I like my black metal original, innovative and creative. Sadly, 99% of black metal gets stuck in cringeworthy infantile clichés. Music is an artform and should go beyond outward posing and being a medium for (political) ideology and propaganda.
Doesn't exist because everyone calls this band woke or whatever. These kids definitely care. If you complain about any political band whether left (usually what is complained about) or right leaning then you do care. When we were kids we said that shit but we knew we actually gave a fuck.
Wtf does a real metalhead even mean? Not calling out nazi or nazi adjacent bands? What qualifies as a real metalhead to you? The fact that you would even have “rules” for what qualifies someone as a “real” metalhead is inherently very un-metal.
Yeah the genre about killing angels and banging nuns has to be pc now apparently. Could you imagine how sad a pc version of belphegor for instance would be?
No original black metal was about not conforming to old religious traditions. Which could come from any place. A lot of the old black metal musicians also didn’t like that it had conformed into Neo Nazi ideologies which they would call out as well because ie how can you go play places when people just assumed you were racist. Also if Black metal roots came from Crust punk many Crust punk bands where actually were in line with SHARPS or Oi punks, Oi punks where not racist they were against the conservative punk rock movement who would dress nice and where racist in the 70’s. Crust punk is what gave you Gothic/ Emo punk of the 80’s as well. Crass was anti government, anti religion, anti war, anti racist and anti pop punk which is why they are one of the best punk bands
Punk gave birth to Post Punk which birthed Goth and then from that came other subgenres of Goth Rock such as Darkwave, Deathrock, Coldwave, Ethereal Goth. None of us Goths or Deathrockers would be welcome in this BM scene nor would we want to be as we're left leaning and not the edgy apolitical type of subculture. We listen to Darkwave, Goth Rock, Deathrock. I just want to play music, dance and have a drink. I also like Crass. You might like G.I.S.M., Icons Of Filth, Amebix, Aus Rotten if you are into Crust and that Anarcho Punk. As For Goth I recommend Lebanon Hanover, Kaelan Mikla, Drab Majesty, Selofan, London After Midnight, Saiph, Secret Shame, Rose garden Funeral Party, Twin Tribes. For Deathrock, Bat Nouveau, Tears For The Dying, Virgin In Veil, Christian Death. All I can think of at the moment.
@@vincentmomont7538It's because people have more access to communicate with people. We didn't have social media when I was a teenager in the early 2000s. It was only forums, chatrooms and instant messenger. I'm glad the kids are more aware. I do feel that critical thinking should be relied on instead of binge watching some guy on TikTok telling you to be alpha or whatever nonsense.

Until your favorite band espouses a radical ideology antithetical to your values and entire way of life. They might still listen to the music but they obviously don't want to wear their merchandise with radical political symbols that they don't believe in plastered on it. Separating the art from the artist and still enjoying their art is one thing, wearing and promoting the artists radical views is quite another.
do you though? I'm way too young to have had black metal adjacent friends in the 90s, i'm only 36. from everything i've read it was a very highly politically charged atmosphere in all of their cities regardless of metal or not and this by proximity influenced their bands.
@@goatsun1300 You talk as if the bands were brave "barbarians" fighting the Holy Roman Empire. In reality, some churches got burned, few guys were arrested, and what happened next? This is not the first time that I've seen band who is anti-fascist or pro-lgbt or just humanist in any way under fire for the same things that they stand against and it's fucking ridiculous. I do love the new wave of black metal bands who are very accepting of all people no matter who they are (besides actually nsbm bullshit) and stand up for everyone regardless of race or orientation. Black metal should be anti-religious and it shouldn't matter what color you are or who you love because that literally has nothing to do with the way that you act and conduct yourself in modern society. The enemy is religious laws and regulation, period. But it's ridiculous whenever shit like this happens it makes all new black metal look stupid to some. But I would say those people don't even matter.

Cant believe BM and metal in general has gotten soo pc. This genre isn't for everyone so if you are easily offended and are sensitive to certain topics/themes then maybe this genre of music isn't for you.
This sort of thing really is ridiculous. Playing in a country doesn’t equal supporting their government’s policy, just like a lot of people living there don’t support it.

