How we went from Silurian voices like this to the digitized helium versions seen in Warriors of The Deep is a mystery to me.
The same reason the Silurians third eye just flashed a la the Daleks in Warriors... The Silurians was a lost story at the time that Warriors Of The Deep was being filmed, so the writers.... guessed! Sadly this isn't a joke.
The Silurians was never a lost story.
There’s no such thing as continuity in that story
The Silurian race had different variations across the world, that’s why they look different since each civilisation had some genetic and physical differences
and then the new series happened and silurians became sexualized
Jon Pertwee is my favourite Doctor. He’s got such an incredible presence.
@@marcse7en Jodie Whittaker is fantastic.
@@MovieMagic515 We can dream...
@@BritishBriggsy That's my opinion. There's no need to be rude.
@@MovieMagic515 I'm sorry, didn't mean to cause offense - I was only being sarcastic. Have a great rest of your day :)
@@BritishBriggsy Oh sorry. I read that completely wrong. My mistake. I hope the same for you too.
This is a great story and im loving the second Silurian who seems to have a bit of a hissy fit and just storms off. Also love his pitched voice. Still easily the best Silurian story
EMS Productions that’s where your wrong because we all know Warriors of the Deep is the best because of its acting, directing, good story.... that totally does not have a billion subplots and it’s special eff.... I’m sorry I can’t hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha omg that’s a piece of crap but no for real this is probably the best story
This was Dr Who at his best a peacemaker. While the story of the Silurians was a real social commentary on the futility of war and bigotry that still works today. This is probably my second favorite Pertwee episode ever.
*The Doctor
@@sillygoose635 Either is fine. He's literally "Doctor Who" in the credits, and Bessie has a license plate of "WHO 1".
@@milibaeindustries Also, Troughton's Doctor once gave his name as "Doctor von Wer" or "Doctor Who" in German. There are a lot of pedants in this fandom it seems.
@@milibaeindustries Agreed, and not to mention this serial is titled 'Doctor Who and the Silurians'.
@@AndrewChapman You could make the argument that the serial is called And The Silurians.
3:13 This is how I end every argument.
"i disagree, we must destry them!" yup, seem legit :P
I'd wager that just means the 'I disagree!' *march away* bit.
@@mr.barcode3186
I know it's six years later but I personally end every argument with the whole line 😁😈
This was a great serial, but there was something hilarious about Starscream.
He was like a stroppy teenager. "I disagree!!... we must destroy them."
+DakNJaxter I takes all sorts to make a Silurian world
Not the most convincing writing or acting there. Even the Silurian was sold on the Doctor's plea awfully easily
You know his name is Morka
@@Josiah_TheGreat I may have at the time. I think I just called him Starscream because he was a whiney would-be usurper.
"I'm going to my hibernation pod! hmf!"
*Slams door*
Pertwee's first season is quite unique in Who history. The season influenced by Quatermass - slow-burn stories that were unsettling and gripping. The switch in direction was brief yet made a lasting impression.
The second Silurian is just hilarious.
Teenagers, eh?
That second Silurian was to the point, I'll give it that. 'We must accept them as equals' 'I DISAGREE!' :P
The Silurian's voices is the coolest thing ever.
I love this story! I remember being terrified as a kid when they finally revealed what had been stalking the countyside. Such a great way to introduce an alien by seeing through their eyes and then finally showing the audience what they actually look like at the climax to an episode.
These were definitely the best Silurians compared to the much more Human ones of recent years.
Got to love the Silurian leader willing to negotiate with and accept humans and ultimately sacrificed his life for them
Genius writing. In this scene, all that is wrong with the World is laid bare, distrust, inter racial disagreements, mania. Malcolm Hulk - very underated.
Second Silurian: But I wanted to kill them! Not fair! Waaaaaaaaaaah! Throws tantrum
An interesting fact, here. This episode was shown in 1970, and the Silurian's go into hibernation intending to be woken 50 years in the Earth's future.
The new episode, The Hungry Earth, takes place in 2020. Exactly 50 years into the future :3
Jack395re Matt Smith's Doctor did recall his first encounter with the Silurians in Cold Blood.
A great story that points out how wars can start - a few bad men with either a desire for conflict or fearing what they do not understand.
This episode may have been made in 1970 but it certainly wasn't set in 1970
The Brigadier was ordered to destroy their base, yes.
The Brigadier follows his orders, but he always tries to give the Doctor time to make them see what nimrods they are being if his orders are stupid.
This clip just reminds me I should watch this story again
People have to remember in the Matt smith story those silurians are another tribe of the species
The Silurians in The Hungry Earth was probably a subspecies, because instead of the third eye, these Silurians had a Forked Tongue that contained venom.
Clive Mattinson that’s your opinion, the majority however agree that it’s good so there’s no need to storm in like your opinions a fact
It feels weird to see Doctor Who clips in color, I have been enjoying the past two months. :)
3:13 Pretty sure I've come across that guy in the comments on YT.
A brilliant concept with brilliant acting and brilliant moments.
3:12 - 3:17 He's gone off in a strop! when I first watched this that bit was so funny
3:13 When someone says Doctor Who is bad.
Paul Darrow!
And we have Color. WOO
And wow the Silurians have changed a lot since the old episodes
Silurians have changed so much.
Yes they saw numerous changes in their physical appearances.
The doctors said something like he knew the Silurians but from other tribe, not the sames, but yeah, I think Brigadier kills them all in the end.
Thanks! 👍
Woohoo! Third Doctor month begins!
