AVerMedia's new Live Gamer Extreme 3 capture card just released and I'm mostly just asking... why? Here's my review of the GC551-2 or the Live Gamer Extreme 3 and testing its HDR support, VRR compatibility, etc.

I think if Radeon brought the All-In-Wonder series back, but with a HDMI capture card instead of a TV capture card like before, that would be super cool tbh
I really want someone to make an A380 like that
@@EposVox oh yes, that media engine paired with a capture card? Pls!
I had the 9700 all-in-wonder, that brings back memories
The audio line through is perfect! I needed this for my haptic feedback vest when playing VR and streaming. Very niche and worth it.
Are there any USB 3.1 Gen 2 capture cards that use the higher 10 Gigabit transfer?
No :(
This is the first time I've ever seen a public video before any views showed up. Neat!
Also good video on the AVerMedia card. Definitely seems... odd.
To think that avermedia was the king of capture cards when they released the first 1080p 60 card with the EZCAP and then the GC550. But nowadays it’s disappointing compared to other offerings. I hope we get an AV1 capture card soon from elgato or EVGA :s
Damn, was hoping this card supported HDR. Super weird that the Ultra card can do it though. I am looking for a proper upgrade from the Avermedia LGP Plus 2. Is there a capture card you recommend where I can stream at 1440p HDR VRR if I chose to for youtube?
Hey EposVox. I've been using the AverMedia capturecards for a while and I personally use the line in/out connectors as an option for audio capture while using my USB headset with a line out after having a nightmare experience with VM Banana. My AV LGP2PLUS has treated me well. I know it's dated but I'll use it till I can't.
Hi mate, new to the channel. I'm pretty fed up with Xbox's DVR and am in the market for a capture card since I'd like to create content with game and headset audio if possible. I've been looking at the Elgatos and oh boy, bit outside of my acceptable price range. Say my budget is $120 or preferably less, what are my options? (will be running on a 4K TV with Xbox Series X).
Cheers, great content.
Hi EposVox, I've seen you review many Capture Cards. Do you know how to record game videos with 120-300fps in games that look smooth without frame duplicate or stuttering? I have a 240hz monitor, and I'm willing to adjust it down to 120Hz to use Avermedia 4k GC573 to record at 120fps or 60fps, but the video still has frame duplicate and stuttering. Do you know how to fix this without turning on Vsync or locking fps in the game?
hey man been a fan for a long while, you look so much like the singer of FLOYA, every time I see one of their videos its all I can see haha, they are also that 90s nostalgia rock that I fell like you'd like, anyway have a good one!
Is there any settings or ways to reduce input lag/latency when playing console through obs? are there other software that have less input lag than obs?
What’s the best capture card in your opinion ? I’m debating on this one, EVGA XR1 Pro, & Elgato HD60 X.. leaning more towards to the Elgato HD60 X but would love to know your opinion.. using an Xbox Series X
Saved me a purchase thanks Epos👍
Running a 2 pc set up. Not able to get audio unless i switch gaming pc sound to avermedia. I have the gpu in to cap card and then usb into stream pc. Only vid no sound. Shouldnt i get sound? Or do i need to go line out to line in through cap card
Im here waiting for another Capture Card with ability to record to microSD from AverMedia because the elGato one is too expensive. So I recently bought a used Live Portable Game 2 Plus again for dirt cheap. But its kinda outdated for new consoles like PS5 so my only other option is the elGato one so will gonna use this till I can save enough.
It's actually correct that AMD gpu output has hdcp protection if you don't turn it off.
There is a setting for it, it's just really weird that this is the default.
I've got an avermedia live gamer ultra 2 and lately when I stream it's fine but when I go back and look at the stream on twitch my game audio and game video goes out of sync. Any ideas?
So whats the best capture card to get for internal use
wish i would had saw this before buying my LGP2+ for my xbox series s. currently tryna find a work around to use it just capture gamechat in xbox.
Started looking into this since there was a $45 discount given to me and I'm not entirely sure if this would be good for me. I'm not doing anything crazy, just trying to stream games from my switch in 1080 or lower resolution and I'm not *that* tech savvy, so I'm not sure if this would be worth it.
It's wild when an EasyCAP gives Avermedia a run for their money (and for my use case and budget considerations is a better option)
I know it’s not AverMedia but it’s related sort of. What are the odds someone on GitHub would attempt to write a Mac driver for the Elgato 4K60 S+ - I know someone is doing a Linux attempt with the Mk 2 so is this even possible?
I just need a capture card that I can use a chat link cable with my MacBook Pro. Sounds like the el gato hd60x can’t do it. I’m just looking for an alternative.
Tell me, does this card support 3440x1440 resolution? I have a 34" ultrawide monitor, can this card support it?
Does this capture card allow to play on 1440p240 monitor without capping frames to 144 on it (while capturing at 144fps)? If not, is there any capture card besides 4k60 Pro MK.2 that have this feature? I'm looking for external one for my dedicated streaming laptop, but I think that building dedicated streaming desktop is only way to go for this moment. I'd be glad for help.
