You're a gem! The way you described the issue/problem matched mine perfectly. I had removed the dead battery for two days to give it a good charge. The alarm went off upon reinstalling the battery, rapidly flashing dash led lights etc. Seriously mate, thank you kindly. I have a 1999 Disco II, 250k miles. Other than the odd assortment of unusual issues, it's been a reliable workhorse for camping in the forest, pulling a 14ft. aluminum boat, kayaks, a 5'x8' utility trailer. 🤩⚓🇺🇸
Have the same problem. Disco 2 TD5. New start motor is in place. So I tryied to move the relay as you did. And it works. So did you found the problem? Is the problem under the fusebox?
I bought a D2 TD5 that came with starting instructions of , usually required the 5 full pedal pushes and lots of cranking. Sometimes 5 seconds , sometimes numerous trys. Well eventually it didnt start at all so bit of investigation found that the starter motor had lost 2 of 3 bolts and No 3 was blowing in the wind. New starter motor bolts and now tight all issues dissapeared. This was 5 years ago. Seeing as I picked the car up for a grand in pretty tidy condition but with this issue I did pretty well.
I've exactly the same issue, car can be started using a lead off the +ve, the relay tests out OK but when in place will not work and the earth lead to engine tests out OK. What was your fix for the reluctant relay position issue? Thanks
I have the exact same problem except no matter what angle I put the relay in nor how far it’s pushed in still doesn’t start. Will only run off of bypassing the relay for a short amount of time
😮 How did you do that? My V8 doesn’t click. Battery is good. So I’m hoping it’s a relay issue so I don’t have to pay $900 to have the starter replaced. How did you get it to start without the relay? You said you added 12 volts to the pin. How do I do that? I don’t have a multi meter.
@@2004RS4did you find the issue bro?old mate has a terrible response time it seems.Generally it’s basic stuff like bad earths,bad contacts at the accessories,broken wires,fuel pump not happy,ecu not sending information due to crank angle sensor,running in a cold salty area induces a lot of corrosion which effects plug contact things like this to look for.
hye...i have same issue...my discovery not even cranck when start...fuel cover cannot open and all spedometer, rpm, gas meter and temperature and all not working....can u give me suggestion?
I've just replaced the headliner and now the car won't start. I'm guessing I've either unplugged something, earthed something, or blown something. Can't really be much else.
@@wardysworx Cheers for that, Il have a look. Worked fine this morning with the headliner removed. Will not start or turn over with the headliner installed. Remote key has stopped working also so could be the rf. Was an anticlimax after standing back to admire my fresh headliner.

Sounds like your harmonic damper is fooked. They like to squeak on shut-down when they're failing.
I just did what you suggested, swapping them and I started it fine

Did you notice the relay was different to the rest of them..
Couldn't you have just swapped the relay with one next to it to figure that out?

You can buy a 12 volt probe off
Amazon cheap or run a wire from
Battery to the relay pin
And then what? Connect it to the red battery terminal & tap the probe to the pin?

got a td5 disco, new in tank pump fitted and primed, won’t start just cranks and cranks.. any ideas on what i can try? :)
It can take 10 or more prime cycles to get the air out. Can be a nightmare

Sound like you have no power. Start with checking the battery
