There is something so funny about turning your back on the birth of a new universe just so you can blast yourself into it faster. Thats the soul of speedrunning right there.
please go and play the game before watching this if it looks interesting to you, if you spoil it now you will rob yourself of one of the best games ever
Did that already, sadly... I watched _NerdCubed Completes_ since, at the time, OW was planned to be a _permanent_ Epic Games Exclusive, with "no plans at all" to release on any other store. ...Naturally, a year or so later, a Steam release was announced. Sigh. Even spoiled, this is a game you _should_ experience on your own, as everyone's journey through the cosmos is their own to experience. Same with other "go in blind" games like Hypnospace Outlaw, even knowing the plot doesn't ruin the fact that you should experience it for yourself _anyway,_ as there's things to find that the playthrough you watched might not have noticed or cared about...
Imagine being the Hearthians chilling at the campfire and seeing your friend 2 seconds after waking up proceeding to jump and launch themselves towards the Sun.
Outer Wilds is my favorite game of all time and PT just blew my freakin' mind with this speedrun! I've never watched a shipless run until now, only other people's first blind playthroughs, so I never understood how people managed it and now that I do, I'm madly impressed! GGs PTMinsker, and thank you Mobius for creating this marvelous masterpiece! Outer Wilds has touched me to my deepest core and changed the way I look at life and death, I cannot recommend it enough!!!
51:05 "I went to get out of my ship, and as I'm jumping out, I hear my coworkers going _'suit, suit, suit!',_ and I jumped out anyway and immediately keeled over..." Shout-out to NerdCubed, whose _shortest loop_ was landing perfectly on Hollow's Lantern and immediately dying... not in the lava, but from forgetting the suit.
Lovely to see the devs here on GDQ, am very excited to watch this! Still hoping to see a MAX% suitless on GDQ someday, even though I know its horribly hard to do live, but it's just such a cool achievement by the community.
33:00 "If you're just really obstinate with your platforming I think you could [get up to the black hole forge] even without scout boosting." Yeah, that was me. Took a few more hours after I did that to figure out the portal situation over on Ash Twin. It was only this video that clued me into using the scout to boost yourself anywhere.
@@mr.cook5 technically not good physics, since you shoot a flying object, and teleport it back stationary, which would require the reverse transfer of momentum to stop the scout (exactly as much as what you recieved when you shot the projectile) and when you shoot the scout into the black hole in the lab, it preserves momentum when coming out of the black hole
YESSS MY FAVE GAME EVER somehow I didnt even notice it was at this gdq until it started playing on the youtube playlist this is like a fun early birthday present for me!!! (it's in 19 days hehe)
[spoiler] One time I was watching Outer Wilds being played by a Twitch streamer going in blind. He found the 3 symbols, said "huh" and walked out just as the end-of-timeloop tune started playing. I hammered in chat "write that down" and he ran back in just in time to get the symbols. (This was before the patch that permanently shows the symbols in the corner of the screen)
I said this on the comments of the VOD of the game's GDQ debut at SGDQ 2021, and I'll say it again. Just the ending of this game got me to tear up, so imagine how the full game made me feel; It's my 2nd favorite game ever made (only beat by Persona 5 Royal) for a reason. Not only that, but I have an immense amount of respect for runners like ptminsker or thestrangepie that have a full mastery of the game's gravity and flight mechanics (Trust me, as someone that took 20 hours-ish to beat this casually, this is not at *all* easy, let alone doing it shipless)
There's something poetic about the entire game having deterministic physics, *_except_* for Quantum things, and that a TAS of Outer Wilds is practically impossible because of it (even Any%, since the "final area" is very Quantum)... (actually iirc, Hollow's Lantern _and_ how much damage% it does to a chunk of Brittle Hollow is _also_ RNG, to ensure the planet breaks differently every run)
@@A_Seizure_Salad It's interesting they said it's the _font_ that does it. I would've figured something like that would be based on the _length_ of the text influencing scroll speed (a lot of games are run in Japanese because the text meaning is denser-per-character thus less text to wait to appear). In comparison, Russian and Polish are rather... _verbose_ languages, so if it were purely a function of "number of characters per line", you'd actually think they would be _slower_ for the Nomai Translator to "decrypt" 🤔 (having it be a built-in "spoiler shield" is a nice benefit, either way)
Well, let me tell you the couch might've gotten it wrong devs or not, since Russian uses cyrillic and Polish does not. We have two options here: 1) They said Polish, but meant Ukrainian which does use cyrillic. слава україне! 2) It is not the font that affects the speed.
@@jussikoutonen1051 The game isn't available in Ukrainian. My theory is since both languages tend to be more verbose, they needed to use the same small font for both, where French/German/Japanese/etc could all use the same font as English. And since the translator shows "gibberish" during the second or so it takes to translate each piece of text, maybe that intermediate text is what makes the difference.

