Trevor- You are a wonderful fly-tier. However, this fly, For the Most Part, is just really COMPLEX!
If you want to crank out 10 or 20 dozen of these flies... Great. Hope to see you on the water.

Clayton Botkin a good way to occupy your time in the off season, with a cold beer and warm wood stove!

I have been tying these directly onto a size 2 and size 4 salmon hook no trailer and it has been working fairly well I miss a few now and then but for the most part it kills then

where do you buy your fly tying materials from? amazon? I live in Kodiak Alaska and we have a very limited selection here.

Hey guys, first off, I just want to say that this is an awesome fly and thank you for sharing it! But, I'm confused about how the hook is attached to the fly... I didn't see a loop tied in the body of the fly as like for a standard intruder fly is to attach a hook. At the end of the video, it says "leader slides through OPST junction tubing (after a small mono loop) to OPST swing hook". I don't understand that, could someone please explain or perhaps show a video of the rigging? I have a hard time believing the junction tubing is strong enough to hold the hook to the shank... Does your leader slide through the shank eye first, then through the tubing, to the hook? Please explain, I don't understand.

+OPSkagit Hello, I'm new to using shank flies and still don't understand how you attach a hook using this mono loop and junction tubing to the back. I'm using to a trailing wire being incorporated into the fly. I also can't find anything on google. Can you create a video showing us how to attach the mono loop onto the rear eye of the shank? Thanks

+OPSkagit Thank you! That makes more sence now... But, I've never heard of rigging like that before, where the line runs outside and along the side of the fly with the line running through the hooks eye and the small mono loop at the end of the fly shank, with junction tubing to the hook... Wouldn't the hooks connection to the fly be more solid if it's actually tied on to the shank of the fly with a wire loop like an intruder fly is, and use "intruder wire" to connect the hook to the shank with the fly tied over it? Silver salmon have some pretty sharp teeth! I would imagine that your mono leader (tippet) running outside on the side of the fly would get "hammered" and freyed after the first fish?!?! Just a suggestion, but wouldn't tying this fly like a standard "intruder" work better, performance and ease of rigging wise? Thanks for the pattern idea, but I think I'll take the "intruder style" route when I tie this fly myself.

Why the trailing hook? Why not just use a regular salmon hook? Can you please explain the advantage? Thank you!

What vice attachment is that? I have a bunch of opst shanks that I have been using and haven't found a attachment that I like to hold them. Most are too bulky or I have had to shove the shank almost an inch in to get a good grip.

Robert macrae This is a prototype OPST tool. I should have mentioned that in the video. We are working on a better one that will be out this summer. It has taken a while to produce but it is going to be awesome.

A very sweet fly. What weight of line would you be needing to run this fly properly ?

Can you explain again how to finish it? I don't understand the explanation in the comments. Can you guys do a small video of the remainder? Thx.

i'll try to make it as simple as possible
step 1: cast fly straight from your side of the river at the far bank
step 2: flick as much of you freshly casted line up stream as you can without lifting the fly out of the water. that is called a mend.
step 3: point the rod tip at where you think the fly is as it "swings" across the river. hang on because when a fish takes it it will take it hard
step 4: let the fly swing until it is straight down stream of you.
step 5: repeat step 1-4 once more, then take two steps down stream (about 4-5 feet) then try again. repeat steps 1-5 until you are either out of sun light or out of river.

Why not just tie this pattern on a tube rather than complicating it with small mono loop in back?
