- Bonobos, our primate cousins, are an endangered species, live in female-dominated groups and would rather make love than war. In 2015, Anderson Cooper visited a sanctuary in the Democratic Republic of Congo that's caring for these great apes, which are being hunted to extinction.

For that one female, who was in captivity so long and then now is the matriarch, what an accomplishment for both human and bonobo. It makes my heart happy that she is happy and free.

I much prefer bonobos to regular chimpanzees. Bonobos were once called “pygmy chimpanzees”, but I’m glad the name was changed so that they may be better understood and protected.

Regular Chimpanzees? Bonobos aren't irregular chimps, they're their own, completely different species.

The story behind this wonderful place is amazing and also heartbreaking. If you've never read about it, you'd never understand. These bonobos as well as other primates are so much like us, it's amazing.
Not even near to human they are pure animals don't be lied to, there meat taste like buffalo meat and they are expansive to buy

We aren’t just closely related to Great apes, we are one of them, literally. You remember learning in school about domain, kingdom, phylum, class, exedra? Humans are classified in the family hominidae, also known as the Great apes. So we are one of the Great apes. Chimpanzees and bonobos are MORE closely related to us than they are to gorillas and orangutans. And gorillas are closer related to us than they are to orangutans.

Correct. Orangutans split off the clade long before the split between us and the other apes. They also migrated to Asia, which would explain much in terms of geographical evolution
@@jeffnaslund They didn’t split from us before the splits(plural) between us and all of the other apes. We first split from common ancestors with gibbons as well as some extinct groups of apes. Then we split from orangutans, and then gorillas, and then chimpanzees and bonobos which both split from each other after splitting from us.

It was stunning to watch the adults. It's easy to feel like you are looking back in time, at proto-humans. Living history! If I were 30 years younger I'd be on the next plane over there to volunteer. I could love on those babies for the rest of my life. Now I have fibro and chronic fatigue, but at least I can enjoy them from the comfort of my bed. Thank you for filming this!

Ever since I learned about bonobos and their er... loving culture and personalities when I was a child, they became my favorite animal, besides cats that is, and I have written fantasy stories based on them, as to how we and our world would be like if we humans would have been more like bonobos than like chimps.

I wish they would not disclose such specifics about their location. People will try to find them and hunt them down.
I think freedom is a beautiful thing for those animals.
I like to think that when it comes to humans that dedicate their lives ro rescuing and rehabbing animals that...when they leave this world, they next stop is a very....very....special place.

The human body is an electrochemical system. Electricity is energy and energy never disappears. It only transforms. So, the way I see it is...when our bodies give out and can no longer support this electrochemical system, the energy leaves our body and goes to this "next form". What this form is....again, I'm not sure. But, even Peter Pan said...."To die would be a great adventure." I believe their is some truth to that. It will be an adventure.

Bonobos are closer to us than Chimpanzees. Even down to their facial expressions and personalities.
No. 4 million years ago is the era of Australopithecus Anamensis/Afarensis. They had a different skull structure and differently organized slightly larger brain already, they also were as fully bipedal as we are, just slightly differently. They also had evolved the "Baseball Pitcher's" shoulder that enables Humans to throw Baseball sized objects, especially rocks, very hard, probably the first Hominin projectile weapon capability. Thus, our ancestors were more dangerous than these Bonobos.
We are still learning about animals to this day. I dont think there will ever be a time when we know too much.

They have bonobos at the San Diego Zoo, which is an amazing place, BTW. All zoos should be like that one. The male banged on the grass to chase the people off who were watching while the females took a nap. Obviously a very intelligent animal.
Bonobos live in an area of abundant resources, with few predators. This makes aggression less important fort survival and cooperation more important. If chimps ever invaded their territory, I'm afraid they wouldn't survive.

Ants form a queue. Ants, Termites, Honey Bees, Fish and Birds of the same species in migrations work together in a disciplined manner. Humans have had wars since time immemorial.
The leader ape is Koba's good ending if there was one.
Living beings are in an eternal process of transformation, it is the environment that shapes the living being
