      I made an extra room in the house my craft room husband finally allowed after a year, guess gauging if I was serious about this UA-cam stuff and social media since I never had any of this in my life before. Have two light a ring light a mic. But do wish I could record outside more often especially being in Texas when the weather is nice and not 110 lol only think is I’m now having issues with Instagram posting my flatlays where the pictures look hazy. Thanks for showing us the whole shabang! 🤣 I think this will be really helpful for people wondering what to use for getting started.
    Those windows are great for nice lighting! I like how simple, yet effective your setup is. I don't have a natural light option in my room at all. So I use an Amaran 200d LED light that I got on sale and a 60" Glow octabox that I wasn't using for my photography any more. I have a couple of small old LED lights and lamps to light up the back of my room. Before that I used a really cheap light kit with 5 flourescent bulbs and a white shoot through umbrella and that worked fine for a long time.
    For my audio, I have a RODE VideoMic Pro boomed on a stand above and in front of me just out of frame. That plugs straight into my camera. My screen recording is pretty complex currently because of the nature of what I record there (Studio One, Loopback, OBS, etc.). I'm hoping to find a simpler solution, but it works for now 😅

    • @Ty_Myers
      @Ty_Myers  2 дні тому

      Yes! Thanks for all the details. I'm hoping at some point I can figure out how to get into a dedicated room so I can control the lighting a bit better. I'm somewhat restricted to certain hours of the day where I can record. What does Studio One and Loopback do?

    • @DadRockAndGuitars
      @DadRockAndGuitars 2 дні тому +1

      @@Ty_Myers Studio One is the recording software I usually use for writing and recording songs (guitars, drums, vocals, etc.) I often demonstrate how I do this in my videos with screen recording. Loopback takes audio from different (or even multiple software applications at the same time) and sends that to OBS. Kind of like funneling a bunch of different possible audio sources down to just a single source that OBS sees. This allows me to hear what I'm doing in Studio One while playing guitar live as well as other things. Hopefully that makes sense.

    Great video. I have a very similar set up. I use iPhones to record all of my content and have been since 2015. Just a pro tip..since you’re not using your MacBook to read your notes, you can use it to mirror the image on your iPhone. That way if you want to use your rear cameras (higher quality) instead of the front facing, you can see yourself and frame your shot using the image on your MacBook. All you have to do is set everything up like you have it in your vid, then choose the “Mirroring” icon on your iPhone, then choose to mirror on your MacBook. That has been a game changer for me.

    • @AndreSjoberg
      @AndreSjoberg День тому +2

      +1 for this :) Colors tend to be better using the rear camera (main 1x lens) also, and using the mac to mirror is a good trick :) For Windows users there are some options for displaying the iphone screen, but most of them are either paid to remove watermarks etc or have weird quirks. Personally I use an older iphone with Blackmagic Camera App installed, which I also use on my main 15 pro max to record, and the BM Cam App has a remote control feature that allows me to not only see what the other phone sees, but control it as well, very usefull :)
      And to Ty: Yes, I will be making a video on that soon :)

    • @Ty_Myers
      @Ty_Myers  День тому +2

      Thanks for this, I'm going to shift back to the rear camera. I started with the rear camera and just set up my shot in that tripod and then used my mic to gauge where to sit. I never thought to use my mac to mirror the shot though, I'll have to give that a try.
      I don't think I like the front facing camera after having tested it out in quite a few videos. I find myself looking at myself and not always at the lens and also it doesn't seem to be quite a good.
      For the mirroring, are you referring to the newer iPhone Mirroring feature that's relatively new?

      @@AndreSjoberg haha you knew I was going to ask didn't you lol. I think that's going to be my next step is trying out Blackmagic. At some point I'd like to get more skilled up on getting the right exposure and white balance in my shot.

    • @AndreSjoberg
      @AndreSjoberg День тому +1

      @@Ty_Myers Hehehe ;) It is a «game changer» in terms of control, and since we are using phones the aperture is locked anyway, and the shutter speed needs to be either 1/48 for 24 fps or 1/60 for 30fps - so the only settings you will be adjusting is the iso and the white balance for all practical purposes. And one doesn’t *have* to film in apple log, so it doesn’t have to impart way much extra work, but if one wants to learn the option of doing log and outs and grading is there if one wants to :)

      It doesn't speed up the video but it's better for slow-mo because you see more frames in the same condensed period of time which makes it appear smoother while still slow.
      It's also better for fast-paced video, or video with a lot of movement. (imagine somebody snowboarding, you'd want a high frame-rate to capture that so there's less motion blur between the frames). For talking-head video like I do, 24 or 30 fps is just fine.
