- At the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on November 3, 2023, former Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page performs 2023 Inductee Link Wray's rock instrumental cover of "Rumble”. The live performances were held at the Barclays Center in New York.
Billboard: Jimmy Page - one of the best and most influential guitarists of all time - made an unannounced appearance at the Rock Hall to induct the late Link Wray. Page appeared in a video montage about the power chord pioneer, calling Wray his “hero” and saying, “If ever there was a guitarist who deserved this, it was Link Wray.” But when the lights came up and the Led Zeppelin legend was on stage in the flesh, the crowd went crazy. Busting into “Rumble,” Wray’s iconic instrumental, Page looked happy as hell playing a song he’s loved his whole life on a double-necked guitar. And the crowd ate up every moment, with Elton John blowing him a kiss as he took the stage to induct Bernie Taupin.
The only instrumental ever to be banned from the radio. RIP Link Wray, finally getting recognition.
Don't forget The Wray Men.
Why was it banned?
@@Winterstick549 I'm guessing at the time the guitar sound was too dirty & sexy for good "Moral" Americans.
It sounded so mean, it was thought that it could cause a riot!
That fact changed how I hear this song thank you
Any time in the last few days that i've been frustrated or down, I remind myself that, Jimmy Page just played in public for the first time in almost a decade... I was worried when he didn't perform at Jeff Beck's tribute concert, and feared that maybe he felt that he could no longer perform to his own high expectations... the out of the blue, this happens I'm Thrilled beyond words!
the fact that he played his legendary Gibson EDS-1275 double neck... is just icing on the cake!
I don't think the EDS-1275 is necessary for this song (sexy looking guitar, though). BTW, I guess Jimmy was trying to say something to public: "I'm still here"...
@@anta40yeah he said that in 2014 and all he did was sell a few books and remasters of LZ catalogue.
Not saying I’m upset about him not playing, the guy wants to enjoy his senior years
Well this performance you can hear was pretty sloppy while the song is very basic
Exquisite moment in history. Thank you Jimmy. There can’t be anything more satisfying.. following his career.. seeing him live in his prime.. being thrilled by his master genius throughout my life.. seeing him honored finally.. showing up for the world and smiling.. playing us one of his favorite tunes.. honoring Link.. I am so happy. This is masterpiece! So much! So much! 🙏🏻🤘🏻
@@emilxerthe has nerve problems plus he's old.
For someone his age and history of drug abuse,
I don't find him sloppy at all.
I've heard enough sloppy players, while I was one myself once.
He isn't sloppy.
If l had to ever hear a cover of Link Rays Rumble this is it. Jimmy's got it. There's a video of Jimmy putting his vinyl copy of Rumble on his personal turn table and playing air guitar along to Link smiling ear to ear. Watching that you know Jimmy loved it. That's why he knocks it out of the park here. His respect and love for Link gets respect right back. What a master.
There’s no one like Jimmy Page…. 💜🙏🏻
Jimmy Page still plays other musicians music 🎶 poorly 😢
There was no one quite like Link Wray either .
The king of strings!!!
No one like Link Wray
Yes, there was, one and only Jeff Beck . Check out his version of this song performing live together with Johny Depp = masterpiece
Jimmy Effin' PAGE...It doesn't matter how old he gets, he will never lose that rock star swagger🎸🎶
My father and I saw Link Wray perform at a small club in Buffalo called Mohawk Place in February 2003. He shredded for two hours, harder than some people who were 1/3 his age at the time (almost 75). It was an honor to see him play.
My wife is links granddaughter
Short, loud and raw...that was the simplistic beauty of this song. Without a spoken word, it influenced a whole generation of guitar players that got its message. Who better to play the tribute to Link Wray than Jimmy Page! Awesome...just freakin' awesome. Rumble man....
🎵🔥🤘🏼😎
Bro, you said it all, excellent comment.✌️🎸
Agreed!
Rumble was indeed raw! Link with the shades and black leather, that was the thing in the day. Stairway to Rumble!
O F* yeah! That was totally bad ass. the swagger, the guitar tone, the confidence, the presence. Go Jimmy! Better than ever!
