I've never cared for the black rifle "tactical" look. I love walnut stocks with beautiful wood grain and deep blue finish. I will also echo other comments about the model 99. I inherited my dad's model 99 - in .300 Savage of course, with a classic 4x weaver scope. He got a fine 4x4 mule deer and a Rocky Mountain elk with that rifle, and it was his favorite firearm.
I'm with you. Everything in the world is made in black anymore it looks ugly and it's hard to find, I don't need a tactical shaving kit, tactical luggage or a tactical pen. I like wood, brass, olive drab, just not yellow, purple, pink & etc.
Looks cool. Nice wood. Love my Henry version for plinking and squirrels, had it for many years. The buckhorn sights are very traditional, but they kind of suck. It would be great if Savage came out with a center fire lever gun too! Savage makes wonderful rifles.
The 99 was available in 30-30, among many other calibers. I had one. In fact, I read that the "mad trapper" of the Canadian manhunt fame, carried one. The movie "death hunt" staring Charles Bronson, is based on the true story. Check out the movie, it is a good one. Firearms aficionados will particularly enjoy it.
Here is what I havnt been able to understand. Why has the old pump rifles more or less gone away. I love my 2 REM 760 game master pumps. .35 rem and 3006. I would love to see a pump 350 legend come to market which I could see also be appealing to those who are in a straight wall cartridge state for deer hunting but also don’t want to use an AR platform or are not allowed semi autos. personally I am more comfortable and faster with a pump action in the deer wood than I am with a lever action as well. Plus a pump action can be made to handle more pressure than most standard lever action designs as well. But for some reasons you really don’t see any new pumps actions out there.
Did few videos on my channel of the 760 gamemaster in 30-06 great shooting rifle and great deer hunting rifles took deer with last year on Sunday hunt . Big thing here Pennsylvania where we couldn't hunt deer on a Sunday 😮. Also just put a service video up on it on how to clean one and why. Also few older range video was my wifes uncles old rifle from before he passed. Got few videos on 35rem what nice shooter in levergun
I have Dad’s 30-06 on loan from my brother and my 280 Remington in 760. I use the 06 because the trigger pull is cleaner. But both have taken deer. My grandfather’s 300 Savage gets one or two every year too.
58 years old this week and I have never owned a 22lr rifle. My first boolot slinger was a 12 gauge pump I couldn’t hit the broadside of the barn from the inside.
It would be pricey. I wonder if anyone would buy a cheap one with plastic stock and matt finish or coated finish, birch stock and no cartridge counter etc.
@@garyh1449 yeah I agree, as much as people would love a new 99, it would be very spendy to have the kind of quality the originals had, OR, in order to keep it affordable it would be a lot of plastic, like the 42 that replaced the 24. If they could even keep it close to 1000-1200 they’d sell, but I think it would be closer to 2k +.
@@garyh1449 I disagree.modern firearms are made by CNC machinery same as the auto industry. You set the machine up for repetitive motions and a master control computer monitors the process. There is no need for expensive human costs. You will probably not find a top notch gunsmith working in a on line firearm factory. We can only hope Savage sees the 💡.
I recently bought a model 99f in .300 Savage. Has to be the sweetest carrying rifle I ever handled. I am a bolt action rifle guy but got to say that NO bolt action I ever held in my hands can compare.
Very nice! There are a number of iconic rim-fire and smaller caliber center fire rifles that would be popular I think. This looks well made and the stock seems to be really nice for a budget gun.
Might be checking them out, I’m a lever guy, just wondering how good of groups it’ll shoot !! Who tee who get busy on testing groups !! I’ll be watching for them !!!
I just knew that one day they would return to a lever action. That Revel is a beauty. I hope that in the near future we will see it in much bigger calibers! Great job WTW!!!
Just watching again. I know it's only 22LR, but it seems to eject those spent cartridges very nicely. Also, from what I can see anyway, I am also impressed with the quality of the fit and finish. Especially for the price. It seems to be well put together with straight and tight seams, clean lines and good bluing. I also like the look of the lever loop as well. The extra room will be good for gloved hands too. I think I like the look of this more than Winchester's Ranger 22LR lever gun. I just wish the Classic had the hood around the front sight like the DLX has. Regardless, It'll be interesting to see how it performs at the range. If it shoots, well done, Savage!
Being that the stock is made with Turkish walnut I'm assuming it's made in Turkey. Especially at the price Savage has them listed for at $439. Very cool, but it'd be even cooler if it was made in America. They need to also make it in .30-30, .360 Buckhammer and .45-70. Regardless, it does look very nicely finished, though. Looks and sounds solid. There's nothing like the sound of a good lever action.
It will be tough to compete with Henry. They really own the 22 Lever Action Market. I would like to see a resurrection of the Savage Model 99. They had those in some pretty hefty cartridges and with the rotary mag could shoot pointed bullets.
@@WHOTEEWHO Everyone needs a 99! Like humans, they can be a little fussy at times but they will treat you right if you treat them right. I've had 3 over the years, A 300sav, a .308 and a .243.
