I made a mistake that I didn’t catch until the end with that big camera in my face didn’t see it. Yes I corrected the mistake… what was it?

Well one major one I noticed was an impact gun on the axle nut. That should have been hand tightened to half the torque spec in the air. Then the full spec when the wheel is on and the weight is on the tire.

@@saltycanadian6190 I unconventionally bolted in the hub so I went until I felt the impact stop. what I did at the end was really bad.. someone will hopefully catch it, I did as soon as I stopped the film and corrected the issue.

Not torquing anything to spec. The axle bolt is supposed to be torque to 148 foot pounds plus 180 degrees not ram it home with an impact gun because you're too lazy to use a torque wrench and a breaker bar.

My guy didn’t undo suspension, reached the bolt above the lower forward, and didn’t need a press. Absolute Monster.

Honestly, doing a bearing & outer CV Boot right now. Cv grease all over the place and I stripped my last bolt, bottom left- above the forward arm. Turned my 2 hour job into a nightmare… Was impatient with an impact gun (decided not to use heat because everything else came out fairly easy) and stripped it further. Was even more impatient and snapped an extractor in the bolt after spending hella time drilling through it. Now 80% drilled into the tap and 2 days in. In the words of the God Naptown I won’t let it “make a joke outa me”. I’ll win. But… WOW. This guy did it in 30 minutes. Super impressive and inspiring. Taking notes every time. Definitely support this man any way you can.

@@allahjoseph If you drill out all of the stripped bolt through the bearing housing from front, no need to use an extractor to get rest of the bolt out. Once all the threads are gone, you can just punch it back out, no threads in the knuckle behind the bearing housing. Just be careful to drill the stuck bolt on-center with a drill bit larger than the thread diameter to obliterate all of the bolt and threads passing through the housing so it is free to hack out.

    Thanks for the video!
Just did my s5! Breaking the axle bolt loose is definitely easy if done while on the ground! Got an air hammer off amazon for 50$ and made getting the hub off easy peasy, just heated it like he did and just used the chisel attachment around the outside and popped right off! 2015 s5

Convenient. I was just going to do this over the weekend. Of course VW has like 30 types of axel nut bolts. DAP sorted me out. I was also thinking hitting it with Liquid Wench the night before. Thanks for uploading!

I think the head mounted camera worked great the music was a nice touch also!! I realize you wanted to shoot the whole job from the front side, so I get the slide hammer, but you need a larger/heavier one! (like a ten pounder). I also noticed you found the new bearing bolt ; no problem, as that bearing flange isn't going anywhere. NIce work Jared.
It would have been a great time to pop that pinch bolt out and put some anti-seize on it !!!!

For everyone flaming him for torque specs, yes..the axle bolt is supposed to be torqued on the ground then 180deg, but I think he's done so many of these repair on there b8 8.5 its second nature to him now.
I would trust em to work on my a5 anytime, God Bless Jared, keep up the good fight.

Couldn’t get the 4 triple square bolts off for the love of god. Drilled the bolts and tried to use a screw extractor. Nothing helped, ended up buying a new housing for all of it.

Do I need to break the center axle bolt loose to get my wheels off? I removed all 5 lug nuts (bolts on the Audi A5) but the damn wheel won’t come off. Am I missing something? I’m beginning to really hate this car…

    • @NaptownTuner
      @NaptownTuner  8 місяців тому

Search: how to remove a stuck wheel. I probably have one or two videos similar. Don’t feel bad though because I sold a guy a car and he called me on the side of the road because the AAA tow truck guy that came to help this guy put the spare on didn’t know & my customer had to call me and ask how to remove it. Stand facing away from it and donkey kick it, (with the bottom of your foot) if you don’t have any soft blow hammers or large pry bars. Make sure it’s supported with a heavy duty jack or set on a jack stand when you do this.

@@NaptownTuner wow that was a fast reply! Thank you! I’m actually going to be taking it to get new tires on Monday so I’ll let them deal with it. I was going to rotate them but the previous owner must have run them very low on pressure because the edges are worn much more than the center tread, and the inside edge of the front passenger tire is at the metal!
Thanks for all your videos. They’re quite helpful. I got scammed on this 2012 A5 I bought for my 17 year old son. The odometer had been rolled back about 100k miles (pink slip was altered and the smog certificate was fraudulent) and the Check Engine LED was knocked off of circuit board inside the gauge cluster. It’s got codes for running lean at idle and the low boost code (I know it’s the waste gate because I can hear it rattling and the car is at about 200k actual miles). If I had just hooked up my code reader to this thing before I bought it…
My plan was to just replace the timing chain to be on the safe side since I don’t know when it was done last. That was before I knew I had bigger problems on my hands.
      What a mess man! 😡
      Anyway, thanks again!

@@NaptownTuner I’m glad we have people like you who learn all the tricks for difficult repairs due to bad weather. In central California we don’t know what it REALLY means to have things stuck 😂. I’ve never had a sticky wheel in 20+ years of doing all my own maintenance. One of the few good things about California. Lord knows it ain’t the government, politicians or the laws!
