    So with a 7962, how do you upload the patched firmware to the FreePBX TFTP? I'm a bit lost. And also is that ringtone Ashens saying hello?

    Do I need to download a firmware and copy it to my router's flash so as to load it to the phone? Or can the phone work fine out of the box , just configure the router & switch?

    Nice installation, I'm going though it... How did you get it to work like that? Did you go through centos installation + Asterisk patched and then Freepbx or what? Thanks.. I'm trying to build an asterisk server from scratch to use with my Cisco 7975G and 7961G phones.

      Glad you liked it. I took the lazy(ish) method of just having a regular FreePBX distro (IncrediblePBX I think) and then patched it. caused a few issues as FreePBX and the Patch seem to both overwrite some config files in asterisk.
      If I am being 100% honest it is not worth the effort for a simple system. only did it because I wanted to have the BLF for a day/night route status. The phones will work 90% on a simple bare asterisk install only missing the intercorm, blf and the ability to pickup the phone for other extensions etc

    • @MarcoDominici
      @MarcoDominici 7 років тому +1

      What I'd really need is the conferencing and the BLF. I guess the only way is to use that patch right? I've tried to patch and follow the wiki (wiki.freepbx.org/display/FOP/Cisco) for this, but I just can't understand how to configure the phones in FreePBX. Let me explain... after I patched, and edited the additional conf files I will need to add the extensions in FreePBX but I just can't get which context I have to add them and where to add some info needed. Do you have some usefull links or guide to follow by chance? thanks a lot. ;)

    • @bluntlab
      @bluntlab  7 років тому

      Adding the extensions is relatively easy. in freepbx create an extension (SIP not pjsip) as normal.
      Then assuming you followed this part wiki.freepbx.org/display/FOP/Cisco#Cisco-sip_custom_post.conf
      You should just add the extension number at the bottom (adding the subscribe values for the extensions you want to see BLF status for so I used a subscibre *something for the feature code for the day/night switch thing)

      Ok.. I did everything as shown there. Which firmware version r u using? Cause my phones keep trying to register then after a few minutes they just restart. No error on the status message in the phone but it seems like they don't even send anything to asterisk. I tried to enable debug .. but no message. Could you share a working SEP file?

    • @bluntlab

      Sure
      gist.github.com/adamxp12/dac18b8969c242345118bacec4693e6a
      just replace some values like ASTERISK_SERVER with the IP of your server ofc
      and EXT_NUMBER, EXT_SECRECT_MAX_8_CHARS and finally NTP_SERVER_OR_ASTERISK
      That config file has taken years of trial and error to create and works super reliably on 7911, 7941, and 7971 phones. Also should use the latest firmware which I have got here if you need it cisco.server.adamxp12.com/files/IPPhone/SIP/latest/
      Reason is that the latest firmware allows a proxy value of USECALLMANAGER which is required for the phones to register in recent versions of asterisk

    I may be getting some Cisco phones soon can you tell me what to do to set these phones up and make them make calls please?

    • @bluntlab
      @bluntlab  5 років тому

      I do not plan on doing any videos on asterisk especially with the Cisco 7900 phones. While you can make them work its not worth the hassle as they never work right and the video would just generate loads of confused people as these phones have a mind of their own and the SIP firmware is kinda rubbish
      I have a video series on Cisco Callmanager which is prob more complicated than most people would want to go through for such an old phone but it would get the phones making internal phone calls. though I have not done any more videos on that to cover external phone calls
      If you want to get a newer Cisco phone like a 7800/8800 then you should have better luck with Asterisk if you can get a 3PCC model which can be configured with ease for asterisk
      Hope that helps

    • @microsoftwindowslover8346
      @microsoftwindowslover8346 5 років тому

      Ok, it did help so if I get the old phones like yours it will be more complicated to use and I'm planing on using voip and do you have to pay, say I have 3 phones in my house would I have to pay using voip like paying a separate bill for phone and is it like that with all ip phones like if you heard of mitel ip phones

    • @bluntlab
      @bluntlab  5 років тому

      @@microsoftwindowslover8346 with VOIP you usually only pay for one VOIP plan and that covers all phones. VOIP is essentially like a phone line. asterisk is a server that shares it between multiple phones and makes a phone system.
      I have heard of mitel dont know it it would be eassier or not. most IP phones are very propritery like Cisco really want you to use a Cisco system their designed to be installed by professionals etc.
      But the are loads of phones that can be setup easilly for Asterisk or 3cx (my recomendation if you want simple as its windows based) Snom/Grandstream come to mind for simple setup

    • @microsoftwindowslover8346
      @microsoftwindowslover8346 5 років тому

      Ok I will check out grand stream phones so like you said the Cisco phones are more complicated to set up on Aterisk and voip you have to pay for it because to be honest I'm only 13 and I love ip phones and I'm trying to look for the best ip phones where you could just plug them in to the Internet and then to the computer and set the ones up there

    • @bluntlab

      @@microsoftwindowslover8346 I was 13 when I got into IP phones. granted it was the painful Cisco 7900 route. much frustration there but it sparked my interest for IP phones.
      You can do it for free (minus the cost of phones and anyother hardware) Asterisk is free and can be installed on any old computer or a cheap raspberry PI (a nice low power silent setup for $30~)
      Asterisk will connect to most SIP compatible phones like the Grandstream GXP1610. but check out ebay as the is often cheap phones. a bit of googling can reveal how easy it will be to use. Cisco SPA series phones are a good option their very nice to setup.
      as for calls to/from external numbers like cell phones/landlines you will need a SIP provider this is optional and you can often find a free SIP provider who will give you a number so that people can call you for free. and then it works like a pay-as-you go mobile where you can add credit to do outbound calls to other people
      calls between IP phones connected to asterisk is free. so you can make a little phone system that works like an intercom. have a phone by my bed and one in the kitchen so my parents can call me as I dont hear them with my headphones on. a bit over the top but thats just what I like. fun project

  • @garyjs3
    @garyjs3 5 років тому +1

    You can fix the kitchen phone using the "2 Post Contact Hookswitch" pads, I've repaired hundreds of that model phone. It's a pretty easy fix.