2:55 if Anakin Skywalker was Silurian
That's EXACTLY what i was thinking about the newer silurians :)
These are the real Silurians, not those half human/half crocodile things from the new series.
Completely agree. Those stupid new designs have betrayed the spirit of the original ones. Probably the worst redesign that the new series has ever gone with.
+Jamie Bell I know what you mean, frankly, the very idea these are "the new and improved model" feels PAINFULLY lame to me. I guess COST EFFECTIVENESS has won yet another round...
Nicolas Natalini yes mate I totally agree with you
Nicolas Natalini Yeeaahh I can see where you're coming from. I think if they had kept those angry looking grey masks they wear as their faces it wouldn't be too bad.
Can you imagine trying to sell a lesbian romance between a human and one of these Silurians? LOL the new series would've probably got a lot of concerned letters.
The second Silurian's voice reminds me of Wimp Lo from Kung Pow.
That second Silurian has Hugh Laurie's speech patterns...
I honestly prefer this Silurian story than the 2 parter in series 5. I know they end in a similar way but I like classic one goes.
It's literally the same story without U.N.I.T a dull cast which solely relied on the Siliurians It's a passable remake at best which was lifted by 11 Amy Rory.
The second Silurian looks really pouty.
This is next series I'm waiting to watch in the 3rd doctor who from 1970 including inferno, and the ambassadors of death
I prefer this design better than the new ones
yes in the 'Beneath the surface' Boxset with the sea devils and warriors of the deep
The Liberator's teleport system's a little off course. Avon has been teleported to the wrong place, the wrong time, and the wrong reality!
I think you can still find them onliine, although it's very hard, made even harder by the BBC's messing around with the revival starting it with Series 1. But it is a crying shame that they don't repeat these old episodes more often on television, considering the popularity of the New Show and the amount they repeat those. It's almost as if they're ashamed of this old and cheap programme and would rather just sell it as high prices to the rabid fanbase
this been released on dvd\?
But it's still quite an elegant connection, isn't it? It's not like they're the same Silurians, it's just a nice nod to the 1970 episode. I like interesting connections like that :)
I know, I love the Doctor who before Nu-Who, even though I first saw Nu-Whu when I was ten. Unfortunately, they are not that widely available, and they only come on disks, I would love to see some on the TV...
Well you said "and we have color". The silurians have never in black and white stories.
But the Silurians we see in this episode are all killed, aren't they?
I love the way the alien species have evolved from the way they looked in the classic episodes.
They're not alien though. And they look far too overhumanized in the revival series.
The Doctor inviting the Silurians to take over Phoenix and Las Vegas.
Think that happens to the Doctor alot.
This is exactly what happened in the hungry earth? Almost an exact repeat of this story...
If you're talking about the doctors revisted episodes, they'll probably air the movie most likely.
Yes, then is my taste broken.
In the new version they look much better.
So if it's going to be a different doctor every month, what happens when they get to Paul McGann's 8th Doctor?
They should bring the Sea Devils back to Doctor Who!
They should make the Sea Devils appear more Reptilian than Amphibian like in the Jon Pertwee story Dr Who and The Sea Devils.
3 has virtually the same conversation (Your species can live in areas of no interest to Humans so both species can coexist. Would Mankind agree to this? Well. I'll have a word with them 'cause if not there's gonna be a big punch up.) with the Sea Devil leader in, erm..............The Sea Devils.
If it was made in 1969, surely when they call them apes, a number of people at home would go absolutely mental, I know my Grandmother would, surely it was a risk, even now some people would find this offensive, judging as it is saying that we evolved from apes. I don't know, this one was before my time.
Awesome story from DW's greatest season. But yeah - Silurians relocated to the parts of the world controlled by cultures that are currently the most warring and backward? - sounds highly plausible!!
Arizona?
The real Silurians not the crappy faux ones with tuts, mini-skirts and human faces.
Haha like this clip
Well if I was a Silurian , I wouldn't trust humans either. The end said it all.
The hungry earth was the 1st ever silurian story i sore
UNIT should have been included in the episode.
I feel sorry for you.
Starkicker why? It was the first I saw as well yet this is still my favourite Silurian story
And Moffat goes screws these up hated the new design
this is identical to cold blood
No as in the previous two doctors
Second Silurian is nist angry costuming didnt spens as much time on his mask as the first Silurian. Flopsy wopsy
Phil Swaim ?
walking fish to human sized lizards. WOah
These silurians look the best but obvs need to stick the costume on properly - but their faces look the best
There sweet
I meant the Doctor's in general, but I'm sorry for being vauge
Implying this episode was in black and white?
(insert leafy reference here)
I couldn't think up of a proper name Wow so edgy you know that leafy is here has nothing to do with doctor who.
2:55 sounds like mr blobby if he was a man
Your asking them upload over 700 videos in this one year? Anyway its a doctor per month.
No need to apologise, I was merely pointing something out
I love these Silurians. I also love the modern ones, just as much. Perhaps very slightly more, because they're more scientifically accurate (were such a species to have existed) than the old ones. Cue disgruntled, stubborn purists on high horses in 3, 2, 1...
I was very disappointed with the new Silurians. All the imagination and reptillian "otherness" of these originals was discarded.
The new version of the Silurians are a branch of the species or rather a subspecies that the Doctor encountered in his 3rd incarnation.
i hate the new dr who. this is genius.
I love both in different ways.
At least they have female versions now.
Yes and the look like shit.