@martindeviantxiii Yeah, that's pretty much how people are these days. A person can't have an opinion publicly without being labeled a nazi by the left and antifa by the right (sometimes even in the same conversation, lol). I think people just don't like feeling embarrassed about being wrong or learning something new, and instead of having an actual dialogue, just call people the worst thing they know. They try their best to dress it up with pseudo intellectual nonsense, but at the end of the day all these debate weirdos just want to hear others say what they want them to.
I'm graduated in Sociology and yes, I'm a huge fan of black metal and yeah, sometimes it was and it is a fucking pain in the ass when I have to deal with these ''extremely'' politicized colleagues that I have in the academy. I always felt slayer was anti war especially with songs like expendable youth. They made a lot of great points that america is usually an agressor or warmonger. I interperted eagle in the abyss as america shrouded in darkness for all the failed foreign wars that brought shame to the country. They've never been shy about condemning contemporary american society. I guess you need to make a statement these days saying hey guys we love everyone! Lets all hold hands and hug each other! Lol
@@andrewlikesmetal1095 Slayer are anti-war, but they wrote lyrics like a documentary. Describing the horror and atrocities from a more objective news reporter's view without being too emotional or even pathetic. They were accused for beings Nazis because of "Angel of Death" about Josef Mengele. Of course they're not and if people could read between the lines, they would see that there's a strong rejection of the deeds even though the lyrics are graphic and descriptive. On their later albums the lyrics became much more anti-US policy and world hegemony. Slayer have never been Nazis. Or satanists for that matter. The early "evil" lyrics, logos and pictures were all for shock value.

@@chris21477 a bit of a strange point of view, and quite an erroneous one as well. First of all, fascism and nazism are very specific political ideologies, inherently built on intolerance and hatred against others. Opposing intolerance does not make you yourself intolerant, much less so a fascist. But let’s call things for what they are: a few radicals regrettably made a band cancel a gig. It’s not like everyone who considers themselves ‘anti-fascist’ collectively called for it. In fact, most anti-fascists agreed that it was totally ridiculous and unwarranted. The designer of the festival poster even asked for his artwork and his support to be withdrawn and he is very outspoken antifa(scist).

Boris, mate, Anti-Fa originally was the Communist version of the Nazi SA (Sturmabteilung), created to break opponent rallies (just like the SA) and fight each other. The point about the rift between left-wing (international) socialists and right-wing (nationalist) socialists was that they fought for the votes from the same base - blue-collar workers. It is a historically well-known fact that the ordinary membership of both KPD (German communists) and NSDAP (Nazis) frequently fluctuated between these two parties, before the Nazis came to power. That is, many an SA brownshirt thug has previously been a member of KPD, and many a KPD member a former Nazi. The reasoning for this is simple: the opposite of Nazism is the Centrist position (the moderate, political center); the opposite of Communism is, again, the Centrist position. Nazism and Communism are __NOT__ the opposite of each other, they are maybe the closest political positions. Hell, both you and I come from a former Yugoslavia where ex-communists quickly changed their attire and became hard-core nationalists. In this "change of clothes" they didn't change their autocratic, anti-democratic, hater-of-freedoms, hater-of-different-opinion, collectivist and statists doctrines - they just made this tiny step to drop internationalism and embrace nationalism. How so? Easy, if you don't think of a political spectrum as a straight line with extreme left on one end and the extreme right on the other. Rather think of a political spectrum as a circle. The center position is some point on the circle. Both extreme left and extreme right are neighboring points on the other side of the circle from the centrist point. From the extremist position, no matter if it's left or right, to the centrist position you need to pass half a circle. From one extremist position to the other is the tiniest part of a circle.
The difference between ultra right and ultra left is that ultra left hate those who are rich while ultra right hate those who are of another nationality/colour etc. But the problem is that a rich one can easily be assimilated among communists whilst he admits the rules and laws of those (there were lots of ex-nobles in Soviet Russia who agreed with communist agenda) while not sees never admit a black/brown/yellow foreigner nevermind if he shares the not sees rules and laws or not. So commie be like: if you admit our ideas you're welcome nevermind your race/ethicity/religion/social background. Not sees be like: if you admit our ideas and you're white - you're welcome, if you admit our ideas but not white - you must suffer
It's because of the label and band members' previous membership in NSBM bands but I think they just don't care about what nonsense others believe in and are not actual nazis themselves.

