24 hours ago, I'd have laughed if you said I was gna become addicted to watching someone wrapping string around a wire. But here I am, feasting on crack for my eyes! Thank you Mainely! And I don't even fish lol
I'm beginning my adventure into fly fishing, swinging my first rod this week. Starting with a kit that came with some flies, and decided, I'll not buy a single fly but learn to do this. This is one of the best sessions for understanding concepts quickly, designs and styles. It's got it all and the results are amazing. I imagine it would take me 20 minutes to make a fly that looked like total sht that is done here in 2 minutes, and I understand it~ but so much, rapid fire just enough detail - Outstanding presentation. I've watched a ton of flying tying vids which I had to do to learn the language, making this an amazing treat. Also inspirational in how quickly a beautiful piece can be made. Thank you for the hard work of putting this out here, it's a ton of work to produce something like this before putting a hook in the vice.
#flies Wow, these flies are nothing short of miraculous! I think I have watched everything you have filmed, and the film quality is top notch and now I know what I'll be doing in my retirement years, I'll be 70 next year and this is the perfect activity to help me stay in my creative side. So Thank You!!!!
1:47 as a kid in the 1970s i got lessons from a 67 year old man how to tie these i remember him using this style fly and peacock feathers as well as other natural materials and man made stuff. It was his hobby, if he wasn't fishing he was making Flys.
This was a great beginners kit for a great price. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxKRURvLsu9Vvyw7gIuvt8FsApoQNCdz-1 Its given us a huge variety to test out and see what works well and what we like to use. Majority of the flies have stayed together well, but some of the rainbow warriors did unravel after catching a few blue gill. All in all, this was a great kit and are so happy with the purchase and value for money.
I'm brand new at fly tying. I've watched COUNTLESS videos on them. I must say, by far, yours is the most informative that I've seen yet. Now I just need to start trying to tie them. LOL Thank you.
My 26yo autistic son LOVES watching your vids, and sends me links to your vids often! He's never tied flies, but is fascinated by fly tying. My 12yo autistic son has tried tying, and hopefully he'll get back to it again some day soon.
I wanna make a couple for my boyfriend, and have (sub)zero background in fishing. This looks 1)beautifully crafted, and 2)like the flies are about to enter RuPaul's Drag Race 🤭. I know I must not "crowd" the body because it will impede proper biting, and that the head must be tightly secured too. After that, my imagination (plus your vids) is the sky! Thanks for posting :D
I totally enjoyed watching the variety of flies made in the 'Top 25'! I returned to New England this summer and enjoyed lots of fly fishing. (I live in Southwest Florida and and I tie Flys for that area.) When I return to FL I will surely be tying patterns I will use next spring when I return to New England next Spring! Thanks!
I've never done this and I've never watched anybody do it.. Something tells me this guy makes this look really easy. And I'm willing to bet that it isn't as easy as he is making it look.
I'm new to all this and have only been tying for a month and a week maybe. If you see me saying I'm using a Velcro brush to give my hair a buggy look it's cause I'm going bald....... I already have a pretty decent parachute and have already attempted a twin parachute and a size 12 dry fly hook and so far that's my biggest challenge, its actually completing this. There looks to be a few on here I must try though. You were one of my first 3 I subscribed to for tying and i did so based on your presentation. Keep it up cause I really enjoy your channel and need more of your podcast
Great to hear you are finding them useful! Don’t worry more content across all the channels will be coming soon. I’m at a very busy point in my life right now, but that ends next Thursday (my PhD defense date) after that I’ll be doing this full time. Good luck with the tying, sounds like you are off to a great start!
@@MainelyFlies I'm 43 at the end of Aug so I have had many years of practicing my patience in doing things. I'm wanting to try feather wings when you pull them tie them and split them.
Its really challenging getting the buck to stand still wile you trim his tail. And peacocks get really upset when you pluck a fethor. Oh male peacocks you need the pretty colors.
I really enjoy your videos but for some reason I can’t get the mat’l lists to come up ☹️you should publish a small paper back book of all your patterns this should sell well
I may do that one day but will be in the works for quite a while longer. These videos I just pull from all my individual videos. There you’ll find the materials list for most. This is something that when rushed I’m not the best at adding but am making an effort to add them to all the new ones I’m doing.
I like to use Burger King gift cards for winter time rainbow trout. everyone knows how opportunistic these fish are and they'll leap at any chance for an easy meal. jokes on them though, there's no money left on the cards. so I'll just laugh and laugh as I continually botch hooksets.
I've been watching too many of your videos. Caught myself using Velcro on a stick to give what little hair I have a nice buggy look.
🤣
Nice that will do the job, or even a stiff toothbrush
I have a wooden spoon from an ice cream cup and I glued some velcro to it. I also have a Loon wire dubbing brush, but I usually use the velcro stick.
I have an old toothbrush I found in my backpack
😂hilarious!

Very nice tying Learned something new and remembered something old that I forgot
That vinyl stone is a work of art. #flies
Tied the Brook trout and it worked today when all else failed.
I had to substitute the bucktail for deer hair as it was all I had at hand.
Top man💪
I would love one of these flys😊
Jay, I hope you don't mind, I wrapped a ball of red/brown chenille to the fly head, and once wet worked well. Thank you for everything you do! Rick
My best fish in catching fly overall. Flies are super, Thanx Jay.

Awesome looking fly
Its really challenging getting the buck to stand still wile you trim his tail. And peacocks get really upset when you pluck a fethor. Oh male peacocks you need the pretty colors.
I use hot glue and put some feathers or lint fuzz and that works fine.
Awesome video.
Great, I am 72, retired, and been flytying since 10 yo. A great, great, pastime.
This video and your others have been very helpful. #flies
I am commenting, „ Hashtag, flies,“ just as you said. 😂
