  • Remastered Giants Series, the Titans are the highest ranking in the Ordning of the true giants, however, they don't dwell on the world of Toril anymore. In this video, we discuss what they are, how big and impressive they are, what stats to use for them in your dungeons and dragons tabletop roleplaying games and where they are typically encountered, as well as the legacy they left behind, waiting to be discovered by adventurers.

    I really feel like it would be a great idea for a campaign to play a character or a small group of adventurers who have been prophesied to refound Ostoria, maybe have a Goliath, or a Firbolg in there, and just go all over the world collecting Giants in a large army to follow you and maybe travelling to Arborea or Warrior's Rest to get the blessing of the Titans. Thoughts?

    I was just about to log off UA-cam and game until I get blackout drunk... you interrupted that. Not a complaint.
    Again, giants in that world, I say, are lovingly akin to Nordic gods of this Earth. Great video AJ, such delicious mind candy.
    I used Titans (now "Empyreans") not so rarely in my campaigns, I'm a 2nd Ed dinosaur. The guide has shown that they were all unique and the stats were a template. Also, each one had a rather unique godlike power relative to that particular Titan. I kept in mind that they are Demigods of the Giants (not directly addressed in AD&D but more implied as a demigod race of giants). I had them all primarily reside on Olympus (or whatever it is called now) but they dwelled in all the non-Lawful non-Evil planes as their other outer-planar realms. When the descended to the Prime Material plane, it was usually out of boredom but ultimately super-important on the Prime Material plane and that Titan's current mood. I kept in mind the specific godlike power that is unique to each Titan. They are perfect pseudo-god antagonists or even patrons/matrons of quests. If you play Ultima, having a Titan form of Lord Brittish would have been a good one. My last Titan was Thanatos, he had power over life and death and his favorite curse was immortality. He could cancel any attempt to raise the dead if he can see you, anyone he slays cannot be raised from the dead, and he can call anyone from their final resting place into the plane he is in with a new body. If you attack him, you must save vs. death or die and that he can opt to not do at any moment. With a wave of his hand, anything undead that he sees turns to dust (corporeal) or nothing (non-corporeal). The God of Death's clergy (in a secret pact with a powerful lich the clergy is also an enemy to) recruited the heroes to confront Thanatos. The mission had more twists than old attic-stored Christmas lights.

    • @AJPickett
      @AJPickett  4 роки тому +1

      Yeah, in my view you are playing titans exactly as they were intended to be played.

      @@AJPickett Thanx, bro. That's high praise coming from you. And yes, I did steal Thanatos's name off of a god of death in a mythology never referenced in AD&D (at least not at the time). Well, I think the mythology might have been used but not their god of death.

    • @AJPickett
      @AJPickett  4 роки тому +8

      Annam's last legitimate son was Hartkiller, he was rejected by the other True Giants because he was a runt by their standards, standing a mere 12 feet tall. He did have a half giant, half human son called Brun (who, in my games, is the ancestor of the Goliath race on Toril). Hartkiller died at the end of the War of the Hart in a battle that last 100 days against a mighty storm giant.

    Regarding diet, goat is very lean. I've butchered dozens of them. All told 4 to 6 lbs fat per goat is about your harvest. Better to use lard, titans could raise pigs like we raise rats or mice. And since we raise alligator for meat, I imagine titans might raise dragons for me at if they could get away with it. Interesting backdrop for a campaign, pc's quested to free dragons from a titan meat farm. Thank you AJ! How does that Titan origin mesh with the Dragon Magazine article that talks about the Titans being beloved by the gods until they tried to create their own races and fought a war with the gods causing most to be scattered and some to be imprisoned in Carceri including Chronos who's trapped in an illusion spell in which he's successfully killing all of the gods and once he kills the last illusory god he'll realize it's all an illusion, break free and then probably start killing the gods for real.

    • @AJPickett

    • @RedNZBlue
      @RedNZBlue 4 роки тому +5

      @@ricardopenamcknight6407 I checked the article in question, and it has no bearing on Forgotten Realms lore. The general consensus for FR canon is best described below:
      -Descriptions of races, deities, weapons, cultures, etc. that appear in generic D&D publications that don't specifically mention the Realms (or call themselves out as applying to all members of a race/religion across all worlds) are not canon for the Realms. They can help inform the reader, players, or DMs, but the setting isn't bound by them.
      This was discussed in-depth by the sages of Candlekeep Forums, and I think they should apply to this video also.
      So yeah, different races, same name.

    So titans reproduce like mortals and at a pretty fast pace for immortals, so at one point they could just outnumber all other outer planar beings. Or am I misunderstanding things? I think I’m bad at grasping infinity.

