Thanks! I got my own idea to add water into a bottle of spray scent to make it last longer, so today I was inspired to look up a DIY to make up my own spray, and there you are .with exactly what I was looking for. I like these kind of sprays so I don't contribute to our ozone issues, and I don't have to go broke doing it.🍀🍁🌹
I am a board-certified nurse, and I just want everyone to know, that it is very dangerous to put essential oils on your baby, for they can get rashes or become allergic. You want to keep all essential oils away from them.
Will the oils separate in the water? I realize the baking soda kind of helps this but it separates each time it sits correct? Would isopropyl alcohol make this solution better? I'm curious as I've never tried this yet and like to hear the pros and cons of the additives used. Thanks, great video!
Tnks a lot dear.... But I have question... Pls what's the second and third name of the fragrance u used? Did u use distilled water for it? Can I spray in all rooms? Can I clean with it?
I have a go-to essential oil spray that I use all the time, (The recipe I use is on my channel 😅) but your “spring breeze” blend is definitely giving me inspiration to venture outside of my comfort zone next time. Thanks for sharing!
how long can you keep this spray? does it have an expiration? i read in some comments that you said we can just mix the oil with water? is that right? what is the importance of the baking soda?
Can't wait to give this a try, thank you! If I make a bigger batch will the scent last in the bottle? Edited to say: I tried the spring breeze. I love that it's light and clean.
Great video, I really enjoyed it. I was wondering if it needed to be essential oil or could I use fragrance oil? Also I was wondering did it need to be distilled water or any water is fine? please advise. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much! I prefer essential oils because fragrance oils have added ingredients that can be harmful. Distilled water is best as it will have a longer shelf life. :)
I'm wanting to make an insect repellent to spray around doors with essential oils. I want it to last a few days at least so I'm assuming a carrier oil is necessary as opposed to water. Question is, what type of carrier oil would you recommend that will hold the scent, I was thinking maybe mineral oil?
Great video! I have a question since this would be considered a aqueous formulation do you need to add an antioxidant to it due to the essential oils or maybe an preservative because of the water? Thanks
I just tried with the baking soda and it clogged mine, however it could of been because of the type of nozzle or amount of baking. either way for now i'm deciding to leave out baking soda
Good morning! Would this smell the same if I poured this mixture into my diffuser instead of using a spray bottle? If so, should I leave out the baking soda for the diffuser? Thank you so much in advance.
Thanks so much for a great video, i love all your diys and i follow your website and facebook group. How would the amounts differ if im using a big spray bottle? Like 300ml one How many spoons of baking soda and how many drops of essential oil
It won't really work. You'll need to add an emulsifier (Polysorbate 80) and alcohol (Preferably Perfumer's Grade alcohol). You can easily find those online, and it'll change this spray from an inefficient spray (always have to shake it and still won't mix properly, and doesn't smell except if you bury your face in whatever you spray on), to an actual scent spray.
This method here, as simple as it is, just doesn't really work the way you think it would, for two main reasons. One - Water and oil DONT MIX. Even if you vigorously mix it every 5 seconds (already a red flag for inefficiency). Two - Essential oils scent doesn't go very far. When you spray this, you'll only smell it for 5 seconds as you spray it, and that's it. You'd have to bury your face in whatever surface you're spraying it on to smell it. It really does suck that this method here is probably the most popular one on UA-cam, a huge misinformation. People make it, and then wonder why it doens't work, then just go on to buy commercial sprays which actually work. That's what happened to me until I researched more thoroughly. Two ingredients are missing in this that seperate this spray from something that works to something that doesn't work. Alcohol - spreads in the room when you spray and carries the scent with it (Best to use Perfumer's Alcohol, as it's not as toxic and smelly as rubbing alcohol, and makes for a clear liquid) Polysorbate 80 - Emulsifies the oils and the water (water in the alcohol or the water you add). You add those, and you'll have a proper spray scent. Still very much DIY. At the end of the day, you can just drop a few essential oil drops in hidden areas in your house and that's fine. The question is not how to make a scent spray, it's how to make an actual useful one.
I have had some spray for awhile now and it has not messed up my sprayer but you can definitely make it without the baking soda just be sure to shake well before use.
Hi. Thanks for the tip. I have a problem though. It leaves white drops on my walls and mirrors. I thought I gave it quite a shake but still...Did you ever have that problem?
I made this and it did not work unfortunately :( The scent dissipated immediately and just made everything wet. I even tried spraying my pillow, and the scent only lingered for a few seconds.
1 tsp Baking soda . 20 drops Essential oil . Mash em . Add Water . 🥰