@@WackoMcGoose very, VERY well said
This run was bonkers. I fell asleep in the middle of it last night and am super glad the vods are getting uploaded so quickly
Imagine being the Hearthians chilling at the campfire and seeing your friend 2 seconds after waking up proceeding to jump and launch themselves towards the Sun.
Imagine having a little camp out with the hatchling before their launch, suddenly they wake up and just jump immediately into the fire and die

multiple hours speedrun is not so great for gdq :D
It's insane to me that he landed on Sun Station *shipless* :O
I can always spare a comment for my favorite game. I just finished the dlc. What a beautiful experience. This game is and we are.
Shoutout to Churl for his donation at 19:40 - he's the one who introduced me to this game and I laughed my ass off hearing him donate!

Never seen an island bonk someone before lol
"That's Never Happened Bef... actually no, it happens all the time in this game."
usually only happens while in ship, you can actually get through the current that way
This was a fun watch, thank you for uploading this.
55:36 THERE'S A WAY OUT OF THERE? I SPENT MINUTES BEING CRUSHED BY THE SAND AND THERE'S JUST A GAPING HOLE IN THE WALL???
Whoa, we have got to see that base game + DLC run next yesr!!!
Love this game, love you guys! Seeing some of the devs on here made my day
I love how much the devs are involved in the speed run community
major spoilers for the DLC from ~44:55 to 46:00 in the audio
Thank you! I've finished the base game but not the DLC so that probably saved me.
Thanks!
What a wild run. Awesome.
I wonder how the devs felt when they added the kickback on the scout and made this kind of run possible
probably happy that they implemented good physics

We should knock on wood. Is there any wood?
Um no... You're playing shipless...
45:02 That has to be Mobius Digital. They donated $250 dollars last year too.
Oh my lord, the "close call!" On the timer screen at the bottom When he got island crushed at like 17:25 took me OUT
huh, outer wilds is normally pretty short, what category takes an ho--
"100% base game shipless"
holy shit
Simply amazing.
Honestly I would like to try this. Would give an excuse for playing this amazing game again.
I watched so many long plays and supercuts I never would have considered a speedrun of this game... but its still interesting
Best game ever
Good run very cool
This was so cool

the best game ever made
36:30 Thanks for the idea HAHAHAHA
ope! that island is going to land on top of me!
Any specific reason why game ran in Russian? UPD, oh, for whatever reason is it's the font...
They explain at 10:30, but the translator's speed is based on the language. So it saves time for the game to be set to Russian since it's the fastest.

hooray games
1:18:40 Astral Codec mentioned!
Ooh this is an older version looks like.
You don't need to talk to Hal and you don't need to go to the other side of the construction yard there...
And Gabbro only needs loop 2 to be aware, not 3. You'll get all all 4 logs from him.
This is a MUCH older version! No hand when holding objects, many ship logs are different...
This wasn't from July 2024, was it?
NIce
polish and russian don't even use the same alphabet tho?????
They said they use the same font for the two. I guess it's a font that has both Cyrillic and Latin.
