  • Testing is better than random parts changing exercises but sometimes testing can raise more questions. Here we look at Testing the ECM output, relay operation, voltage drop and just for curiosity the amp draw from the fuel pump shown in wave form on a meter.
    We also find that the pressure at the engine side of the fuel delivery not as we expect.

    Found these videos recently and I'm addicted to them. Not a landy owner (yet) but these videos ease the worry of maintenance and upkeep. Keep up the good work, I want more videos!! :)

    great video! TD5 fuel systems are a pain, worked on them a few times now and just don't like it haha, and personally i would change that high pressure pipe, a kink weakens the pipe and could cause a premature failure, especially with higher pressures

    • @trailerfitter2
      @trailerfitter2  8 років тому

      +Nick Heywood Yes that is a possibility. Kink has been there for some time as you can see by the dirt on it.

    Excellent video thank you. Where can I buy a relay tester such as yours? When I Google I just get meter type testers that require the relay to be removed from the vehicle.

    Hi Chris ,what was that adapter you screwed into the fpr you was using with your burgen kit ? it was clearly not part of the kit and something from elsewhere.

    My disco wouldn’t run, I changed the fuel pressure regulator and the pump . Still wouldn’t run . Eventually I studied the fuel system and found that little filter in the fuel line .took it out and hey presto, worked perfectly. That was about 8 years ago.never did replace it 😂

    Hi. I've got defender90 TD5 engine. I recently got it rewired. everything seems fine but when I start the engine, after about 15 seconds I get an engine light on the dash and the eccellearator doesn't work. do you know what might be causing this?

    • @trailerfitter2
      @trailerfitter2  7 років тому

      Warning light on the dashboard first thing is to look in the ECU with a scanner reader and see what it is telling you. Accelerator is a TPS which means Throttle Position Sensor. If the ECU can't read the position where it is at because there is no signal or poor signal it could be this flagging up a problem.

    Really good vid - thanks. Still trying to diagnose my problem. With mine the engine turns over but does not fire, fuel pump not powering up though there is power at the relay but not the feed signal, no glow plug light on dash.. relays checked.. fuel cutoff checked..loose connection checked, Immobiliser seems to work as expected.. car battery new and fully charged, Injector harness replaced in last 6 months and is clear.. No MIL. I even sent the ECU away for testing.. Not sure what to try next..

    • @trailerfitter2
      @trailerfitter2  7 років тому +1

    • @rysktalande
      @rysktalande 7 років тому

      Tim Rogers how deed you solved your problem? I have the same issue on my defender td5 have power on relay. Fuse is fine but no power signal from ecu. If i connect relay its shows power on ecu signal but not starting fuel pump... Don't know what to do next

    • @timrogers7693
      @timrogers7693 7 років тому

      Yes I did! I was almost ant the point of despair. I found that as well as the main fuses next to the ECU, the ECU was powered by a small red 10A fuse in the main fuse panel in front of the gear stick. The fuse was fine but the fuse holder was covered on white oxidisation (the others were fine). I gave the holder a good clean and the put the fuse back in and the moment I turned the key I heard the pump power up, the glow-plug light came on and.. away she went. Have to say I found it almost by accident.. Good luck!

    • @rysktalande

    Seem to be having an issue where my 2004 Disco 2 Td5 won't run when the tank goes below half. When doing a Pressure test I get about 5 Bar.(Took the temp switch out and measured it from there). Replaced the fuel regulator and all o-rings yet this did not solve the issue.

    what voltage does the battery drop too whilst you crank?
    td5's dont really like to start with less then 11.3v whilst cranking!
    and 11.6v on an auto!

      how long do you crank it for?
      when i change stuff in mine, even running the 'auto bleed' for about 10mins, it sometimes does still take 10-15mins of cranking (30 second cranks) even to fire up!
      even on a genuine new land rover pump!
      Have you removed the pump yet?
      i was only getting 1.5bar on mine due to the gauze on the bottom of the pump, it self!
