  • Very common fault on the ts120 series radio, you lose receive, give it a hit, it returns to just simply disappear again. Top left hand board is most always the culprit, remove, spray every connector with Deoxit, resolder the multiple connector bases on the board, reassemble and hey presto, receive returns and you can tap for hours and your receiver will stay rock solid. Same fix if it is the s or v model, same board. Cheers brenton vk3cm

It sounds as if you work on radios for a living. I have a 120s with story attached. A certain gentleman (I use the term loosely) told me he had a TS-520 he wanted to swap for my 120s. Being disabled I went for the deal. The 520 was in good condition and worked well.
A dew days later he rang me and told me his Father told him to get the 520 back and gave me some big sob story about it being a gift from a dead relative. Big softie me said OK and we exchanged radios again. I didn't get around to using it for a month or so and when I did. nothing worked no RX no TX. I quickly found the problem, every adjustment in the PLL department had been fiddled with. Everything was dropping out. I managed toget it back to working, but I wasn't happy with the results. Being the only Amateur in town there was nobody with any decent equipment to re-align it correctly.
Not long after that I moved into town and had a neighbour who must have been run over by an Amateur, because he literally hated anyone with a radio, He even lodged a complaint with the radio inspector, even though I hadn't switched any equipment on since moving in. Radio Inspector drove 600km to check me out and found all but a 2 meter antenna erected and it was no problem. there was nothing for him to fix and boy was he irate.
Anyway, would you be willing to re-align my 120s for me. Not too far into the future I'm not going to be around and no doubt everything will be sold off by my wife. I don't want to give her extra problems with an irate buyer. By the way that guy begged me to do the 27Mhz mod and the reason he decided to play with it was simply because he read the manual where it said 300 watts and it was only giving about 80 on 27mhz. I'm tring to recall doing the mod because I'm sure I used one of the push buttons to switch something, I'm sure it was to switch 27 back to 28. Also I was a Limited Ham. G8SSM plus VK2KCB. Sadly I let the licences lapse. My radio room was downstairs and I don't have the ability to tackle stairs any more. 73's

Hi, sorry but I have retired from any repair work and mainly just doing restoration as a fill in when i can. One chap that does great work is ray at razor radios in Qld, this would be a fairly easy job for him for sure... members.dodo.com.au/raykostiainen/rr-home.html
