So far the best phone programming yet. Will try with my 7960 to convert to SIP, already have files from Cisco to convert but will do provisioning of all phones once hooked to my Free PBX BOX.

Just so you know SCCP is supported within asterisk itself which includes freepbx, it's very much not Cisco only.

Yes, I got everything working. I have tried a lot of other guides and they all don’t work. But yours does. I do have one question, can I change the wallpaper on the phone?
Wondering if you can help... my phones are not provisioning. The phone pulls the config file from my TFTP server, but when the phone boots up it continues to list itself as "unprovisioned" without any changes made. Unsure if its to do with my PBX; I'm running FreePBX on VirtualBox with a bridged adapter. My softphones are connecting no problem so I don't think it's routing related. Thanks so much for a great tutorial.

First of all this video is great! I can't thank you enough. I'm working on setting up a small business and we need a phone system. Question: can the TFTP server be on the free pbx server instead of on a separated computer? Also can the SIP firmware be transferred from the free pbx server instead of a separate computer.

@@elvismateo7022 Could it prehaps be your PBX? Are you US King FreePBX? Did you check the credentials and fail2ban settings?
@@bcm50 no, I'm using a Grandstream UCM. In the end I found my way to encourage the customer to change the whole phone line up for a better user experience, so I don't have to configure cisco phones anymore.

Could you do a more updated video on how to do this. I understand how to do it, but I always get stuck on the registering part. I'd appreciate it. So I don't know if I'm doing something wrong before that. It keeps saying registering then restarting, then back and forth like that. What do I need to make this work. Do I need one of those grandstreams to make it work? I'm confused.

I nearly started by using these units ...ended up with Cisco SPA504's (they have a web gui) .....got an older Cisco phone that also need TFTP ...d/loaded your config scripts just in case I get a load of these Cheap and a Client to Buy them off me (fitted) ...and then I can go and install a hangover...
So I’m the alternate tftp, I would put in my computer (FreePBX) ip address? And when I restart the phone(s) it should be registered

Looking for some help getting a 7942 to work with Everyday Voip. Following this excellent video has got the phone working with the SIP protocol, now I'm trying to do the configuration file. This is where things seem to differ from Free PBX. Everyday Voip have given me a SIP URL (from which I got the IP address) and a port (5060). Then a username and password for my account. I can't see where in the configuration I can enter the username/password bit. I don't want an extension number, I just want this to be the phone that rings when my VOIP number is called. Any ideas?
I am following the same steps in the video for a 7942, and when transferring the files, nothing seemed to me, only the log indicates that TERM42.defaul.loads were sent.

How did you manage to update it successfully?
Got as far as the xml files, which I can't seem to add successfully. There is no log activity from TFTP after resetting the phone to look for the new host location. Suggestions?

@@bcm50 I tried this on my 8811. It keeps asking for the CTLXXX.tlv and ITLXXX.tlv files... which I don't have since , I do not have CUCM. Is there a way to bypass this? the phones are brand new with 11.7

It will ask for those files if the phone has a private key in it. Do a factory reset of the phone by the 123456789 method which is detailed elsewhere and that will wipe the phone and wipe the keys and then it will attempt to pull a non-encrypted version of the tftp files

Yes, Thai will still work for a cloud hosted instance. And yes this will also work for 3CX

Hello, I am following your exact steps, however when i boot the phone up, it says term41.default, it then proceeds to reboot with the bull's eye screen, any ideas
I am new to it. correct me what understood is that basically you have to run a freebox server and use it's IP address in the XML file to register the phone beside other settings.is there any other way to register just one Cisco phone after converting to SIP firmware without the free-box server?