Metal is supposed to be rebellious and not giving a damn about authority or norms. It’s about pushing boundaries and being extreme (artistically). No room for political correctness and wokeness imo.
"Wokeness" is explicitly about awareness of systematic injustice, not pathetic nazi cucks on twitter whining about the skin color of a fictional mermaid. It sure wasn't about being a fascist. Those kids in the 90s in Scandinavia definitely went too far. And I'm not talking about the burning of churches.
@@gia_d26 Exactly, I think it’s because we’re in 2024
No original black metal was about not conforming to old religious traditions.

That's right
The difference between ultra right and ultra left is that ultra left hate those who are rich while ultra right hate those who are of another nationality/colour etc.

Thank you Boris, you're on point as always. Sending love from down under in New Zealand 🖤 🤘
It`s so stupid. I despise antifa. I remember a guy was disappointed with me when I was on a compilation that had some questionable projects. I think it was more than 30 bands/projects involved. Should I go and check em all ? It`s crazy
Also, as a pagan, I’m tired of our symbols being used as white supremacy symbols. Tired of being called a racist
FOR REAL
@@claynesbit7552 the opinions of those screeching "racist" don't matter, they are deranged degenerates.
Tired of being called? Just don't listen
This comment, yes. Never hesitate to capitalize Pagan. A way of life of peace and love of nature.
@@MetalSeasSiren Paganism is so often misunderstood and seen as satanic or otherwise evil, when in reality it's one of the most peaceful types of faith
Boris, hails from California. Just wanted to say that your videos are the fucking best. Not only are they hilarious, but your points are always spot-on. My wife and I love the channel, and even if we're having a shitty day we'll watch your content for a good laugh. Horns up to you.
Hahaha, remember when Mgla was being cancelled in Germany for NSBM accusations? First thing they did was catch a flight to Israel to portray the opposite.... How the tables turned eh?
Anyways I can't wait to see Impaled Nazarene at Brutal Assault, Gonna bang my head to Ghettoblaster. Hope they play Zero Tolerance too, fingers crossed 🤞
Fun Fact:
Afsky means Disgust in Danish.
Don’t Like it? Don’t listen and stay the hell out of such countries, if you don’t agree! What is so hard to understand?
I had tickets to that Marduk show in Oakland, I was so pissed it got canceled and even more pissed when I found out why.
It's called Antifascist Black Metal Gathering for a reason. It's supposed to be left-wing and political. Make it make sense.
I think Boris really does like to listen to music without politics, but almost everyone in the comments is taking “music without politics” to mean “music with my politics”.
People who are saying, “metal should be anti-woke” or “not pc”. That would be bringing politics into it. Fuck off.
If you want to listen to music like that go ahead, but don’t lie and say it’s not political
To be fair, I think there’s a difference between being “anti-woke” and being “anti-pc”. One is supportive of bigotry and the other is simp,y supporting freedom of thought. You can avoid one while still keeping the other, believe it or not.
Its pretty ironic that anti fascist fan base is trying to cancel a band because they went and played for the Jews 😂😂😂
I love how you say "fuck" (3:00), then bleep "fascist" a few seconds later. 😂💀
UA-cam is funny like that.
What happened to black metal??? Wtf is this😂 I would not even call any of these bands black metal.
A new generation of black metal snowflakes bands for the "modern audience".😅😂🤣
What, you want them to go back to pretending to be very badass by doing cosplay in hockey gear? Who cares man, it was all fake poser nonsense to begin with, the music is the only thing that matters.
@@RoguSpanish I rather have them cosplay in hockey gear than listen to their political correct nonsense to be honest. There was a time before the internet. You bought black metal records and there was mysticism around the bands that is lost now. Nobody gave a shit about politics or other nonsense. Black metal lost it's integrity a long time ago thanks to people like in these bands. As Fenriz once said. You got to have the blues to play blues.
@@RoguSpanish What black metal band is wearing hockey gear? But yes if i have to choose i prefer 100 times a badass cosplay from a political correct nonsense in my music! But i guess it is a trend now everything to be political. The only weapon is our wallet to stop that shit.
Best thing about canceling artists is that you really don't need to do any research or even think. I mean, who would care to? Just ask your feel or do what social media says