Nope, covered in the specs section. No capture card supports 1440p240. Your only option would be NDI or using obs projector preview out to the card
Elgato for me is ahead of avermedia, with the elgato 4K60 pro mk.2 and 4K60 S+ cards receiving software updates and now both support vrr. and until today no update for Live Gamer 4K GC573 from avermedia
The only good thing about this capture card is audio in and out
I miss the audio out on avermedia lately
somebody should check if the discount code work on any other avermedia products... like for example their amazing live streamer mic arm. that thing is excellent, got mine before the price hike 👍
Ever since AverMedia dropped their Western Partner management team, it was a sign that they don't see value in the western market. They must make enough money in their home market to release a card like this considering the competition. Just seems sad
Actually they didn’t, reach out to them and they will sign u back up. Apparently some miscommunication
Question: Why do you need a product such as this when Windows have a capture capability using the Windows+G command?
For sources on the same computer that you can capture locally, you don’t need one and shouldn’t buy one. It’s more for cameras, external computer sources, game consoles c etc
So the Partner program was never dropped. That was misinformation given in the old AVerMedia discord group. Anyone who was an AVerMedia partner is still an AVerMedia partner of which I am and have been since 2019. I agree a lot of the changes were abrupt but the partner program being dropped isn’t true
You seem to really know your stuff. I just got an Elgato HD60S+ the only thing I have used it for so far is the Steam Deck and its stuttering on the video capture side. Been researching and all the fixes I found do not work (better USB port, buffering in OBS, etc) at this point I might send it back and get something else. This was one of the items I was looking at, and obviously by your review not recommended. So what is your top commendation for an external capture card?
any update?
If i was to game on a 4k 144hz pc and use a second pc to capture the footage and stream it to twitch at 864p would this capture card allow me to do that?
Not without using OBS Projector preview out to the capture card, at which point you might as well use NDI or OBS Teleport. No capture card supports 4k144
Why is the game audio so bad on this idk what to do to fix it
T-shirt giving me some serious Sailor Moon vibes.
Maybe when they make the LGP3 it'll be the best card on the market
Here fast af boi!
Zoom zoom
So do you recommend evga xr1 pro?
Yep
What about the pcie version
But can it work with other consoles besides the ps5 xbox and series x and s?
Well yes of course
Seriously why can't they make USB 3.2 gen2 capture cards? Also why is Live Gamer Bolt still so expensive? :C
Niche, less mass produced and expensive thunderbolt controller
Does this have a “pc free” mode?
No, it’s hdmi to usb only
My experience with this card has been terrible. Every time I try to record from the PS5, I don't know what I'm going to get. I go from clicks, pops and sound fades to outright sloggy sound and Avermedia has been worthless in trying to help me with this problem. At this point I'll never buy another Avermedia product.
I don't get companies like this that make a crap ton of confusing products when they just offer one service.
This one offers 4k, but no 1440p! This one does 1440p, but only 60. This one doesn't allow HDR. This one allows VRR. This one allows this pass through but not captured. This one allows both, but only at...
HDMI chips are complicated and expensive, and the bleeding edge of new display formats keeps changing. If they just did one that did everything, it would be PCIe only and VERY expensive
I bought an AverMedia ExtremeCap U3 few years ago, AverMedia abandoned that product and all the support, leaving it in a unusable state. I will never buy another AverMedia product again.
Avermedia is amazing. Software was literally plug and play for me love them.
11:48 They did what? Damn
Sounds like a disappointment. I love my Live Gamer Bolt but sounds I need to change it soon.
I was definitely here
Me too
Not worth it... EVGA XR1 Pro is currently and often at $99.99
When are these companies going to finally put out an HDMI 2.1 capture card? I don’t even care if the capture portion is crap. I paid too much money for my consoles and PC to not be able to use the full 4K 120hz HDR. If a capture card can’t at least pass through that, I don’t want it. It boggles my mind that we are multiple years into the cycle of HDMI 2.1 capable devices and none of these companies have put out a product to take advantage of it.
I was sponsored with Avermedia but they let everyone go, don't know why at all.
I covered at the end. They laid off their entire NA PR team and shut down the partner program
@@EposVox they just dm me, they said if anyone you knew was on the sponsored team reach out to them. I guess they seen this comment.
Never been this early before 😳
Oh snap
yep, sad, i like their high end products.
Same
I wonder if they thought they had a hit with this card when they decided to release it. 🤣
So why Call it extreme... Should be called limited...
Don't you worry about AVerMedia, let me worry about blank!
?
Futurama reference.
ua-cam.com/video/-6qIYgwebhM/v-deo.html
Oh duh sleepy brain. My bad
AverMedia is good but this capture card doesnt feel like their best.
Which one of their cards would you say is there best?
This better then a elgato
Vrr nothing have 4k120hz bud
First
Wow! Another cash grab card on the market!!! After 4 elgato cards and 1 avermedia I think I'm done... Hey @EposVox Maybe you can talk to the guys at NDI and get them to come up with a software solution for consoles that supports a capture of 1080p 120fps and 1440p @120fps with HDR and VRR... Already available for PC... This market is trash. They knew 2 years prior to the release of next gen consoles that they were coming and here we are 2 1/2 years later looking for decent capture solutions? I'm Done...
Its pretty cheap compared to the other ones
AVerMedia is crap. IMO