This is great! I however am stuck with some enterprise 8851 on CUCM fw. I was able to use this method to get to the 3Pcc fw but it says I need a migration lic. Any way around this? Trying to get these prov to Zoom and it looks like it’s getting my line info from zoom but can’t make or receive calls and the mig lic warning pop up

No there is no way around this. If the phone was purchased new you would have bought the 3PCC version of the phone if the phone is a used enterprise 8851 then you have to pay Cisco for the migration license. But the migration license isn't that bad it's only around $50. Note that the 3PCC firmware requires a completely different TFTP config file format. Flash it back to the enterprise firmware and it will be fine you can use it with the enterprise xml config
Is it possible to use the built in TFTP on FreePBX? I was able to flash a 7965 using tftpd but I want the config files to be on the local FreePBX server. I placed them in the tftpboot directory on the server and made sure the services were started and enabled at boot, but the phone remains unprovisioned. Will I need to always flash the configuration file via tftpd (or similar) when registering to FreePBX?
Fixed my issue, but then I was having an error getting my config file to validate - turns out Label's are limited to 12 characters. Changed my label to under 12 and phone is registering now!

Yes. But you need a active Tftp server to constantly update the phone if you don’t I don’t know any other way.
I am trying to connect this to a Yeastar S20 which extension uses number, letter and 1 capital letter. Is there anyway I can insert such password into Cisco xml file? since I heard it receives only numerical value, not letters..let alone capital letter

@@bcm50 I think I have the same problem, I will try to explain better. The phone is not registering to the Free PBX. I have created the extension, but maybe the error is in the PBX configuration of the extension, which you don't show in the video. Can you give some details on that? Thanks!

I made this mistake so I figure I'll share incase anyone does the same, but if you're having trouble getting tftpd to work on windows, make sure windows firewall is disabled!

Hello, with the help of your video I was able to configure a Cisco 7942 and register it with an Elastix pbx, but I have not been able to configure a Cisco 7962, it remains registered. If you could help me guide me with the configuration file for this model, I would greatly appreciate it. thank you.
How did you transfer the files? They charge me but the phone then only shows the Cisco logo?

My phone connects to the server but the phone says error after about 10 seconds any ideas?
The tftp server says sendto error 10051: A socket operation was attempted to an unreachable network
VLAN and other blocking may be in the way, and just to confirm, your using TFTP64 correct?

The phone just goes to reboot as soon as it starts downloading the files

Apparently, you need a service contract. I provided the serial number that is on the UP 7965g phone, but the serial number was not found in the CISCO database. Are the files for 7965g SIP and for UP 7962g, available from another location?
You only need one for the newest firmware. Try downloading one a version back.
So um what If my phone doesn't have a power plug and I was just planning on using POE?
Yes, that is fine, that will work too!
Set up a VLAN on your switch to isolate a few ports away from your local network. Then you can use the switch as a passthrough for the TFTP transfer of the SIP files with your computer acting as the DHCP server.

@@bcm50 ok i just change the port to 5160 and it worked. what is not working is the time its 5 hours ahead of time. i used my time zone Eastern Standard don't know if that will be correct

The text in the link is correct. There are spaces that have to be included. copy the link and paste in a brower. Make sure you include all of it up to the .zip

Hi, I know this video is pretty old but I'm hoping for a response. I've connected my Cisco 7942G to my computer with a network switch and nothing shows up on the log viewer. I've followed the instructions in the video and nothing happens, even after leaving it for half an hour.

This is false, it works for PoE phones, in fact the phone in this video is PoE
@@bcm50 yes my bad i was thinking too fast about plugging directly into the computer like a dumb dumb instead of assigning the IP through the switch that it would still connect to the client XD my brain was fried at that time my apologies.

good morning, i uave followed you instructions and my phone did download the SEP.xml files but tftp is looking for the CTLSEP.tlv and the ITLSEP.tlv files. no clue what they are. cisco 7962
I'm stuck :v After rebooting a phone it boot up, download his "SEP....cnf.xml" aaaannnddd nothing. I triple check everything in this file, everything seems to be okay, but I still have "unprovisioned" on screen :c Any ideas?
