    Car needs to be at the same level (front and rear) and than when oil start to come out from a plug (when filling) it has perfect oil level, in this case it is overfilled. So anyone who plan to work on own car make sure to make it the same level, if you want to make a good job.

    Good work with the fluid swap. One question though, shouldn't the car be level to get the correct amount of fluid in the differential?

    • @JDCarsChannel
      @JDCarsChannel  6 років тому +4

      That is a good point, but it does not make a dramatic difference.

      it should i guess around 900ml goes into normal diff , around 1ltr goes into x-drive one .

      If you want to get all the old fluid out you jack up the front then level the car and fill the same that was removed.

    • @gecko4310
      @gecko4310 4 роки тому +13

      It should be level for sure because FULL is based on fluid coming out. If the back is raised, excess fluid is added and this will damage your diff

    • @gecko4310
      @gecko4310 4 роки тому +27

      If you need to jack it to work on it after fluid is refilled, put the car on the ground and let the excess fluid flow out, then jack it up again and tight bolt

    On the e91 wagons there is a cross-member covering access to the fill plug. It can easily be removed with 5 easy to access bolts. The 3 located at the rear (1) and by the jack points (2) are 18mm sockets and the two located in the middle of the cross-member are 16mm sockets. Luckily I was doing this (and changing my shocks) with the assistance of my friend's impact gun which made this an EASY step. Wouldn't be too difficult with hand tools as long at you have a good breaker bar. Once the cross-member is removed the job is the same as in the video.

    BTW I don’t think you should sell the e90! It would be so sad to see it go! Plus with its age and the miles that are on it, you probably wouldn’t get a ton for it. I’m not saying you shouldn’t get another bimmer, just suggesting that you keep the e90. I think that it would be cool to see you do a build of an M3 or M4. If you go to copart you can easily pick up an M4 between $1K-$10K. Sure they’re going to need some work, but that means PLENTY of content for the channel!

    Nice video, clear camera work and instructions. I was wondering, however, if this is enough. Would it be a good idea to take the cover off to drain in completely, clean it and remove any metal shavings from the magnet (assuming it has one)?

      So many studies have been soaked up so many peoples time just to find out: oil is oil is oil is oil. The differences are too minimal to care and by then it needs to be swapped again anyways. Recommend all you want, that’s fine, but your recommendation is different than BMW’s so there’s already a disconnect from the beginning.