    I've noticed that you kept the phones on the default North American network locale (brrrrrinng). Can you do a demo on changing the network locale to the British network locale (burr burr burr burr) using the g3-tones.xml filefor the UK?

    • @NortelGeek
      @NortelGeek 3 роки тому +2

      One thing I've never understood about the G3/G4/Gateway tone files supplied by Cisco is that the tones for idial and odial are wrong/reversed for the US and perhaps other regions as well. In the US, when you pick up a Cisco phone, you get what sounds like PSTN dialtone first and once you dial the steering code (I use the old "Dial 9 to 'get out' convention) you get the singular "inward tone" (I believe it's 440Hz.)
      I've corrected this for myself and my clients so that they know they "got out". (Kind of like the old Lucent systems where you could actually hear the relays dropping you onto PSTN dial tone.)
      Odd thing, that.

    Check out Chan-SCCP-B... It is hands-down the best interop for Cisco phones running native SCCP firmware with an almost 1:1 CUCM feature parity. UseCallManager is great for their newer phones running SIP, but for 79XX, Chan-SCCP-B is the best!

    • @bluntlab
      @bluntlab  5 років тому +1

      I do not have any videos on that topic. I would highly recommend you stay clear of the 7900 series for asterisk. the 7800 and 8800 series have models that work MUCH better with asterisk as they have designed some of them for "3rd party call control"
      Better yet avoid all the hassle with firmware and get a phone thats SIP out the box like a Polycom or a Cisco SPA. the 7900's can be made to work but they are not worth the hassle in 2019

    • @Steveos312
      @Steveos312 4 роки тому +1

      @@bluntlab Short story the SIP for the 7900s was more of an long lasting experiment than a solution. Newer generations like the 79x5 had the internal horsepower, but again it was more for the large Call Manager than the CMEs or Asterisks.
      I recommend Cisco after years cursing them to heck. 7800, 8800 are clearly designed for SIP and in some ways are better than the 7900s but 6800s as of 2020 is replacing SPA. Polycoms? If they aren't classic ol analog and if you come to me with one, be warned, I have a hammer and I am willing to smash that POS "device"! :P They're cheap, but "cheap" means cut corners and it adds more headaches!

    Is this (CP-8845) phone work with Asterisk?

  • @rolandkronqvist1034
    @rolandkronqvist1034 7 років тому +1

    I have an Asterisk running on a Raspberry PI3 with several Cisco 7931 connecting through the SCCP-protocol. It works great.
    I just want to ask where can I configure the line buttons so they lit up on the other phones (as in your configuration) if someone is using their phone.

    • @rolandkronqvist1034
      @rolandkronqvist1034 7 років тому +1

      And also, if the line is not opening on your 7941, there is a fix for that. I have two 7940 and when I lifted the handset, nothing happened. The reason for that is that the switch inside the phone needs to be cleaned. There are videos in youtube for that fix. :)

    • @bluntlab
      @bluntlab  7 років тому +1

      You need to patch asterisk with the usecallmanager patch.
      Might not work with SCCP phones as the patch is heavily designed for SIP
      Have since moved to a proper Cisco Callmanager system from this. Asterisk is just not stable imo. kept dropping extensions and trunks

    • @rolandkronqvist1034
      @rolandkronqvist1034 7 років тому

      Aha, ok thanks! :)
      I have not experienced that Asterisk drops the SCCP-extensions. I have experienced that Asterisk drops the SIP-trunk though, but that is probably becuse I'm using a mobile internet connection that is behind a big NAT on the operator side, and my mobile router is also a NAT. So my Asterisk server is behind two NATs.... But, it is still quite rare that it drops the trunk, it works mostly quite well.

      Nice to hear that you have got hands on Cisco call mananger. But, is the Cisco Call Manager software to be run on a Windows server or is it run on Cisco routers?

    • @bluntlab
      @bluntlab  7 років тому +1

      Cisco Callmanager has 2 varients. CUCM which is a Linux server VM and has tons of features and uses more resources than you could imagine.
      And Cisco CME (Callmanager express) which is indeed on routers. much easier to work with. got a 2821 running my home voip. my only gripe is it can only handle one outgoing SIP trunk. can be solved with an FXO card and a SIP adapter if you really need 2 trunks (like I do)
      I never used Asterisk SCCP. its not compatible with the patch and gonna be honest all went over my head. SIP worked well but switch to CM as manual config editing is a pain and wanted to learn CM

      I am having vivid flashbacks to the 7906/7911 phones. their a nightmare to flash the firmware on as they dont have any visual indication its updating. so you think you bricked them.
      I would not recomend the 7900 phones on Asterisk but I would 100% not recomend the 7906/7911
      But if you can locate the firmware and flash it you will need to have a TFTP server and use XML files to configure. voip-info has some example XML files if thats any help

      @@bluntlab I have loads of respect for the expertise of Mr. Blunt, but I must say that Cisco 7911G phones do work just fine with FreePBX 15.0.17.24 (as do 7912G, 7945G, 7975G, 7961G and 7960G). The key of course is the SEP[MAC].cnf.xml configuration files for each, and to use chan_sip (instead of chan_pjsip which I haven't been able to get to work with these ancient Cisco IP phones). Make sure you update the 7911G's firmware to what is in specified in the config file.