Better than ever? Lol
@@mudcast whats your problem?
@@Dean-qt3rp No problem, just stating the obvious. I love Jimmy, but let’s be real guys.
The two jimy the Best
If Jimmy was a virtuoso, the world may never have known his name. What some people call "sloppiness", the guitar community in general acknowledges as un-duplicateable. Pick your faviorite virtuoso guitarist and even he'll say he can't do it.@@mudcast
Congratulations Link Ray on being inducted into the 2024 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Jimmy Page is the GOAT 🎸❤
ABOUT MOTHERFUCKING TIME!!
ABSOLUTELY HE IS !! LOL HE THREW DOWN ,ALONG WITH THE BASE PLAYER AND DRUMMS AND OTHER GUITAR PLAYER !!! PRRFECTION
Incredible honor to Link from Page. The use of the classical Bass and it's musician is classy . Same for the drummer.
Who's the Drummer?
Wow a master guitar player I actually seen jimmy page twice with Led Zeppelin he’s simply the best.
Page played Rumble often as a teenager and it's obvious the song was very influential for his future playing style in The Yardbirds and Led Zeppelin. A full circle moment for the amazing Mr. Page.
I think Immigrant song has a tribute to Rumble in it - The A to the E with the Tremolo effect
@@redfrozenseven he said so in interviews, you are right
Aside from the amazing sound of this cover by Jimmy, it's nostalgic to see him performing on stage alot like his days back in the 1970s with Zep. It may be a 1/2 Century later, but this legend lives on.
An entire generation listened to your every chord !
Multiple generations. Multiple.
I saw Link Wray live !!! Seeing Jimmy do this is special respect 🙏 🫡 👏 🙌
The legend performing a legendary song from another legend.
Such a privilege to be alive when Jimmy Page is a guitar 🎸 god still!
A fantastic job, Mr. page!! Thanks for your great guitarmanship!!! Hopefully that will make more folks aware of the great Link Wray.
You see a lot of rock musicians and rock bands with the audience are yelling and screaming which is normal. I have seen Led Zeppelin videos and this included. The audience is dead quiet as they are completely mesmerized by the talent and simply left speechless! No other band has done this. I think everyone wanted more!
@@bits362 I feel sorry for the people that have been brainwashed by commercialised music. The more skillful the guitarist/s, the smaller the audience. This was more dynamic and exciting-sounding in the stadium. It sounded monstrous.
Who was on bass and drums?
The internet says it was "drummer Anton Fig and bassist Tim Givens "@@alanrogs3990
@@alanrogs3990 bass Tim Givens and drums Anton Fig
@@zydeco2378 I thought it looked like Anton Fig. Thanks
I was there and I agree. This is a soundboard recording and isn't as powerful as what came out of his amp
Jimmy Page playing his favourite song by his favourite guitar player, which was banned from Radio, and he is playing it Rock and Roll HOF, doesn't get any better than this
One of Jimmy's favorites. I'm sure he was ecstatic to perform it and pay homage to Link.
Jimmy, within a minute you were completely back and firing on all cylinders. We miss your greatness, alot, on the stage. But your music, a lifes dedication, for us to enjoy, is the most generous of gifts. You enlightened us all.
Good to see jimmy still playing.
I bow my head in reverence. Whoo,,what a moment!
Page still got it! I love it so.
That was Very special for everyone to see Pagey again ..... ..Thanks Jimmy !
Pagey really?
No one in the history of planet Earth will ever look this fucking good at 79! 🥺Zeppelin is forever! 🐐🤘🔥
@@bits362 lmao man i think keef’s secret is cigarettes booze and a whole lotta guitar! 😎🤘🐐🤣
A true legend...Mr. Jimmy Page! He's still playing and rocking as good or better at 79!
yeh for 5 minutes big deal
So cool he had fun playing this song from one of his early influences, one that shaped his sound.
excellent! and about time! I remember when I seen " It Might Get Loud" in minneapolis in some Uptown theater( lagoon maybe)..and it was quite the treat! Jimmy showed off his huge record collection ,.and than took out Link Wray ,.. laid the vinyl down and proceeded to play air guitar too the Rumble! righteous!