I think 99.9% of the time people just want something to hate and be mad at. Because no matter how many times a band or person disproves accusations or even like admits that at one point they were like that but saw the error of their ways and changed as a person, its just not enough. You will forever be deemed this horrible person, these people do not care if they are wrong and they do not care if you change as a person, they will hate you no matter what. Pure shit hivemind mentality.
It's not good enough for them and it never will be. There's plenty of people on the left that still hate wesboro baptist church members who left or people who were part of hate groups who left just because they didn't become leftist or some shit. Personally I think them leaving those groups to live normal lives with ok beleifs should be celebrated. It's a net positive to have people grow and become less shitty. A lot of bands start as teenagers and at that age do some stupid stuff offering no redemption whatsoever leads to people just getting further entrenched in dumb veiws
On the good side: used to have rainbow stickers.
On the bad side: Let some very sketchy bands (Skaur from DTB and Sakrista) play at his own festival (Pest Fest Copenhagen) and apparently threw a little tantrum when Antifa guys pointed out that that's not cool. Played with Akhlys and threw a little tantrum when Antifa guys pointed out that that's not cool. Used some unfortunate wordings around the Hamas attack in Israel and threw a little tantrum when Antifa guys pointed out that that's not cool. Decided to cut ties with Vendetta and accused Stefan of doing shady business stuff.
I dont care if you are "political hater" or "neutral" but some of their attitudes are very SKETCHY
Great post, thanks BorisT! Also, I love Bolzer, I remember when crap about them came up and reading his post.
I checked out your first album and it is so good. And I finished the second album. To be honest I am more into atmospheric/depressive Black but your music is just that good. Love the drums there. Full of energy. I expected just a standard Black albums, I would listen and think: yeah, nice Black Metal album and then forget about it. But some melodies stuck in my mind. And tet again, the drums are amazing.
We should honestly cancel cancel culture, it's the most stupid thing of our century just after certain dictators/similar power hungry idiots. Saying this as an 18 year old mid-left german btw
What dictator is that? Oh the same one from Germany who actually tried to f'ing STOP all this LGBTQ and DEI bs? That guy? Bruh, time to grow tf up and learn the truth. Watch Europa The Last Battle. They lied to your f'ing face lol.
as a Palestinian anarchist metalhead i say black metal is for everyone. also i know some pro-Palestinian bands that played in Israel and that's totally fine bc music is for everyone and anyone, and btw I went to bm concerts in occupied Palestine Aka Israel.
5:18 exactly! The double standards !
So if black metal is about rebellion against authority, then it is EXACTLY the place for wokeness, because if you're on the side of fascism, you're not rebelling against authority, you want to BE the authority.
No Black metal is about lgbtqia
You guys can finally do away with all that black and start expressing yourself in rainbows and unicorns now that would be metal 😂
@@Person0fColorisn’t that what power metal and traditional heavy metal already are though?
Do you know what wokeness actually is though?
To say it is ridiculous would be an understatement. And it is so absurd that bands are forced into this just because some awfully stupid people can't google for 5 mins.
13:17 yeah, rededit. they say on the lastfm board that i'm a nah sea too.
I bet they hate centrists that don't support either ideology because both sides are too extreme. Especially in the metal scene like black metal nowadays.
Gen Z doesnt care, they want to police the world. lol
You will be pulled to either the far left, or far right. Globalism is making sure of that lol.
Spoiler: they do.
this guy is the type of metalhead I wish to be friends with. A reasonable human being
Love the little Rainbow at the end of texts
....
yeah Ffffffffff ck Politics man and thank you for showing an image of that Blue haired Metal Valkyrie
Afsky are brilliant live and genuinely nice people. Saw them not so long ago. I saw the same with Kanonenfieber recently because they are singing about the horrors of WW1 from a germans perspective people asking "are they fascist/far right?" No. Actually read the lyrics and interviews.
Well they should be far right, because Germany was 100% fkd over by Globalism bs, and the more you know about that, the better off you'll be when the same sht happens in the West. Watch "When Nations Fall:Echoes of Weimar Republic" FULL version and "Europa The Last Battle"
Yeah lol the anti war band is fascist apparently. God people are so stupid
these kinds of people always end up turning on each other.
Morgan says it all in this clip
Being cancelled is the new meta. Fuck woke culture
Just let them discover about most of the 90's bands...