Most sprays these days don't effect our ozone, in the US I haven't seen one that does in years
Thank you I have never made the spray with baking soda but I’m trying it now🥰🙏🏽🥰
WOW! I Didn’t realize how super simple this is! Thank you!😄
Laura I’m not sure what you did differently on this video but the audio is much better :) and I love your content as always
I got a new mic! Thank you!!!
Thanks so much for teaching us easy to make and understand diy projects. I am much calmer and happier using batural ingredients.

Awesome! Thank you!
Hi, how long is the shelf life for this mixture? Thank you.
Use distilled water
Thank you!! I love your energy & how receptive you are to subscribers.
Thank you so much!
How long does the smell last? And how long can I keep it in the bottle?
Thanks.
Thank for changing my family’s life. I love this channel.
Thank you so much!!
I would use distilled water and alcohol to keep micro organisms away
Do you use 91 percent alcohol? And than add the fragrances? fill it to the top with distilled water?
Appreciate you. Great presentation. May i ask Whats the shelf life for this wonderful blend... Tya Malaysia
how long does this recipe last before mold forms? Thanks!
What a great combo. It smells sooo good!! 😊
Glad you liked it!
Thank you for this short and sweet video
Can baking soda act as a preservative for an Herbal spray? Please, I need to know. Thanks.
Thank you, i'm indonesia i'm happy your video. Good job
If im making a 20 oz bottle, I assume I would add more oil, but do I need to add more baking soda so its not so diluted? Thank you

The baking soda helps, I also shake it before each use.
Could you also add a polysorbate 20 or 80 so it mixes better or does the baking soda prevent that?
Tnks a lot dear.... But I have question... Pls what's the second and third name of the fragrance u used? Did u use distilled water for it? Can I spray in all rooms? Can I clean with it?
Very helpful! Niceely explained and straight to the point.
Hi Laura, thanks for the great content. Is there are way to incorporate alcohol to allow the mist to stay for longer?>

how long can you keep this spray? does it have an expiration? i read in some comments that you said we can just mix the oil with water? is that right? what is the importance of the baking soda?
It is good for 6 months. The baking soda helps to keep the oils incorporated. You can leave it out and give it a good shake before each use.
@@ouroilyhouseIn another comment, you told the person one month. Now you're saying 6 months. Which one is it really?
So even with all that water you don't need preservative? Can't mold grow? Then it's sprayed and people can breathe in it in? Thank you
Great video thank you. Can i use like prefume oils from Ebay?
Thank you so so much 🙌❤😇🙏❣🙌❤😇🙏❣

I haven't added anything else in and it has always been fine for me.
Okay thanks for replying😊
Hello, thank you. I tried this recipe and it blocked the tube. Is this normal?
I can't wait to try! Do you also have a Christmas Festive oil blend you can recommend? Thanks
I've actually found some recipes for this in your Blog, fantastic!
Great!!!

I just tried with the baking soda and it clogged mine, however it could of been because of the type of nozzle or amount of baking. either way for now i'm deciding to leave out baking soda

do you need baking soda, or can you substitute it with something else?
You don't need it for the recipe, just be sure to shake well before each use!