    • @AJPickett
      @AJPickett  4 роки тому +4

      I said nothing about the pace of their population growth, and they can die by violence, on a number of outer planes that are notoriously full of peril, the pace of reproduction for immortal beings is typically very slow, also, considering their children are raised over 50 years, it would be centuries between the births of siblings.

    1. I had no idea that titans were in the 5e Monster Manual under 'Empyrean', until just now. Totally missed that, somehow. I may have to revise the homebrew 5e conversion of Zadara from Planescape that I made a few weeks back (or maybe not... I was fairly proud of my work on that one and, looking at the 5e version, I like mine better lol).
    2. I'm sort of surprised that AJ didn't mention Zadara on this video.

    This made me think of 2 things, the first was I just recently rediscovered the Giants book from the 70's, I'm sure you know the one I mean & I'm finishing the series by Ed McDonald called the Raven's Mark that you would probably love. Its about these powerful people called the Nameless who fight against evil beings called the Deep Kings. In the beginning, you learn that last time Crowfoot, one of the Nameless, used a weapon that created a no man's land called the Misery. Lots of dark magic & bizarre effects in the Misery. In the last book they need the heart of a sort of titan, a world snake frozen in some crazy lake.

    OK, so I don't do this, but I'm doing it, I'm interested on your take/ a video about the calamity dragons from 4e, I don't remember there being much, but I love the idea behind them and am reaching out to show them some love. (There is even an updated list of them for 5e on the DM's guild.)
    I really like the videos anyway and don't mind if you don't do anything on them, just thought I'd try.

    A Goliath sits in a sweat lodge, searching for guidance. As the heat rises and the sweat rolls off like tiny waterfalls. He slips into a fevered dream. Where his met by 2 Titans. Asking him to play a game with them. As they have a bet between the two. The bet is to go and seek out the fabled kingdom of Osteria. We titans can't interfere with this. The most help we can offer is the reseeding of the ice sheets to help your travels. But your travels must start off this mountain and in the low lands. For even the lesser beings can offer help.
    If you find this kingdom. It's yours. As a prize for playing this game. If you give up or perish, the game is over and you get nothing.
    Do we have a accord, Master Goliath??

    Now with both this and the empyreans video i can get to ironing out afew things as i world build. 🛠⚙🧱🔩🗜🌍 The radiant dragons video is something i'm looking forwards too - Also Mrrhexx is doing an intresting series on elven high magic. 🧝‍♂️✨🧝‍♀️ Although you're probably already watching it. I've got videos on two channels to catch up with now - besides poping on the occasional Mrrhexx vid & don't even get me started on world avils stuff... 📚⚖😰 D&D content is starting to become like one of those liberaries you get with a mansion - that are so vast, you know that you'll never finish reading it... XD Well besides the idea of a devil mannaging to conscript a bunch of titans into fighting as their personal regiment in the blood war completely against their own free will and volition, with their only negative catch being that they have to avoid the personal grasping crush attempts by their own politle little big "mountain cracker" soldiers. As the elioquently curse them out as the realitively evil flying thorny over grown fairy they appear to be. 😈🧚‍📑 Besides that, i feel abit(alot) snobbish about sindarin when i look at quenya. And besides that too. I have this burning question in my mind - about D.N.A. planar lore - since nymphs are spawned by natural beauty & the clock work nirvana of mechanus is "naturally beautifull" would there then thus be vast prisons of natively chaotic nymphs locked up for all the lawfull reasons? Cos if there were, you could subvert the damsel in distress trope, with the - "wemen are the chaotic appocalypse." theme, that alot of peps alude too. I'm asking for the D&D planar wheel?

    I wouldn't look at a 10ft tall creature and say "wow what a giant!" So I make Giants actually giant. A Hill Giant starts at 15ft and a Storm Giant caps at 75ft. So I assume a Titans would be 100+ft

    ok so the titans from D&D are the same as the greek myth. Their is a cronus and he gave birth to zeus and the gods ? So the gods are giant-kin ??? Lenaxis is the father of the titans. Then wth are the gods ??? Also is an empyean, just the titans that live in arborea ? and why does nobody have a video on it. Is the myth of the nephilim just the greek gods.

      There are 3 " titans" in dnd the empyrean is close enough but they aren't always annams kids for an example any god can father and empyrean but they are so similar to titans the stats work super well. Annams titans are different in a weird roundabout way as the empyreans aren't "giants" the titans are. And then there are elder titans which are possibly the most powerful race in dnd with a minimum cr of 30 and yes Cronus is one of these
