You know iv seen videos on UA-cam about “what weapon a giant would use” from shadiversity. Check it out. There’s some interesting points. A scythe, or a giant hampster ball. You mentioned that if expecting combat they will have a couple potions of healing. This is very handy thank you, I have an island in one of my games called Tempest Isle. A quiescent storm giant would be a great reason for there to be so many storms. There is an eladrin wizard on the island, perhaps they are old friends and the wizard is looking for a way to help the giant halt their own death? Perhaps seeking a way to extend their natural life.

Being one step below Titans, I’d expect any encounter with a Storm Giant to be the equivalent of conversing with a demigod. Beings that powerful barely recognize anything that doesn’t wield similar power. I can see some pathetic adventuring party crawling up the 5ft tall steps of a floating palace to grovel at the feet of a Storm Giant who’s flanked by two Storm Elementals and a air elemental Roc on a golden perch the dive of a redwood tree.
Hey AJ great stuff! Do you know offhand what the goals are for the storm Giants now that Annam has left Toril? Do they seek his return or are they spiteful of their missing father and mother? Do they seek the return of Ostoria or are they content to be left alone? Thanks again!
Storm giants have their attention on the outer planes (the planes of conflict) quite a lot, the exploits of the Titans, many see that as their destiny, to leave Toril, but, some do resent the smaller races somewhat, though they rarely express it, they turn a blind eye to the actions of less ethical Cloud giants and the bloodshed of the Frost giants. What all storm giants are more than a little alarmed about is the events of 1373 DR (only 120 years ago) when the lich Samaster ended the Dracorage mythal, which is a MAJOR event and upset of the status quo in the balance of power between them and the Dragons, who are now free to associate closely with each other as they have not done since the dominated the world 23507 years ago, when they ended to rule of the avian and amphibian creator races.
Ahhhh so they are a bit jealous of their superior Empyrian brethren, and dismissive of their lesser brethren, but as far as Toril goes they are worried about a Dragon resurgence due to the ending of the Mythal. It would seem that the Storm Giants would also be concerned with the Cult of the Dragon? Dracoliches would seem to be a potent foe. Thanks so much for the detailed response!
I have been toying with this idea, not related to giants but I'll post it here cause you might appreciate it. I think one of the problems in groups is that one player knows little of the background and motivations of the other characters. What about this: each player reads up about the country of origin, background, religion etc. of one other character?
How about this: "Campfire stories" There is a lot of time spent by the characters that players never actually play out. So each player could, whether physically or digitally, contribute one tale/exposition that their character shares with the party. You could have one player make one per game and then it´s the next players turn. So then these accounts are kept somewhere accessible to all players (this really is easiest in an online forum but there are watsapp chats and discord servers so it should not be a problem. This makes it more personal. You as the DM could then also put accounts of lore into the pot if the players might come across this info or if it might be common knowledge.
Flavor as many spells you can as lightning and storms, so spirit guardians is a lightning storm around you. Healing hand is like defibrillator. Guiding bolt is a lightning bolt. Deviation spells is listening to the weather. Summon celestial is a storm elemental. And so on. There will be clerical powers that are hard to explain why you have just because you are a storm giant but many of the can easily work. And perhaps make clear with you self if the goal is to approved by other giants or if you are trying to find new "family". And perhaps be a bit aloof and focused on future deviation over the now.
Just that, family groups, lineage, a family resemblance, that is all. You'd be in a very detailed giant focused campaign if such details were of great importance to the player characters.
Didn't know a storm giant could use their bow to fire a boulder down mid-air. If commanding weather wasn't enough to make you think twice about defeating one.
@@AJPickett I'm a fossil and I heard "Eldritch" often throughout my reading life. Recently, I am hearing it in AD&D and it seems the meaning has been altered for the game universe. What's it mean an AD&D? It used to mean mystical, cursed, elf (or their world, a fairyland of sorts, Neverland can apply too), fey, magical, and even (at times) ancient. Do any of those apply now?
@@AJPickett Imagine the clown shoes on a giant. I am imagining the screeching noise in the distance accompanied by an earth as it gets closer. A giant in colorful face paint is walking toward honking a red noise the size of a house. The squelching is deafening as the massive boat like shoes come flopping down on top of you...

The auditory range of the human ear is amplified to specifically pick up the frequency we speak at (this doesn't seem to apply to married couples in the 40 years of marriage range for some reason related to mental health). Giants ears don't pick up those frequencies the same way ours do, they can most likely pick up infrasound, so, they would hear the full range of communication of Elephants, which we can only hear with special equipment.
So if a storm giant female thought a human male was attractive would she give him a potion that makes them a huge creature so they could have a relationship? You know....for science.
"So if a human female thought a sprite male was attractive"... Let me stop you right there. If you want half giants in your game, do so, we don't need the play by play on it. DM's Fiat.
So people if you want a good aligned "monster" that might fight the player characters for not following customs of old, being a trespassing annoyance, or just don't know how to respect a race "clearly more superior than man" then here you go. Just remember they wouldn't want to outright kill the party and they are willing to work with them under the right reasons. Such as helping you kill a Dragon.
Check out his monster ecology videos about Ghosts and all the other monsters you might encounter in that adventure. Have a pen and paper handy, because you're going to get a lot of info😁

