I dislike him more than August... what August did to Simon and Wille twice (tape and blackmail) was terrible but as a character he's at least interesting and has some not so shitty moments. But Vincent especially since last season is so annoing

I do think Wille was trying to create some commonality and connection with Simon's friends. And I think it continues this divide of Wille thinking being the crown prince is a job and others thinking it is all sunshine and rainbows. Without spoilers, later in the season, the queen makes a comment about being Wille's mom and boss, and I don't think others think of her as his boss. At his job.
I partially agree of what you're saying, however it's definitely not the same thing. Wille was trying to be nice saying that but it not even close to Rosh, Ajub and Simon's situation. In my first watch I didn't get all the scene where the kids are talking so I was a little taken back about their discussion in the tent. However I see know more Simon's and his friends prospective and I'm totally on their side. Like no bro (talking indirectly to Wilhelm), attending a prince course twice/three a week tops is not the same thing as working your ass on summer
@wandam.888 yeah this is one of the things why i think they dont work because theyre too different. And to say Wille's "summer work" is just bootcamp for Princes is just no. It's a lot more tbh. And for example if Simon burns a burger at his work is an oppsie but if Wille f*cks up is a national incident so minimizing his work is not good either. I get Simon's pov tho
@@leroselapin I hear you and it's ok, my point was that mostly whatever happens Wille is definitely the most privileged in that situation and Simon has a reason to feel pissed, however your reason is fair. I don't know if you have watched the whole season yet, if you didn't please do because it gets more interesting :)
wille shushing simon pissed me off but also it makes sense bc that’s how he was raised in his family. the same goes for simon like you can tell how differently these grew up in terms of communicating and talking about their feelings
the tent scene pissed me off but the reason simon and wille are clashing is mainly bc wille doesnt want august to get the throne and doesnt want him to win so hes making himself and simon struggle under the confines of the crown kind of to spite august and not let down his family. and the classism and differences between simon/sara everyone else has been a big part of the show always its just a big more obvious and less implied this season. so excited to see ur reaction to ep3 ☺
exactly! ppl question why wille is sticking so close to the royal ideals, but its honestly for multiple reasons. 1. his mom's health is in such bad shape so he's so worried about putting even more stress on her by challenging these ideals of the system/getting into more scandals 2. he is trying his best to fit the role so that the monarchy does not threaten to take his title away and give it to august 3. it's a lot of pressure to put on a teenager to try and change a system that has existed for generations

Lisa had a quote in an interview that I love about how we really just shouldn't be relying on a teenager to lead a revolution alone and that really clarified things for me - in the show, adults are putting inappropriate pressure on Wille constantly, but even the fandom kind of wanted him to tear it all down from the inside. That's why I love the ending so much! He should just get to be a person.
Their love is just not compatible with the monarchy, no matter which way you spin it (because of those ongoing legacies of homophobia and classism). I don’t think their problems have anything to do with how they feel about each other, but the conditions by which W’s been socialized. That inconceivable amount of privilege + being neglected by his parents leads him to say/do the ´wrong’ things. Also, since S1, Simon has always been vocal about class differences and I imagine he’s more sensitive about it because of the bullying he’s faced from elitists at Hillerska. I get where both of them are coming from 😞

I think you maybe missed the nuance of the fact that August was part of the reason why Ville didn’t experience the video. Him and the other gay friend were looking at each other while Vincent was talking, and then in the room they said “at least we kept our promise and didn’t do it moving forward”. That was a big deal to me because I feel like that contributed to his redemption arc quite a bit.

As an older viewer, I would say it's very understandable that grief can hit you hard a few months down the line. Especially if you are busy sorting things out following the death of a loved one. And mind-numbing deep, grief can hit you in waves for a really long time. The queen, in her position, has to squash her grief down (as you can do if you are a normal person but have to be the strong one for others) and then it can hit you like running into a brick wall. I absolutely agree she's not be a good mother to Wille, putting the country before him. But look at the total mess our (British) royal family is in now - they are an incredibly dysfunctional family and have been for generations.

As much as I don't excuse how the Queen has been acting towards this Wilhelm, it's still such a compelling and human character. It's ok if people don't get it right away but she's been grieving her dead son and handling the stress of her status for decades, she's wrong of course but it's ok if you feel bad about her, and in the you get to understand her and appreciate her character. This why this show is so well done, it's characters are so complex, interesting and none are boring

Wille and Simon both have issues seeing across the class divide. Like, no, 'prince school ' may not be the same as working for money to afford stuff, but it is still work and it takes a toll on Wille, especially given his disdain for being crown prince. Simon doesn't seem to understand how ot affects Wille. He's just seeing the privilege.
Wille was just trying to get closer to Simon's friends. Trying to include them. There were issues given the classism at play with many of the richer students but he meant well.
Thank you! People are not seeing that! They're just being like "Wille is mean" when that poor child is dealing with a lot by himself while Simon has his loving family and supportive friends.
Only my POV, but crown prince school really is work for Wille. We already know his parents think he a fuck-up, and want him to become an Erik clone. The same Erik who was raised from birth into the role that Wilhelm is expected to learn completely in 1 summer. Its not the menial, manual work of Simon, Rosh, and Ayub ( which is shit) but mentally, emotionally, and psychologically, it will totally wipe out Wille. And at the end of a few months, the whole nation will expect Erik 2.0.
Would any of us view trying to cram 18 years of knowledge and experience into a few months as 'not hard work'?
Wille only sees Simons' freedom and loving family
Simon only sees Willes' privilege and material wealth
Lisa - the head writer has always said that the queer love story was never the main problem. It was always the class divide, the expectations and traditions that surrounded them, that was the problem
@donutcat.123 this!!! People are not seeing the mental work Wille is doing trying to juggle everything while being only 17. I said both Wille and Simon needed to find who they are individually before being together in the future because I feel like Wille right now might regret whatever decision he makes and blame Simon even if it's not his fault and same with Simon.
I’ve always thought this show was as much about class differences and the effects of privilege as anything, and it’s just expressed a bit more overtly in this season. So I’m not at all surprised that it comes up when Simon‘s friends first meet the Hillerska students. As far as the scene that happens during the campout, I think that because the conversation about going to New York and who has and who hasn’t gets tense, Wille tries to diffuse the situation with his comment about working that summer, not realizing how tone deaf it is. We have to remember how young these characters are and that they’re operating from their own limited experiences. Often people who are privileged and have lived among other privileged people don’t really realize the privilege they have. So it’s understandable that the less privileged have little patience with the more privileged, and also that the more privileged ones make assumptions that we recognize as pretty clueless.

