I reckon I could sleep through a depth charge attack, as long as I was sleeping before it started. I don't even wake up for thunder storms. Mum: Gee that storm was bad last night, wasn't it? Me: Huh? Mum: Didn't you hear it Me: Nope
Explorer! The first one isn't a tower, it's an explorer! Explorers are the only Empire-type merchants with the thin third mast in the middle. Towers have the short, thick masts on the aft of the ship, and Bells have neither.
First time seen being depth charged in this game. Faces need a less polish: Their faces are glossy like being coated with silicone lubricant. Yes, I'm aware of crew being sweaty.
The Naval Academy is a good reward. If you have extra officers you can rotate them through which gives them increased knowledge and skills. The HQ officer is useful too as he can often help to complete tasks to gain new upgrades if I remember.
Historical notes (may not be implemented in the game) - the echolot is pretty safe. If they are a klick or two away, they will not hear the high frequency (fades out very quickly in water) ping directed downwards. Triggering it while they are listening intently in your direction (remember: each ASDIC is also a hydrophone) might be less than ideal. - gyrocompass: This is your only means of reliably knowing where north is - magnetic compasses do not take well to all the metal and steel, even with as many corrections as you can add. It takes some hours to align itself, and its noise is low to none. It would be one of the last things to be shut off - if at all. You’d turn off the motor-generators converting DC voltages and generating all kinds of AC as well before that. Besides, when they ping you successfully, they already know where you are. ASDIC at that time of war would be “seeing” up to 2000 yards, later it would in ideal conditions work to 3-4000 yards, but contact would break usually around 300 yards from the target, especially with deeper diving subs. At typical speeds of 15 knots (about the maximum speed where ASDIC stayed usable) the 300m to cross would be around 36s. Of course, if one ship pings the other can sneak over you or come at you at high speeds … Depth charges are going down at 3-5m/s at that time, so they’d take an additional 20s to get to 100m, so you might have 56s after contact is lost to put the engines to full and avoid the pattern. This is not so good with hedgehogs and mortar launched depth charges.
Nice to see you installed some of my mods ;) I'll be fixing the "Default" image showing in the ID book, I think that comes from new categories introduced in Link's ship bundle not being taken into account properly.
Im happy this game got a full release at some point, giving you the chance to do a full run without the test build changing, even if the game is still a little bare bones
the way the game worked, setting 27 meters exactly made it so that morale is not affected and the periscope is not manned. no radars can pick you up ever also but I won't speak for very late war anti sub tech.
I've had huge success in the Western approaches to the point I've gone back the Breast to reload to get back out to sink more. The high value officer is well worth the difficulty for the benefits he provides. Good hunting
12:35 It was because of how close you were to the last ship you hit. Minimum arming distance still isn't fully safe and does (very)minor damage but it still flags you to check. If the torpedo didn't go in a straight line you can end up being under the arming distance. Did that once and it actually caused flooding.
I'm pretty sure Uboat commanders back then were like "Ah don't bother me with this book, it's an Empire Something 100-110m and iI'll shoot all tubes at it, 15 degree spread, whatever as long as one hits" "Herr Kaleu, the only torpedo that hit was dud" "FICK!!!"
My favorite current series. Love seeing different missions, what was the locked one?! Passage of Gibraltar?! And what was this naval academy?? U should do a deeper dive of the games content/mechanics! And show them off
I just came across a convoy 26 ships, they were all stopped or going slow facing diffarant directions, seemed like they were forming up to get into a convoy.Never saw that in game before.
Wolfpack, you are a torpedo crack-shot! Very impressive fast thinking. Pretty intense depth charge patterns dropped on you, but you masterfully gave them the slip! Live to fight another day. Very much love your Silent Hunter and UBOAT videos. Will look forward for the next one.
Appreciate the use of Atlantic Fleet music(knew i recognized it from somewhere before)Not sure if you added it in yourself or it came with one of the mods you installed. Aleksi Aubry-Carlson's composed for so many naval warfare games at this point it's practically became his speciality
If you do start a new playthrough, please do a Type VII. The short range, low speed, and lack of a deck gun means every engagement in the Type II is more or less the same. It's like playing an SSK in Cold Waters - certainly more challenging, but also much less interesting.
Don't forget in your forward supply cabinet there should be some coffee, if not WHY NOT ??!!😀Get your officers to consume a couple of them and they will gain some energy. Essential if you go into battle just after a shift change.
Love these episodes. The only minor thing I'd comment on is that the background music volume is a shade too high. Yes, I know it's there to add dramatic effect to theh game, but it can slightly overpower some of the audio effects. Sometimes, silence can elicit a more ominous atmosphere in-game than music.
Damn! looks like I really need to play in first person more! I usually have been in the orbit cam when getting depth charged but this is so much better, super immersive and nerve wracking!
How to best stay undetected once the warships spot you? I have been hunting quite a few big convoys now, and i usually end up wasting eels sinking warships instead of cargoships just to defend myself
Funny coincidence :) I'm also right now on board of Type IID, named U-137, with same camo, same emblem, in same Celtic Sea (a bit to north, grid BF12) and just spotted a convoy of =>13. I swear I did not make it up! :D It's November 1939 tho. Also, I highly recommend "Sounds Of War" mod, it brings a ton of very immersive sounds to the boat, especially at depth.
I highly recommend you uninstall that trash game you have no idea how buggy that game is. The mods for it are lame as hell just go to the negative reviews for the game and have a read educate yourself.
You can actually use the echosounder. If you simply left click it, they won't detect but it can measure only up to 150 metres. If you need to measure deeper, then you have to Ctrl+click it. That one however they can hear
Even with strong bulkheads - remember the Kursk. There is only so much you can do, and you need air pipes, cables, high-pressure pipes, … all passing through.
Hay....can you go over what your two Preference Settings are now....and how your Crew, Officer's, and Boat and Task Schedule are? I suspect with Mods it's changed.

Simultaneous hits on two targets. Extremely well executed.

I was going to comment that as well. The tower is so easy to identify, I'm surprised.
These Explorers are often the juiciest preys early on too.easy 6k GRT to the bottom generally.
12:20 Surely the boss move for the captain here was to go to bed.
attack successful, plot a course to disengage! while you make the boat dive deeper, I'm diving to bed, wake me up after we escape
I admit but I have a question about aerial reconnaissance because I searched for it but I don't know how to use it could someone help me please

very sweaty :-)
those prankster engineers, swapping out the lotion with engine lubricants!

The double torpedo hit on the two ships was incroyable! With the camera angle as well it looked so sick, you've outdone yourself on this one.
Really enjoying this play through. It's a must watch when a new episode pops up.
Can you list the mods you use bro, as your game seems so much better and more immersive 🙏🏼
