Proud Clinical Social Worker here! We do so much and are often underutilized. We have extensive training in psychotherapy, case management, research, program evaluation, leadership, and teaching. We also have a practice doctorate (Doctor of Social Work) and the traditional PhD. I love working in healthcare as part of an interdisciplinary team. And it’s even better when the team knows social worker’s worth and skill set.

What an excellent interview. I can totally relate when Kojo said the most difficult part of being a PMHNP is really beign in your patients shoes at their darkest moments.. this really resonated with me, because in order to be empathetic that is what you must do, and it's not easy. Which is why as providers we must always put our mental well-being first so we can be fully present for our patients. Thank you for being so transparent and beign you!
Thank you ND for all the videos. My question is: how can you get so many healthcare professionals who are willing to participate your interviews in you videos? In addition, I found your videos from UA-cam last night and I will keep watching every single one in the future. You videos are so true and so helpful in my life. Thank you so much!
Great to see you here Jake! I've been a psychiatrist for almost 15 years and a big fan of the content both you and Kojo put out. Keep up the great work!
I can never do Psych NP....that field of Psych NP is mind blowing. Question do you also see a psychiatrist yourself, because most Psychiatrist also see another psychiatrist/psychologist to get through the day.
Your thumbnails are always beautiful 🙌🏽 awesome video, interesting to see perspective of NP vs MD - do you think DNPs calling themselves Doctor is misleading to patients?
this depends on the individual and how they choose to introduce themselves. he makes a really good point about this particular topic in the upcoming vlog
@@dm7uy By virtue of being an MD/DO you are a physician... that's the difference between a PhD vs an MD/DO. How about you introduce yourself as a nurse then? Given that's what a nurse practitioner is. I might as well transfer to a DNP program and call myself a "doctor", then. It'll be a lot easier, a lot cheaper, and a lot worse for my patients :) There's a difference between addressing oneself as a "doctor" in a classroom versus in the hospital or clinical setting.
@@AppleMasterChris Dentists can absolutely use the 'doctor' title and do use it all across the US. Thank you for making this video. I hope it didnt deter you from having other Providers like Physician Assistants on. The feedback is as expected. We are all needed. Many are just egotistic and all for self preservation. When their self worth comes from a titled achievement then I can see how they think the way they think. Nurses are not Physicians and Physicians are not Nurses. Mid level providers are so neeeded. ...Nurses and so many other health care personnels are so crucial. Some Doctors dont have a clue about all it takes and thats ok because their position is so crucial and they have to know sooo much. Nurses, case managers, all the therapists, social worker, administrative staff, assistants etc take care of everything else and its alot. On top of that, Physicians now need help with the demand of patient care. Midlevel providers like PA and NP' s fill many gaps. This was supposed to be an inspirational video right? But in the comment box you can find people disparaging the work of nurses. It's sad, in my country there are many of us who aspire to be nurses because we love the art of caring for others, but there will always be people who will discredit us and make us less. It is depressing to want to be something that I know that, even though I am very passionate about it, they will make me feel sad and discredit me.
I don't really see anything wrong with him referring to himself as a doctor outside of the workplace. Like he got a Doctorate and as long as he states that he is a Nurse Practioner it's all good.
