He is like the Bob Ross of Barbeque. "You make up your own rules, when you're cooking your own Shepherd's Pie." That looks so delicious, it's unreal. Well done, Chef Tom.
Man, that looks amazing! My pellet smoker is acting up right now, so I've had to use the propane grill, but I know what I'm making when I get the smoker up and running (even if it is after Saint Paddy's). Sadly, the chap who introduced me to your channel passed away a couple days ago, and this was so entirely up his alley. When I make this, it's for you, Alan. You bastard.
Hi ATBBQ! I'd like to throw a suggestion out there. A smokey Salisbury steak recipe with scalloped potatoes would be awesome! Thanks for all the great vids!
Looks absolutely out of this world delicious. I would add a little ground bay leaf to my shepherd's pie filling, and throw some Parmesan on top, but everyone has their own way. That potato ricer is a nice little gadget. Wouldn't mind having one of those in the kitchen.
I love shepherds pie. I really do. Ever since I was a kid and my dad made it and the potato used to get crusty and bits of it burnt on the tips but when I decided to use mashed cauliflower instead of potato and still add cheddar and Parmesan cheese it took the dish to stratospheric levels. INCREDIBLE. I'll never use potato again in this dish. I sometimes throw some peas and carrot into the mince with a splashing of Worcestershire sauce. Thats all it takes. The mash I make is with full cream milk and butter
Made this today. Went with beef only as my wife is not a fan of lamb. Simply the best Shepherd's Pie (ok fine Cottage Pie, you know what I mean) any of my family have eaten. I followed the recipe very closely but also added I cup of frozen corn for texture and colour. I went with the Le Crueset braiser pan instead of my standard cast iron skillet. Glad I did as the Le Crueset was the perfect size. My standard size cast iron skillet would have been too small to handle this. Love the the videos. Keep them coming. Happy St. Patty's Day to all!!
Literally everything you make looks amazing. I thought my shepherd's pie turned out amazing last year. After watching this I'm stepping up my game for saint Patrick's day this year. Thanks for the inspiration. Love the positivity and then end of all your videos too
I made this and can attest it is an AWESOME recipe and like the chef says you can customize the recipe to your liking. In my pie I added a TBS of Worcestershire sauce to the gravy and also put a little beef broth and Guinness in the foil when I wrapped the meat. My whole family enjoyed this. Thanks chef Tom!
Hi chef ... first i´d like to thank you ´cause i learned a lot from you videos ... i´m from Mexico and i can´t find anywhere any of the Yoder Smokers so i made your recipes on my weber but the results went really great, greetings from Mexico City
This guy is a master!! I love watching his videos. Great job Chef! I'd LOVE to see you try out some north Indian mughlai/Punjabi tandoori cuisines someday with your smoking and barbecuing mastery. Please try it out. Thank you!!
Epic Shepherd's Pie Tom! Just awesome. Funny enough I have mashed potatoes leftover from Sunday dinner and was planning on making a Shepard's pie this week.
You know, growing up in North Dakota in the 1950's and early 1960's everybody made Shepherd's Pie but it was always with hamburger! I was in my 60's when I learned it was to be made with lamb and the Brits call both lamb and sheep mutton. Made it a couple of years ago and my friend Simon, from Wales was there. He didn't believe me when I told him it was the first time. Thanks UA-cam; I've learned a lot!
recipe suggestion: Smoke roasted butternut squash and mushroom risotto. Paired with a smoked sausage or kielbasa. Would love to see your take. Thanks for all the great creations.
That's a blue collar meal right there. According to my 100 yr old grandmother, she says most of the stuff we ate was leftover or traded with neighbors who had veggies or poultry you didn't have for bread or even beef, milk from the cow or several different things. Good layout you have there! Would be nice to afford all them fancy cookin deals you got there! Like the eatn part as well. Gonna keep watchin the videos Thanks for sharin!
Hey Chef Tom. I love your videos and being a Firehouse chef for much of my 32 year career, I know a real chef when I see one, not just another backyard BBQ pit guy. I'm curious if you're going to smoke a Corned Beef Brisket this year. I saw a recipe on the Traeger channel, but I was hoping to have you walk us through a smoked, then beer roasted brisket. I believe that I need to smoke it for about 2-3 hours first. Not wanting to brine it myself so I bought pre brined briskets. Thank you.
Love your videos chief, but just to correct you, it's St Paddy's day* it is a pet peeve of us Irish when people say St Patty', other than that keep up the good work!!
I say shepherds pie anyway but I think cottage pie is the same made with beef. Shepherds uses lamb. Not that it really matters I’m not an English farmer
Irish comfort food? Shepherd's/Cottage pie is a very common dish cooked across the British Isles. Typically they are cooked using minced (ground) lamb or beef for shepherd's/cottage pie respectively. Traditionally they are simple dishes but I would not call them peasant food. I would call them family food and they are especially good during winter months where traditionally the choice of veg was limited. I live in Wales, a part of the UK that is known for high quality lamb and I grind lamb shoulder at home to make Shepherd's pie. I make my mash from Maris Piper Potatoes and pipe this on to the meat base before baking in the oven. I did enjoy watching your take on Shepherd's pie and it looked very good. I set you a challenge of cooking a traditional Welsh Cawl on one of your grills! I'll be even more impressed if you can pronounce Cawl correctly (hint it is a Welsh language word).