I was trying to find some inspiration or a certain species for a character that i'll be making before doing a concept art, and after some findings. I found this Video. Is it really alright to use the species for none-D&D purposes?
Good thing this didn't cover the Eberron storm giants. Otherwise it would have begun and ended at "they, like all other giants, are oversized degenerates who run around the jungle smashing things."
Wait, these guys look like giant humans, why? Then what came first storm giants or humans? Was the creation of one inspired by the creation of the other? Is it some sort of "convergent evolution" could humans in an of themselves be related to giants? What is the origins of humans in D&D any way? So many questions!
Humans are native to Toril in the lore, We know giants come from Annam, a transdimensional super being, and Othea, a minor demigod of unknown origin. I would not read to much into it really.. giants are that way because Folk-Lore says so :)
Also, if we take outside sources such as the Bible we can see that humans used to be giants. So in a homebrew setting you could have it where humans lost their stature as giants due to a curse put on them by their creator deity.
@@zacharygadzinski3147 In a homebrew world that my friend Iain and I created (Sithrune) the Goliath, Humans, and Halflings were all descended from giants, and the giants were dying out slowly, divine kings and queens who ruled from vast estates. The halflings, regarded as the dregs of their society, sought new opportunities and self-governance on the dangerous frontiers of the old continent. So yes, it certainly works as a world-building theme.

only 2000 to 4000 lbs. that not heavy enough, at all. what is a water buffalo like over 2000 lbs and a storm giant is 26 to 29 feet what??? lol. so they are popsicle sticks. An elephant can roll over a storm giant np. just use it weight. it weight alot more than a storm giant.

LOL, I know, I know, I cringed as soon as I heard how I said that, but, I thought it would slip by... ha ha... no chance.
@@PenDragonx I willfully fail my character's saving throw Vs fear.
@@AJPickett Clown Giants red nose:
When attuned it permanently affixes to you face. User must honk in order cast (8 charges)
(2) Dissonant Whispers
(2) Tasha's Hideous Laughter
(4) Fear
(6) Phantasmal Killer
Beautifully done.
These bastards will "accidentally" smite you with lightning and say "oops omg sorry, but that bird poop looked like a fish hook and I'm a Capricorn. It was fated to be lol".
That sounds plausible.
A giant that gets along with dragons? No wonder the ordining was ended.
Have you ever done a video on the Eldritch Giant since I wonder on their seemly hard to find lore.
I'm mean if they are in the 25ft range, they really aren't that big....they should be able to hear "small" folk just fine
@@AJPickett ahh, I see...that is a good point, sir.
Great video
Is this an update and when will you do forest gaints?
So if a storm giant female thought a human male was attractive would she give him a potion that makes them a huge creature so they could have a relationship? You know....for science.
potions ain´t permanent.
But true polymorph is close enough. Or shapechange.
Just has to be a PC with a high enough level.
@@sircastic959 maybe you just need the right ingredients :P
"So if a human female thought a sprite male was attractive"... Let me stop you right there. If you want half giants in your game, do so, we don't need the play by play on it. DM's Fiat.
Very interesting video
Thanks
ah the storm giant makes for a fantastic sage/oracle support npc for the heroes
So people if you want a good aligned "monster" that might fight the player characters for not following customs of old, being a trespassing annoyance, or just don't know how to respect a race "clearly more superior than man" then here you go. Just remember they wouldn't want to outright kill the party and they are willing to work with them under the right reasons. Such as helping you kill a Dragon.
Thanks AJ
Shocking!
I'll see myself out.....
The amount they weigh is off. A 6 foot tall human that is 200 pounds would weigh 12,800 pounds at 24 foot tall, if he was proportionate.
Elemental air magic.
AJ and his following just started playing a few months ago and I am preparing to DM ghosts of saltmarsh. Any recommendations on videos to watch?
All of them on this channel
Check out his monster ecology videos about Ghosts and all the other monsters you might encounter in that adventure. Have a pen and paper handy, because you're going to get a lot of info😁
Hey Antonio, put together a small list of things you might want to check out, hope this helps:

Fing Glorious
what is that music in the beginning?
That sounded like Mongolian throat singing. But old Norse or Icelandic would work in a pinch.
@@vectorshaman338 yes i can tell what genre the song belongs to but i wanna know the name of the song, and who made it.
@@sergeantsonso3490 it's a sample from another recording, made by ARES.
I’m playing a character in DND- a bard- who was adopted by storm giants
Well here's a powerful of the giant breeds Lester and like Titans but you got them saying
good video AJ
I was trying to find some inspiration or a certain species for a character that i'll be making before doing a concept art, and after some findings. I found this Video. Is it really alright to use the species for none-D&D purposes?
Sure
Love it
That sounds like slightly altered music from Diablo, Diablo 2 I believe
Yep
@@AJPickett absolutely love that. Many an hour I would click back and forth from diablo to homework, with that playing in the background. 👍
Absolutely epic giant righ’chea
28’ tall, using a great sword sized for them, so ~20’ long, but with a 10’ reach? That should be more like 30’ reach considering they have the same proportions as humans.
Well shoot, they're just adventure in a can, aren't they?
First! Go team insomnia!
Lol
In my country it's 12:26 in THE MOOORNIIIINF
AJ, don't you know it's not polite to discuss a lady's weight?
Think you got the weight waaaaay wrong
Not first ☺️
🖤
AJ, will you be my DM?
I'm everyone's DM :)
Eww the reversed knees things gives me body horror squeamishness. Jackals don't have backwards knees, heck I don't know of any animal that does. Those "knees" are its ankles.
Correct
Second
only 2000 to 4000 lbs. that not heavy enough, at all. what is a water buffalo like over 2000 lbs and a storm giant is 26 to 29 feet what??? lol. so they are popsicle sticks. An elephant can roll over a storm giant np. just use it weight. it weight alot more than a storm giant.
wiki says 15000 lbs but 2000 ok
9:56 did... Did you just say "clown giants"? I've heard of a clown species but... WAT!?
You thought you knew the meaning of fear...
