- AVerMedia seems to have mostly fixed the issues I was having with their Live Gamer Portable 2 Plus 4k60 passthrough capture card, so I figured it was time to provide a quick update and answer a few questions I've gotten about it.

Well, should the video really be called THEY FIXED IT (in all caps) when it still has issues? I mean sure, improvement, yay and stuff but... I don't think it says "4K at almost 60 fps" on the box, right?

But the LGP2 plus does not record 4k ... ? It allows you to play 4k games ... it only records 1080...?
I just got one in due to the fact my Elgato died and it was on sale for $160. So far it does what it does and at an exceptional level. I thought recording 4K downsampled to 1080p would kill my CPU but no I can record and watch Netflix or UA-cam with ease while recording. Though the video file is a tad bit fuzzy and that's a problem on my end because I need to figure out how to configure the video quality. But other than that it's a solid capture card.

I'm tempted to grab this device to record some console goodness. how does this hold up in 2021? Has it improved compared to this video from March 2018?
I got one back in January and have had tons of problems. Everything it captures comes out pixelated and I know its not OBS cause I have good settings. I use it to record my Nintendo Switch so at first I thought it was just the Switch that looked bad, but upon looking at other peoples switch streams I knew it had to be the capture card.
@@lw62345 Glad I passed by on this one then. I ended up grabbing a Treaslin capture device (The PC picks it up as a Mirabox device) and that seems to be recording well so far. I've been using it a lot for Super Mario 3D world and started using it for Mario Maker 2 as well.
It was worth the $130 CAD price tax it had. (this and the Mirabox is the exact same device, and that cost $180 CAD lol) The videos come out look pretty good for those games, and even gives a solid 60 FPS.

I found out that the only way to get this device detected as a 4k device is to attach the output HDMI to a monitor that supports 4k (in my case, my 4k TV). Also I still experience the low motion stutter using the Stream Engine source. The only way I can get it to show smooth 60fps is to use the Live Gamer Portable 2 Plus source and set the video format in OBS to "Any." It's funny cuz this source doesn't require any software installation. The problem with this is, the color of the output looks washed out.
Yeah that source is pulling the internal encoder's feed which will be very compressed, require more CPU usage, and look pretty crappy
So I recently got this and have been trying to figure out the audio in OBS. It sounds terrible and the game audio fades in and out when using my mic. I'm using a blue yeti mic and the ps4 going through the card connected to my 4k tv and laptop. Any advice or tutorials on setup would be appreciated.
Quick question, I have this same capture card. You say there was a firmware update in March of 2018 but on the website the latest version to download is November 2018 version 1.1.4.1. Is that the one your are using. Im experiencing the exact same slowdown. I cant get a consistent 60fps. In ReCentral4 its everywhere from 62fps to 55fps, bunch of stuttering on my recordings. Thanks!

i have a problem with my LGP2 Plus, when i record my switch in PC-Free Mode, it doesn't rec in Full HD, that's the same when i record my computer, the firmware is update, i don't understand ?
I just want to record to the micro sd, no HDR pass through right ? but if I'm playin a game that has HDR, is HDR still enable on my TV
No passthrough means it can’t pass through the card to your TV

