9:45 the Aztecs actually do have an elite shot blocker in Nathan Mensah (6’10, with a 7’5 wingspan). He was in their starting 5 for the first 10-15 games of the season, but has been sidelined with a respiratory infection for the past couple months. There’s a chance he’ll be able to return at some point before the NCAA Tourney... if so, their defense will be even better than it’s been in conference play.
Well, if he isn't playing at 100% once the tourney starts, he could be more of a detriment rather than benefit. I don't see Nathan Mensah coming back at 100% from a respiratory ailment especially when he has to run up and down the court and play physical down low. I think his minutes will be limited and we will see more of Narain/Joel Mensah.
@@tomt4569 It's a blood clot in the lung. He's been practicing everything but physical contact this whole time. Reports say he should be good in time for tourney.

Interesting video, I've never looked that far into the Aztecs' strategies, so it was interesting to see. As for good wins: Creighton, Iowa, BYU all ranked. Creighton second in the big east, and just beat two top ten teams on the road, so they've been a great team. SDSU didn't just win, they won by 31. They Not only beat Iowa, they came back from down 15 to quickly get a lead early second half. All of those teams were away or neutral, and they were expected to lose. Even when SDSU was nationally ranked, they were expected to lose at Utah State, against the defending conference champ, a team that was highly ranked, and with the conference player of the year and player that should've gone NBA but stayed. And the Aztecs won. In fact, the aztecs are the only team that's ever won at Utha State this year. And the only team that's won at BYU this year. And the only team that's won at New Mexico this year. How did the New Mexico game go? SDSU started 17-0 and the entire game was a blowout, the Lobos didn't sore for almost 6 minutes. These are all teams that almost never lose at home. SDSU plays D. SDSU travels well. SDSU shares the ball. Playing against Utah was a good challenge too, many expected them to lose or for it to be one of the hardest remaining games. In more recent times, Boise State was supposed to be the hardest remaining game, against a huge sellout crowd and one of the better teams in the conference that plays every game hard. How would they lose? Failing on offense, committing fouls, or teams getting baseline drives over and over.
Yeah those teams still don't have elite prospects of the bigger schools but sdsu is solid. They'll make some noise in the tournament but a team line Kansas Baylor or texas tech can beat them handily
@@haroldpierce1987 I gotta disagree. Kansas has now lost thrice, and SDSU has faced plenty of equal opponents to them. People will say I'm wrong but it's the truth. As for Baylor, they haven't had much of a challenge yet, and they've lost to an unranked team. I'm not saying it's an easy win, but at minimum it would be a close game for sure. I doubt either team would walk away up 20
@@justingolden21 each game is a challenge and when I say handily I don't necessarily mean blowout I just mean i don't see sdsu getting up big on them or keeping leads for any sustained amount of time. We've seen better versions of teans similar to sdsu like the 2012-15 Wichita state teams or 08-10 butler. I don't feel SDSU has the same ability as those teams in terms of upsetting major teams to elite 8 or better runs in the tournament but I've only seen 3 sdsu games so my observation is narrow
Regardless of talent, I'd like to see some Power 5 team try to play at altitude at least 10 times a year which is what happens in the MWC. Guarantee at least one, maybe a couple losses from running out of gas
@@haroldpierce1987 No way. SDSU might not be better but is every way equal and would be a back and forth game. Prob for most teams is that they never see an elite D which makes their numbers look good

You missed the point. When in a power conference these teams play top notch talent every game, there are no easy nights to rest. They played 3 good teams and beat them, that’s great! But I’d take the team that has played 12 good teams and beat 10 of them.
Many teams have tried. But, you need special personnel both O and D to try to make that work. Video emphasized schemes but didn't mention there's some talent on the team besides Flynn
Their DER has been top 10 for decades going back to x Michigan coach fisher Dutcher continued that success. Their problems are generally on offense. Though the Kawhi , Flynn years they were better. They had more transition offense off turnovers so it's not exactly that impressive a 1/2 court offense though they're very patient which is also annoying because if you get behind your done . But if they get behind they are . They control pace both ways with D and hunting shots. They usually dont get pac 10 elite athletes.
@@JoseHernandez-ne1js He's just saying that top teams lost to unranked, and that's not SDSU's fault, not that they were mandated to lol. Also the source is literally just anywhere, they're easily accessible facts. Google "Duke basketball" or something idk man
Are the number 4, 5, and 6 best offensive teams in the country "decent"? How many top 25 teams do they have to beat before they're "decent"? Is three not enough? Are road or neutral wins against BYU, Creighton, Iowa, Utah, and Utah State not good enough? I think they've played plenty of "decent" teams, people just think that because the MW isn't a power five that it sucks. It's honestly better than one or two power fives each year, in both basketball and football. MW teams usually beat their power five opponents (more of a football stat, but "power five" applies more to football anyway).
I don’t think you guys understood the wording of my comment. When I say “legit”, I mean really strong teams, like top 10 teams. I already watched them beat Creighton and BYU. I am a Nevada fan, so I know what it’s like to be overhyped in the MW, just like SD state is now. I was at the UNLV game when the Aztecs only won by 5, they did not impress me.
Safe to say you are a casual fan. No real college hoops fan would say something so basic and misguided. The MWC isn't great, but it is still a top-10 league. Plus, you realize SDSU had to play a non-con schedule too right, just like everybody else? The vast majority college basketball teams play in "weak" conferences, yet NONE of them are undefeated.
They literally cover the schedule in the video lol. Did you even watch it? Is beating three top 25 teams good enough? Is beating three top ten offensive teams good enough. Is beating Iowa and Creighton by a combined 41 points good enough? #1 Baylor and #2 Gonzaga (and #6 Duke) have all lost to unranked teams. They played "nobodies" and lost
they have more top 25 wins than anyone else except 2 teams who share that #1 spot with them. Also, they have a non conference schedule and out of the MW there is always a very good team or two, UNLV, FRESNO St. Boise St. etc

SDSDU gotta let the 2-MAN start the play sometimes.
The reason why SDSU is the ONLY undefeated team in the country is because the top teams had to lose to UNRANKED teams. Not SDSU's fault.