Am making this recipe for Christmas eve dinner. I have made it 3 other times and it works well with just brisket too. Highly recommended.

That was the most graceful "oh shit that was really hot and I burned my mouth real bad" save ever lol
Got back from Ireland about two weeks ago and I gotta say...this would blow their minds lol. Good stuff, sir.

Again a very nice recipe and the videos on this channel are getting better and better 👍👍👍
So many great ideas here. Blend lamb and beef, chop instead of grind... Absolutely amazing. Will be making this very soon.

Who disliked this? How could you not like this? It pains me to admit this but this looks much better than anything I've had in the UK
This proves that anything can be cooked on a smoker. I never had shepherd pie. This looks so good.
Wow, that is *serious* comfort food!
I made it tonight for an army of people! Amazing!! And the lamb was a fantastic addition
This is one of your best cooks, bro! I'm adding this to my family's Sunday dinner rotation. Thanks so much!
Tom you killed it my friend. That's fantastic!
thanks Chef Tom, I have some new goals this spring. Snow drift on the BBQs almost melted.
This guy is a master!! I love watching his videos. Great job Chef! I'd LOVE to see you try out some north Indian mughlai/Punjabi tandoori cuisines someday with your smoking and barbecuing mastery. Please try it out. Thank you!!
This is going on My Kamado Joe tonight; I am super excited; My excitement level is at 9000 :-D
Epic Shepherd's Pie Tom! Just awesome. Funny enough I have mashed potatoes leftover from Sunday dinner and was planning on making a Shepard's pie this week.

UA-cam is a treasure trove of generally useful information! Thanks for watching!
Great recipe! I am definitely going to try this.
I'm sitting here with a brisket in the smoker and suddenly looking forward to colder weather so I can make this.
Thanks Tom for rocking the 32

May not be traditional Shepard's Pie but I promise you that mess is on point. I'd order it in a heartbeat.
Oh, man...that looks seriously good!!
Looks like it hits the spot!
Yes!
Love the videos. I would love a video of your take on Salpicon- one of my favorite meals. Thanks!
Great video man! This goes on ‘the’ list.
I love Shepard's pie (Although we tend to more so use minced beef these days, so Cottage) But will have to try this, looks great!
Thanks for watching!
A 6 pack just for a cupful, the sacrifices we make eh 😂😂😂😂
Gotta try this! Looks amazing
Chef Tom loves his cross sections ahah
Outstanding!

Looks awesome! Please let us know who makes the whiskey infused Irish cheddar. That sounds amazing!
Thanks Chef Tom. I tried a Guiness gravy the other day and it was an epic failure. Can’t wait to try yours. Thanks again!

Great ricipe bro. Have you made a meat pie before? Very popular in Australia and there are several versions of it.
Good lookin pi’s chef Tom!
Well, this recipe makes enough for me, but what about the rest of my family?
Anyone know how to turn a grill into a makeshift smoker? I got a webber charcoal.
Lovely!
Allthingsbbq. Quick question, what was the wood chunks used for the smoke? Looks amazing and will be making my own today.
LTLajoie he uses pecan and cherry on every video- so I think he quit saying that lately

Bonjour Tom!!! J'ai tellement faim maintenant!
Any bbq in less than freezing weather?
Perfect
Fkn legend 4 real.... amazing
Thank you!
What do you use for a hot plate?
Good god chef T you got me starving lol
16:51 yeah that'll work
only thing I'd add is some Worcestershire, also why no butter in the mashed potatoes?
he has butter melted with the milk he added.
My gran and thousands of others will be spinning in their graves if they saw this lol That said, it looks bloody lovely as always!
Guinness beef stew in Ireland is a wonderful thing. That said, this looks like a wonderful thing too. Maybe I'll get to go back to Ireland one day!!
That is one hell of a Shepard's Pie. You won't find that at any restaurant.
Bravo!
What hot plate is that?
Is Chef Tom rockin the mullet in this one? 🧐
Chef, I'd call it a Shepherd's-Cottage Pie !!! 😉
Great video. Top of the morning to you.
This is serious shepherd’s pie.
That is well said! Thanks for watching!
I want this guy to be my best friend
Love your videos chief, but just to correct you, it's St Paddy's day* it is a pet peeve of us Irish when people say St Patty', other than that keep up the good work!!
BTW, if you ever get into Dublin, check out The Pig's Ear...best shepards I've ever had :-]
Off course you'll have to buy the whole 6 pack
FYI, the recipe at atbbq.com doesn't tell you when to add the peas, so of course I forgot.
Thank you
What charcoal are you using? those are huge chunks
Looks like the Kamado Joe Big Block
I was wondering what kind it was too
Humble peasant! HAHAH!!
Could you do an Asian Style bbq rib?
I know what I'm making this weekend!
Nice

Where can I find that cheese bro??? Looks awesome! I love your videos!
Suggestions on seasoning your cast iron?
I've heard several different ways, whats your take?
I just clean my cast iron skillet with a scrubbie. I just do not see any logic to letting a layer of crud build up on the inside.
I do rideshare had a guy tell me last year that are Guinness taste different than the UK. He said there's is better jus saying lol
Guinness is notorious for travelling badly. The further away from Dublin you get, the worse it is

Garnish with fresh plucked beard hairs.
I watch garden Ramsey version then always settle on chef Tom's version ...
That's a great compliment! Thanks for watching.