I've a really old Mac- would this be a bad option? I'd like to be able to stream to Twitch. It's appealing because of the pass through and the SD card option if my Mac shits the bed.
Quality wise I'll likely be recording old PS1 and PS2 games so I'd be happy enough getting 720p 30 frames. Thanks alot!
Would you recommend this capture card over the ElgatoHD60S+ for the price? or should I spend more for an HD60S+ for the PS5?
I'd say the elgatoHD60S+ would probably be the better route for ps5 for 4K capture this is only 4K pass though so it wouldn't actually capture 4k only allow your display to be 4k which apparently doesn't work right from what is said in the video, unless I misunderstood
Can I use two of these on one computer at the same time, will there be a USB conflict or something to that sort? I want to use one to capture my switch gameplay and the other one to capture my dslr camera to use as a webcam.
The problem I'm having with this device is the crispness of the recorded image quality. So I also own the original LGP C875 and in Recentral i have the settings maxed out for 1080p 30fps @ 60mbps. The image quality that comes from the C875 is far superior to that of the LGP2+, even at the same settings, and I've no idea why. I even cranked the mbps in recentral 4 up to 240 (the max it will go) and it still doesn't capture the level of detail the original LGP does. It just blows my mind, honestly. I'm running the latest firmware on both. I can even see the same artifact muddiness in your video. It's not a "crisp" image. Oh well...I'll just stick with the og LGP until I can afford Elgato xD
I have the LGP 2 normal edition and it was the same s#|+. The quality was exceptional at 1080p30 but it was horrible at 1080p60.
Why bother buying this product when it's literally 4$$ and a LGP does the same thing but better... not to mention the LGX2 exists
If they release this thing again but with a proper H265 encoder, it would be worth it.
A portable pc free capture card at 1080p60 or even 1440p60 uncompressed? Damn, I'm buying that.
Fun fact? My unit died thanks to firmware corruption, AVerMedia literally did nothing to help me so now I have a paperweight
I have this card also - I found the only way to force a resolution higher than 1080 is to go to the Nvidia Control Panel and insert a "custom resolution" then select it in the display settings after right clicking on your desktop.
The resolution then becomes selectable in the RECentral 4 software, but only in the "multi" capture mode, not in single for some reason.
This will allow you to pass a 4k signal through the device but recording at this resolution seems very choppy. The only way to record it is with a 4k pass-through and recording at 1080p, which seems redundant.
All in all a little disappointed as this was purchased solely for 4k recordings.
Can u use obs with it and do u have to use a usb 3.0?
If my computer memory isn’t strong enough but I can ply games n shit, is there anything I can do? Like if I recorded from a memory card then loaded the gameplay from card to computer would that work??

Re-installed windows and I'm having similar issues on still screens. Not to mention I can't get console audio in OBS anymore and RECentral thinks the device is already in use. Instructions aren't very helpful. Pretty annoying

I considered using Recentral4 because I thought that would work but the app itself is having problems so I can’t even try that. I have to stream without game audio 🙄
So I have an elgato HD60 and recently got a 1440p monitor. When hooked up to the capture card games are forced down to 1080p if in full screen. Which capture cards support 1440p pass through?

Not that I'm aware of. They may have bundled with someone for a promo, but nothing I recall is what you're referring to.

So just to clarify since by this video you seem very adept (to say the least), I have a 4K tv that I currently use with my Xbox one x and I’m looking to be able to capture in 1080p60 while still playing in 4K. Other alternatives seem to require expensive splitters (at least with Elgato products), and if I’m right this would solve that issue entirely, correct? 🙏🏼
This will do it, as will any of the 4K capable cards w/ passthrough (Elgato 4k60 Pro, AVerMedia Live Gamer 4K, Live Gamer Ultra, Live Gamer Extreme 2, Razer Ripsaw HD)

So it's 2022 all I want to do is record let's plays with my wii i have hdmi converter for my wii I'm a retro boy. Is this cap card still good for (recording only with out the pc)
Yeah this is still perfect for recording Wii and such, I'd recommend a Retrotink 2x Pro and an Mclassic if possible to go with the LPG2+ to get to best video quality from you Wii.

Make sure you select the game audio in the capture
Did you try to do an EDID Override to see if you could get 1440P+ to work from the PC? Might be worth a try! :)
I know this is an old video but I am hoping someone can help me out. As someone who does not have my own pc yet and only an outdated laptop i can borrow every now and then i plan on buying this thing for the "plug and play" "pc free mode". How good does this mode work?? If i was to just use my HDTV and my xbox one S to record gameplay and commentary is the quality looking okay?? Does it actually pass as 1080p quality when uploading clips to youtube or similar?? As someone who is not rich this seems like the affordable thing for me to get. Just want to know what everyone thinks in regards to ease of access and quality
Hi, I would love to use this device in PC mode with tiny/small PC with very low power consumption. Does any of you have any experience using it with not powerfull PCs? i3, Atoms, Celerons, Pentiums, generarly 2core CPU? Please post your experiences !
It works like any capture card, it might lag because it's your pc doing all the work. If you have trouble recording with OBS (a webcam or whatever, you can try using your phone as a webcam with apps at 1080p60) it will do the same thing with this.
If you plan to use it to save videos on your pc, the Live gamer mini (I believe it's the correct name) has an option to film using the capture card instead of your PC. The LGP OG does a similar thing but at 1080p30
If you buy this crappy capture card (the encoder is not good, specially above 30fps), the stream engine software for this capture card will make it waaaaay less exigent. The problem is the quality, it will drop noticeably but at least will work.

