Despite Japanese being a grammatically simple language, the way how it is use is what makes it difficult. In the sentence “I have a very young sister” she is actually saying “ I have younger sister that is years away from me” and the Japanese structure is “I have a years away younger sister”. The mentality of the language is what I find sometimes difficult. But great video nonetheless! ありがと!
Thank for that correction,I don't how they got that that wrong
I'm learning Chinesepod101 now but i come back for risa

Oh on! Risa-sensei is being adorable again!
When I learned Japanese (many years ago), I was taught to use non-honorific forms (母、父、兄、姉、弟、妹) for my own family members. I was surprised when I moved to Japan to find a lot of Japanese don't follow that rule. I even hear some men refer to their own wife as 奥さん, which always strikes me as strange since I learned to use 妻 only.
language when being taugh vs language when being spoken with by natives in a relax situation is always extremely different and there are little to no rules associated.
I disagree. Japanese is extremely adherent to rules, especially those involving honorifics (敬語). This is a rare exception.
We must talk to different native japanese people then. Half of what i learned in class were thrown out the door when i got thrown into Japan
No one says 妻 to call their wife. And talking about one's own wife using the term 奥さん is technically wrong but not uncommon. Some girls even add ちゃん to their own name in conversation with significant others, but I don't like it and most Japanese frown on it as well.
I remember reading an article by a Japanese native who was saying that it is more politically correct to use 妻, due to its more neutral roots. I'm not exactly sure which are used when speaking with ones wife versus speaking to others about ones wife.
I just LOVE the ending theme song 🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵

Ahhh, Risa-sensei, you forgot to mention 家族 ( Kazoku , which is the Japanese word for "family", for those who don't know that word :) )...but nice video anyway...keep making more Japanese lesson video Risa-sensei ! :D
this thing really helping, but its even nicer if each word have their own color. just suggestion tho, just like each family word, they get blue color. so the other responsible word should get color too. however this vid is still great.

So what's the difference between おかあさん and はは for mother, and おとうさん and ちち for father?
Hi TyOrca 5,
Thank you for posting.
Nomally adults don't call their mother/father "okāsan"/"otōsan" as the third person in conversation.
They use "haha"/"chichi" instead.
Hope this helps you.

Are you all still Learning Japanese or you're here for risa?
I am here for risa
I"ve been watching Inuyasha anime in Japanese w/ subs. I've noticed that he calls his mom "ofukuro" rather than okasan. Is this normal?
Arigatou
I do wish Risa would explain the grammar and vocabulary of the things she says, as without a proper explanation her videos are not nearly as useful as they could be. For instance:
1. When Risa talks about having/not having an older brother/younger sister/cousins, etc, she keeps saying "watashi ni wa ..." WHY? Why not just say "watashi wa ..." Why does she add 'ni'?
2. Why does she say "takusan no itoko"? Why isn't "takusan itoko" sufficient?
3. When talking about her niece she uses the 'kute' form of kawaii - ie. 'kawaikute'. WHY? I thought the 'kute' form was used to string several adjectives together, but this is not the case here.
Good lord- that would take a long time... try and get the larger points the lesson is based on. the fine parts of regular speech you reference are for a more academic study of the language (you've already identified your queries- no go find you answers)... but truthfully, those are the points you will get a grip on with repetitive exposure to the language. For example, when you get the real feel of に and は as particles.. it will be the most natural thing to combine the two as in your first note. good luck!
Sorry for asking this, can you put the viedo of how to write japanese sentence clearly
Everyone is Simping for Risa... Why wouldn't you??

Why did she used NI after watashi at 0.54 ?
Is yo the last letter of the hiranga alphabet
do Japanese always actually use such polite forms and call mother and farther okasan and otosan? What are haha and chichi used for?
You use haha and chichi when you speak of your own mother and father.
she's so cute

nanchatte means just kididng!
Too cute to be real, she must be an anime character who escaped a series.
Kochira ga watashi no tsuma desu .
In Dragon Ball Z, characters call Kuririn's temporary girlfriend Maron "musume-san" but don't seem to refer to her being anyone's daughter.
Please someone teach me Japanese on Skype also what is the outro music !

risa is so cuteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Yea Risa is soo cute and beautifull one .maybe I can get a date once 🤣😂😉
Arigato gozaimasu
Wonderfull helpfull videos
I subscribe cause she's gorgeous
If "tsuma" is wife, why do I hear anime characters say something that sounds like "oks-san" when the subtitle says "wife?"
all these words are used to refer to your own family members. when referring to someone else's famil members you use different words for all of them
奥さん is another way to say wife (some people want it gone though; it has sexist roots)
Number 6 what does DOTE means??
to dote on someone is to display love towards them, often through cute compliments or manners
Hi s3xyScorp,
Thank you for posting.
A verb "dote" is "溺愛する(dekiai suru) in Japanese.
Hope this helps you.

Here come all the dorks asking to marry or stalk Risa...such unwelcomed behavior.
what is the difference between "haha" nd "okasan"??
Both of them means mother. Right??!
Haha is the humble form, Okaasan is the polite form.
"Haha" when you speak of you own mother
"Okaasan" when you speak to your mother, or of someone else's mother.
You ate my tsuma
Doesn't "san" imply someone's elses family
SO KAWAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII, KYAAAAA >.
Weeaboo.
Risa how to say . He said I'm cute.?? In Japanese??
There are many ways to say that. Do you want to be polite or not. I'll suggest saying the name instead of he. For example, "(Name) said that I'm cute). In Japanese, that would be "(Name) は私が可愛いだと言いました". (Name wa watashiga kawaii da to iimashita). However, if you've been talking about that person for some time, remove the name and say "Watashi ha kawaii da to iimashita". But to simply answers your question, say "彼は私が可愛いだと言いました". (Kare wa watashi ga kawaii da to iimashita).HOPE THIS HELPS!(^^)
How to say im the youngest in the family in japanese?
I got o-nechan word from Naruto😁
Me from Demon Slayer
姉上 is it right
Okaasan, that is a subliminal message about her
So I could call him onisan instead of calling him by his name right?
1:35 - What does Risa say there when she is waving? Sounds like "tara"?
Hi Bud E,
Thank you for posting.
And thank you for giving a question with the time on the video. It is very helpful for me to answer!
She says "Sara" and I guess it is her sister's name.
Hope this helps you.
