I have a TS-940S, it has amazing RX, I use my IC-7300 to 'look' for a signal then switch over to the TS-940SAT to listen in. However It has issues with the tuner below 20m and sometimes wont match, I really don't want to start tracking the issue down for fear of opening up a bigger can of worms , Cheers VK4NFL

It was really built to suit the amateur radio. Is it possible to add a spectrum scope on it?

I've got an FT-1000MP. It's from 1995 but I bought it in 2001. I have all the filters in it. I used it extensively until about 2004 then boxed it up for about 15 years due to different jobs, moving etc. Around 2020 the audio went out. I found a ham who fixed them, almost exclusively. His call is WA4GEG. He fixed me up. He replaced the display because it was old and there was a rising failure rate to them. He replaced all the electrolytic caps in the power supply since he had it on the bench. He recommended I not use the internal tuner. He said he was seeing some failures and that it might be difficult to find a good used ones. I have several external tuners so am using them. Its not a big deal. Unfortunately, for those needing repair, he closed his repair shop and is now retired from the repair business. Yes, its big and heavy and old but it works well and I enjoy using it. I operate CW, FT8, ssb and RTTY with it. I recently bought a FT710 but that's for portable ops. Anyway, I thought I'd chime in.

Still a fantastic Transceiver that can easily keep up with the nowadays Technology. What an amazing Sound. And if it's fully loaded with all extra SSB and AM Filters you have something on your Shack Table that spoils your hearing

Can't help to much with these because I don't own one. I can help with the external attenuator. When your on the TX screen look at the bottom left of the screen. There is a EXT - ATT setting there. That's where you would set the external attenuator level.

I just brought one of these of New Zealand’s Trademe Auction site and I gotta say after fixing the power cord that was cut off it and cleaned the board and switches- Fired her up and what a Beautiful old radio I cant get over how clean the board is Like new still original 18 channel unmolested and even the clock still works! Chassis stamp says 1973 so 50 plus years old Hopefully I can work some DX soon on it - even better with you 462 Palmy NZ.👍

I like it, just bought one and it is in like new condition. Saw some for sale on Ebay and they are pretty rough looking. Got tired of messing with junk like the Retevis TR-110's and the TR-113's they were a big fail. Didn't mind paying extra for a quality all band reciever.

I just love radios with 120+ buttons and 15+ knobs on the front. Nothing finer ever made, if you ask me.

If you just hold a screen polarization filter over the front, you will probably see the display info again. This is similar to what happens to Nintendo Game boy screens and other LCD handheld games. You see it on LCD motorcycle displays also.

I think this a polariser film issue, requires stripping down and film replaced, not done it myself but pretty sure I remember seeing a video about it years ago. PS you might know my website… RadioMods

I know this video is old But I'm glad that you brought up the question of LED lighting as my old Apollo Mk4 Base has really sensitive receiver (That's a Good thing) and when ever i look over it with my LED light magnifying glass it picks up on it Funny. So it leads me to this question when servicing a light out situation on an old CB like in my case the bulb has blown on the meter and most i see replace with a New LED type But i like warm glow of the old incandescent bulb would putting a new LED one in there cause more noise Level? Or are the New replacements better Now?

I use 50A psu, seems to go ok with with 200w. Only problem ive had, is the fuse sockets are poor quality. Would buy another 480hx tomorrow, but none around. 73 zl3xdj

Would be nice if Mike would put out some new videos. He is a genius! I have two of these CMS 54's and one has this same display issue. It may be possible to remove the polarizing layer and stick on a new one. I'm going to open mine up pretty soon and take a look. I Also have a screen from a CMS-80 that might maybe fit. Also something that I will be checking. The CMS-80's can be purchased for next to nothing as they can only do older cellular testing.

Screen polarization filter maybe... Replace with a new one. It´s a lot of work, but maybe it´s the problem.

Looks like a polariser foil issue, there are plenty of videos on YT how to fix that. It's quite big, so not exactly trivial, but doable. You may be able to harvest these foils from scrap monitors if you can't find a source to buy them new. Done that recently on a Tek 1503B.

G'day Brenton. Looks like a UV type sunburn. You should be able to replace the protective plastic window with a new piece of perspex or plexi. It shouldn't be attatched to the display. Pull it apart and have a look. Stay well, Cheers and 73's, Mark