I've always considered myself a bit of a lurker viewer (normally something you think of with Twitch) and I rarely comment but... I appreciate the heck out of you man. The first video I saw was a handful of tutorials on how to do pretty much everything involving my set up lol.
Microphones, OBS, how to connect things, settings/configuration tips and after subscribing I'd just watch, like and move on (and read helpful comments) but I feel obligated to say this now. Your channel is excellent, you seem like a great person and I hope your consistently great content finds you great success.
Also, the fact you can do an update video is such a cool thing to do. I hope anybody else that sends things in knows they're in good hands and you'll do your part to properly represent the product, even if it's not excellent since it can hopefully be updated or improved on.

This capture card does not have FreeSync pass through. Super frustrating when I want to enable FreeSync on my Xbox One X. Would a HDMI 2.0 splitter allow for FreeSync passthrough?
No capture card supports FreeSync or GSync period.

Ok, I have bough this capture card from amazon(4k Toblerone) and tryed doing ultrawide, It kinda works but overall streaming from my own pc worked better then actually using this for ultra wide, aside from that it does what its suppose to do rather well with some setups but its deffinatly not what I expected =/.
i love this channel but i brought this device and OMG is it the most stressful thing to setup in the world, paid £250 for a device that in just gona sit there now and do nothing should of just spent the extra and got a Atomos would of saved a ton of stress and would not have missed out on a ubisoft event i was meant to go to, BUYERS DO NOT BUY TRUST ME SO NOT WORTH IT

I'm sorry if it sounds silly, but I had a bad record with buying multiple bad ones(tried a few each from ebay(dumb choice, but it was my first few times before looking into it), and Amazon and best buy, and a occasional walmart online attempt just making me consider going to a store in person (tho I have very limited traveling options, the first steps are usually the hardest xD)

Yes that's what I was referring to in the video. 2560x1080, 2560x1440, 3440x1440, 3840x2160 none would get a signal on the LGP2+
oh, alright, I just thought you were referring to the resolutions not being exposed to Windows, since you haven't mentioned using any utilities to do that

Can it improve quality of the stream on single pc 1080/60? Somehow many streamers get good quality on 1080/60 even on 6000kbs, without many pixelization even with grass in motion, i guess its because of such devices. Cause even on medium obs preset i dont get that quality.

I saw that video ty, i mean i dont understand why some streamers get better quality. Ive tried the same settings they are using and the result was not even close as good. Only difference - they have capture cards even on single pc - dont know why if like your saying its useless for pc games. im kinda confused and think there is something about capture cards...
I get recording-looking quality all the time via normal OBS game capture and medium/slow preset stuff. Game capture hooks directly from the game's feed whereas a capture card takes a separate signal - if anything capture card *technically* has more color compression and lower technical quality.
Slower-moving games compress better than others. How you scale the footage can make it look better or worse (i.e. 720p at 6mbps looks better than 1080p at 6mbps for fast-paced games, whereas full 1440p or 4k can look sharper for normal desktop stuff at the same bitrate), using the right color modes, packet loss can degrade quality, etc. etc.
There's a lot that goes into it, but a single PC capture card setup - especially one like this that has pretty low quality in the first place - does not improve stream quality.
2 PC capture card setup where you can crank it down to low X264, sure. But single PC capture card does not improve quality nor performance.

Instead of using the Windows display resolution settings try manually setting 1440p in the nvidia control panel.
I did, that's what I was referring to. Tried a few resolutions from 1440p to 4k and none would display a signal on the LGP2+