My 5-year-old Son and I listened to this composition about 10 times and were amazed at how skillfully Jimmy Page played the Rumble! Wonder if this is the same guitar that played at the Earls Court concert in 1975!?
its a replica of the doubleneck, thats why it seems new
It was a bit sloppy from Jimmy. Wray played standard 6 string Strat and I think Jimmy’s 12 stringer was not necessary. He kinda struggled…especially with slide part. Overall, Jimmy’s still cool! :) And many thanks to him for paying homage to fantastic Link Wray ❤
@@BM-ub9gh I first heard "Rumble" around 2000 or so, in a version with harmonica "Rumble 68". When I found out that the composition was written in '58, I was amazed that music could sound so cool back then. Link is a genius who was ahead of time.
@@nicalter Are you sure?
Link Wray played a Les Paul gold top through a Premier 71 amp
Best Performance of the night Period.☝️🍁
Zep legend on stage. Incredible!
The hypnotizing magical sway of Pagey 🙏🔥🔥 The One and Only
The One and Only!!!!!
Living legend performing another legends work.
Loving the stand up bass. Excellent tribute!
Wonderful tribute to the master Link Wray , thanks jimmy what you did on a classic 12 string, the chief played on a six string 🎸🎸🎸🎸
It’s about time Link Wray got his due! Jimmy Page playing Rumble is frkn epic. Link Wray will always be one of my fav guitarists. Own many of his LPs.
Excellent clarity and sound. Totally Love the studdered echo !!!
We All Love You Jimmy

Thank you! ❤ 🎸
Your favorite guitar players favorite guitar player......Link Wray baby...
❤❤ Great Player on that 🎸 he has not lost it. 👏🏻 Thanks for sharing.
I was there! Best kept secret 🤐. When he came out we all lost it ‼️
Hope to see this lineup go on tour.
Jimmy Page will always be a guitar legend. I'm glad to see that he is still out there performing.
He is legend of out of tune playing lol. Dude spend 60 years with guitar and still can not play a simple riff
Yeah thats something I suppose
@@bloodromance4776 More of a show off tan a guitar master. Ok I do admit that the song remains the same movie was great though. But there are plenty of other guitarists out there that make Page look likea beginner. Even back when he was at his peak. Incredible guitarists kept in the closet by the music industry..... Here are three for starters....ua-cam.com/video/oGbLEco2Ezc/v-deo.htmlsi=BidkPGmivn7Y0TIR
Seriously, how many more times am l going to play this over and over !
the lip the arm move he just has the best guitar swag. even at this age he still has it
One guitar giant, Link Wray, honoured by another, Jimmy Page. This was fantastic and in the case of Link Wray decades overdue.
The song is already closer to the Century mark than some decades ago since it was originally recorded, and it's also older than most people have been on this Earth or in that crowd before Jimmy. Time puts a hell of a perspective on how pathetic the rnr hall of fame really is to place a snob nose against the most influential song and guitarist(s) in rock history for 3/4 of a Century.
Very Cool 👍👌🎸😊
Absolutely loved seeing this on my TV.... as soon the chords started, I expected to see Jimmy up on that stage. Zero disappointment.
Great job Jimmy on Link Wray's "Rumble!". 👍❤ One of your true heroes.
Definitely the GOAT. I was graced with seeing him in 84 with the firm in Cincinnati and he busted out the bow and destroyed dazed and confused. Much love to a master of the instrument.
I’m 60 I’ve owned a guitars on and off for 50 years never had the patience to play. This lifts me above the clouds.
What a version!
Jimmy Page, playing that double neck icon, being fearless and perfect, and being 79 Yrs. old and cooler then anyone there.