22:17 thank you for bringing this up! I think you’re the first reactor I’ve watched so far that caught in to that… he was trying to relate and include Simon’s friends, but I don’t think he understands the extend of his privilege (even though he’s clearly more aware than the girlies)
22:15 it’s definitely an interesting discussion you bring up. I have several thoughts on this:
1. The brunette was jealous so she was deliberately grouping herself and the blonde in a way that makes Simon’s friends inferior, as a way to show the blonde that they belong together, and to try and put a wedge between them.
2. I agree with you, Wille was trying to make them feel included by saying that he will also be working that summer. I also think that he has always wanted to be “Normal” and that by phrasing it this way, he was aligning himself that way. So I do think there was some of that as well.
3. While Simon is correct in that Ville’s work isn’t to be able to buy stuff, and that Ville kind of completely forgot that differentiation, I still think that it’s not really fair to say that what Ville is doing isn’t work. It’s still work. It’s not the same and talking as if it were is certainly a reason to be upset, but that doesn’t make it NOT work.
4. I thought Simon was being a bit unfair to Ville, he meant well and was trying to make sure his friends were included. I get that it made him feel even more distant and like Ville doesn’t get it, and he’s a teenager who was just upset and we say things without thinking whether they sign exactly with what we should be upset about and all that, but still. I don’t think Ville deserved that.
5. Side note: the lesbians really irritated me this season. Shut your privileged bitchy arses up, oh my god. They were annoying in the other seasons as well but such background voices it could be overlooked. Only that locker scene was cute. Other than that they just irritated me the entire time. Good lord. Not even being gay redeemed their personalities, honestly. That aspect is cute but y’all are still annoying. This season they were just below Vincent for me personally, just shut uuuup.
I actually find it so interesting to watch the show as an adult because i feel like I would have understood less of Wille struggles if I watched it younger. Bro is about to become king at 18, trying to deal with being out, unspoken grief, parents are absent and also in general face for the 1st time ever a reality check on his own privileges and situation compare to Simon who is a victim of the society in a way that he doesn't have access to those privileges and has to fight for himself. In a way, Simon's reality is hard but has been for years. Whereas Wille is facing all of those at the same time. Wich definitely result to him making mistakes. Watching the serie kind of felt like watching someone drowing and his relationship was the only way for him to keep his face above water : it's hard, harsh, he fight all the time but at least he is open. I felt like the story of Wille without Simon will just lead him to close down to everything like his mother, never share or open up. In general a very well written story ^^
The last episode had me on the floor crying and screaming, even just me thinking about it makes me cry

that scene in the tent is hard to watch because yes simon had everything right to feel mad, but wille was truly trying to do something good by saying that and it’s not his fault that he’s not aware of how privileged he is. he grew up around that and only spent time with other privileged people, so it’s almost like a culture shock for both of them..

I get both sides to be honest. Simon has had to work all most of his teenage years in order to afford things etc. So he has the right to be annoyed when the hillerska students brag about travelling, rich things when he has never had the opportunity. HOWEVER, I do think its a tad unfair to say what willie is doing isn't work either. I basically think Willies whole life has been work (training to be a royal, dealing with the public/pressure etc.) just a different kind of work to Simons.

I think Wille said that thing about his working in the summer for two reasons. First, he wanted to make Rosh and Ayub feel good and accepted and part of the group they were in at that moment. But second, I also think he wanted to be just a regular kid who has to work during the summer, because he does not want that privileged life any more. He wants to be part of Simons friend group of just regular kids. And he has gotten more and more aware of that during the season.

ok, so the whole season was crazy but i cannot express the stress i felt during the last episode, the school was deadass shutting down and i was like, surely not?? something will happen! but nope they actually shut the bitch downn! then simon and wille were broken up and i was thinking, this is the last episode of the last season, they have to end up together! i would never rewatch if they didnt end up together. then i was losing my mind because i was 52 minutes into the 57 minute episode and there was obviously going to be some time of credits so they had a few minutes and were still not back together??? then felice ditches her friends and im like um ok slay then wilhelm renounces his position in line to the throne finally and chases a car to get back with simon in the last 30 seconds!!! i just finished the whole season in one go and it is now 4am but omg that was a rollercoaster

Well, maybe Wille meant well when he compared the prince school and Rosh's job, but he was totally wrong when he dared to compare the settlement money Simon got from August (as a compensation for posting his intimate video and putting him in the spotlight) and the money and privilege Wille was born into. Absolutely atrocious.