Hi Laura. Do we have to use amber bottles or clear glass work fine too? Thank you!
Either is fine! I like to use amber because if clear glass is left in direct sunlight it can make the essential oils lose potency.
Love this video,I want to try!!
Wow ❤

How would the amounts differ if im using a big spray bottle?
Like 300ml one
How many spoons of baking soda and how many drops of essential oil
You can double or triple the recipe as needed! I am so glad you are enjoying my DIY's!
Can we also spray out face with that?
Well I hope it works good I'm gonna try it nothing else has worked

It last up to one month. The scent stays strong, even after mixing it.

How many days before it expires?
Can I spray it in linen pillow? Will it clean the linen and remove the bacteria
Just freshen and leave a beautiful scent
@@ouroilyhouse is it OK to Use food vinegar rather then using baking soda.... 🙂
Hello! I have a question.. Why do you use baking soda?
To help the oils and water mix. You can omit it and shake well before each use.
Does the bottle have to be glass? Or can it be plastic
Glass is always best when using essential oils!
Essential oils eat through plastic so glass is best
What name ingredients plsss?
Thx Karen!
💀
I have a Dog, could you tell me if those essentials oils are safe for dogs ( animals)
Thank u
I have a video on this!
Does the baking soda emulsify the oil? I don’t want to creates tiny oil stains on my linens.
Yes, but you can do without!
Can i use rose hydrosol water instead?
yes
Hi I have tryed doing this but for some reason the liquid keeps on changing colour why would it be doing it.
Hmm I don't know why that would happen, are you using essential oils? What color is it turning?
@@ouroilyhouse yes I am using essential oils but for some reason it turning like a beep pinky red colour.
What essential oil u used? I think there's a chance that the eo react with high pH from baking powder.. (?)
Hey, may I ask what’s the purpose of the baking soda
Help it mix together better!
Strange question, but are they supposed to change colour? I made my own and after a few days it turned purple after a few days?
Did you use amber glass bottle?
Can we make with single once?
With single oils? If so, yes!
Does it works with alcohol instead of water? 😬
Yes
Why the baking soda?
Helps to mix the oils in.
For how long can I store this ?
Can u use plastic bottles instead?
I would personally recommend Amber glass spray bottles since essential oils eat through plastic 👍
Is that a tbs or a tsp? Looks like a tbs.
Please could you write the essential oils? I managed to get lemon only!
I have written instructions to all of my recipes on my blog: www.ouroilyhouse.com/diy-5-essential-oil-room-sprays-for-spring/

After spraying in room , for much of time it's last in room ?
Couple hours and then I spritz again or as needed!
@@ouroilyhouse could we use ethanol alcohol as preservative
wait.. why are people using alcohol or witch hazel or isy when this method is so much easier and cheaper? Which method is the best way?
This method here, as simple as it is, just doesn't really work the way you think it would, for two main reasons.

Does it stain?
No essential oils don't stain like vegetable based oils.

You may need a different spray nozzle.
I use is fragrance oil

Hi, This is exporter of fine mist sprayer and lotion pump from China.
Doesn’t the baking soda eventually clog the sprayer?
i was just about to type that! I wonder about that too, because it ALWAYS happens when I add baking soda. I usually just add witch hazel instead.
Witch hazel is a good idea too!
I have had some spray for awhile now and it has not messed up my sprayer but you can definitely make it without the baking soda just be sure to shake well before use.
Thank you for replying. I think I might have added too much the time I made it with the baking soda. I will try it again!
Elizabeth C, thanks. I will use your suggestion and try witch hazel too.
Hi. Thanks for the tip. I have a problem though. It leaves white drops on my walls and mirrors. I thought I gave it quite a shake but still...Did you ever have that problem?
Hi Marie The drops are from backing soda even if is well dissolved when gets dry the soda solidifies. So is better to omit the baking soda .
Why not use citric acid instead of baking soda ? Acts as a preservative too
I made this and it did not work unfortunately :( The scent dissipated immediately and just made everything wet. I even tried spraying my pillow, and the scent only lingered for a few seconds.
Maybe try a higher quality oil and make sure it’s 100% oil. I personally like the brand called Now. It’s quality and affordable.