I saw Led Zeppelin twice 1 time at Kaiser’s Stadium in San Francisco in 1973 and Oakland Stadium in 1977 Jimmy Page was amazing
God bless you....I could only wish to see this legend at his prime. I'm just lucky to have seen him years later. Peace
The audio of the great guitarist is wonderful, seeing him play with the same energy and passion is exciting, what a great performance in honor of one of his heroes . 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏😍😍😍
Mr. James Patrick Page 🎸 ⚡️ 🔥 💪 👊 😎
Unbelievable!!! I remember seeing Jimmy Page and Led Zepplin in the late 60’s in Denver,CO. Jimmy Page has not lost his amazing ability to play the guitar! WOW!!!
Hell yes! Still the best and my favorite guitarist of all time.
I love this perfomance so much. Cool stuff.
Like a wizard casting a spell. I remember him jamming to this song in the It Might Get Loud documentary
The best video I've seen in many years!!!
R.I.P., Link.......you and the Wraymen made ear splitting volume and distortion cool for all of us.........turn it up to "11" !
good lord, wasn't expecting to see this tonight! I had no idea jimmy had been on stage again. Wow!
feel the hush over the crowd
Very Great !!!! Link Wray his Influence !
Look at his smile, he's so tickled to play Rumble! 😂 Link Wray RIP.
That tone ❤
Pagey looks and sounds great; as usual.
That bass line.
YESSSSS
Menacing
A true Rock Star 🎸🪨⭐
Time for a Led Zeppelin Reunion.
Plant knows that he can’t sing a full Zeppelin show anymore and unlike some other old singers he doesn’t want to embarrass himself and cheat the audience.
So much Class = Jimmy Page
For me Jimmy Page will always be the number 1 guitarist 🤘🏼
Good to see him perform
Simply bad ass!!
He motions to the guy at the stage side to turn up his tremolo effect. Those are the things musicians notice.
Pure Gold!
Tom Morello was so excited. Just like a kid watching his hero. Brilliant stuff.
WoW Jimmy Playing the legendary Link Wray instrumental! Link would have been so happy. RIP Link Wray! We miss you. "Cool-ness" has not been the same without you.
Link Wray!!!!!! ✝️
I was so emotional I couldn't say anything... I just cried 😊
Jimmy's trademark double neck Gibson is legendary and Anything that he plays on it is legendary
Well I didn't think this old chap would do live performances for a good long while maybe not ever again but wow, what a way to crawl outta the woodwork! Thank you JP this is absolutely wonderful though it may be a bit hard to hear over the sound of how awesome Link Wray is! Oh you are simply the best JP, thanks again! ❤
The King😊🎉
Loved as a kid when it came out. Found it again about a decade ago.
JIMMY PAGE has always been a fantastic guitar 🎸 player and paying tribute to his guitar hero LINK WRAY and is that ANTON FIG on drums, the guy who use to play drums for PAUL SHAFFER and the LETTERMAN show? bless him.
Anton Fig was a member of Link Wrays Wildcats, so he was the natural choice.
THATS THE LATE GREAT LINK WRAY !! AS H8D DAUGHTER SAT IN THE AWDIANCE SAYING HER MOUTHING ,HER WORDS !!!THANK YOU JIMMY )
Link Wray was way ahead of his time facts. Jimmy Page killing it
Jimmy Page is Awesome..talented and best guartist of time...Rock & Roll❤
I love the star-struck reactions from Tom Morello and Peter Frampton. To see Hall-of-Famers light up like school kids shows you the power of music, and especially *live* music. How could you *not* be overcome to see Pagey up on stage with his double-neck, ripping into such a legendary number?
Still can’t believe I witnessed this
Never thought that I should hear “Rumble” played on a 12-string. It did, however, worked out fine.
About bloody time that Link Wray got his recognition. It might get loud. 🎸
Cause it's not real. Ain't no way he got that tone on a twelve string. It would be way too muddy with the distortion. Alot more lipsync happens than anyone would ever believe.
@@bradtymetzler7453 He's light on distortion though, plus it's easy to tell that it's Page playing a 12-string.
The King of Strings!!!
When Jimmy Page hits it at 1:03, damn. Just...mesmerizing.
Yeah man
Jimmy is just effing incredible...period
Whoo Tim!!!!!❤❤🎉❤🎉🎉
