It isn’t all just “the system”. It is mostly the lack of a disciplined existence and a self-awareness this gen allows in their lives. Everyone blaming the “education system” has to realize that they are characterizing it as a “pull off top of student head and dump in knowledge” institution. That is not what it is. For it to be effective, one must engage with the learning process, exactly like what athletes, artists, and musicians must do to get good at their craft. Gen Z, almost across the board, refuses to do anything of their own volition and instead retreat to a position of victim.

My granddaughter just got her first teaching job, the 11th grade in a rough high school. She replaced a substitute teacher who filled in for the regular teacher who quit. The students were rude, disrespectful, loud, mouthy, aggressive and knew absolutely nothing. She saw their grades and all were passing with good marks. The police came into her classroom to arrest a student who pulled a knife on a teacher, he still had the knife on him. She went to the Administration to voice her concerns and was told “don’t rock the boat, just pass them”.
She resigned and is looking for another position.
This country is finished.
My wife taught in public schools. We sent our kids to Catholic schools.
That's why I bailed. Told my students the first one to step up will be the first in line I'll fu__ up. I's the only language most of them understand. And none of them put it to the test as I stated I'll forget where I am and who I am and in a rage screw you up. That worked

I'd venture to suggest that a lot of the parents aren't much better off - after all, Americans were complaining about the state of US schools back in the 1990s, and US public schools - some of the best-funded public schools in the history of the world! - have under-performed against even third-world schools for many decades now.
The school systems are too busy teaching young children about different pronouns and genders in alphabet rainbow community. Therefore, these kids lack of basic knowledge.

Brutal. When working in my local high school I asked 5 teachers over lunch why several kids DEFINITELY graduating this year couldn’t read above 4th grade level, can’t read an analog clock, can’t count a stack of cash to total, they all ignored me looked away basically shunned me forevermore.

My parents didn't really trust the school system when I was in school back in the '70s and '80s... they attended all the parent-teacher conferences and open-house meetings and so on, reviewed my homework assignments and such with me to see what I was being taught and to make sure I was studying, and not only did I attend public schools every year, but my parents also home-schooled me on the side for the first few grades of school to make sure I was learning things that they felt the school was neglecting.
But, that was in the days when the schools still made some attempt at pretending to teach students something useful.
I think that things back then were the way they are now, my parents would have pulled me out of public schools altogether, and found some other way to educate me.
My parents did more than their part at the time, but we can't expect most normal parents do do so much, and that was an era when the teachers still knew what they were talking about, when parents still had some idea what the teachers were talking about, and the schools still ran on some semblance of a sane curricula designed to convince anyone paying attention that children were being prepared with the knowledge needed to succeed in the real world on graduation.
That's not the parents, teachers, schools, or curriculum we're faced with today.
So yeah, it's at home with parents where SOMETHING should be happening, but keeping up with public school grades and standards is probably a waste of time and effort that wouldn't yield any better results than we're seeing in this video. To try to do that would be like trying to play a game of "Simon Says" with lunatics.
Check out TheQuartering's channel on UA-cam, for the short videos of the teachers that these poor kids are being educated by, to see what the real problem is: it's not simply a failure of parents to ensure that students are keeping up grades. The schools are thoroughly dysfunctional, and classrooms are being led by immature, insecure, delusional, raving purple-haired maniacs.
The federalized US public school system needs to be defunded, dismantled, and nuked from orbit, it's the only way to be sure that the AIDS and Monkeypox that public school systems are running on can churn out another fabulously expensive generation of people who cannot think their way out of a basic word problem, who cannot answer a simple question with the obvious answer built right into it. The federalized US public school system has been an utter catastrophe, with generations to work out the "bugs", with the people answering these questions as the crowning achievement of decades of "improvement" on this model. I’ve gotten interviewed on camera before about relationships. I remember babbling incoherently because I was so nervous. I would hope I could at least remember that there are 50 states and that Missouri is an actual state.

my friend and I watched this video together and we honestly thought it was fake or paid actors till i asked my friends daughter who is 20 years old the same questions and she could not answer them, she told me they were not taught this in school and they use their phones a lot in school, without the phone they are totally lost

And it was the work I was doing in 7th grade public school in the 90s. My youngest is in 5th grade. And half her class can't even do long addition/subtraction yet.

I answered who the SECOND President of the USA was, Capitol of Texas, who painted the Mona Lisa, which planet is closest to the sun, and a bunch of other random questions. Granted, these are not particularly difficult but they were things I've not talked about or or otherwise had brought up in my life for a very long time. NONE of these young people would have got them though.
Sometimes when a younger person like them doesn't know about something that should be common knowledge they tell me "Well, I've been out of school for a long time now." So I point out to them that I've been out of school MUCH longer than them, and I know these things. I'm 59.
I asked my 12yo all these questions while he's playing some game on his switch and he was able to answer them while distracted and was only thrown off by "how many months in the year have 28 days?"

I’m a military recruiter. I deal with this daily. I have kids who are eager to serve and they cannot pass the ASVAB test requirements. I feel bad for them, and I blame the public school system. Extremely low scores.
Time to lower the test scores again.
A buddy of mine graduated with honors and struggled to get a double digit score on the ASVAB. I remember I had a class with a guy, who actually made it into the NBA, and since he could only play if he was passing we got huge learning curves. Putting your name on the paper was 30% of your overall grade. You didn’t have to know half the material to pass.
After I graduated, I spoke to one of my old teachers who would give me +10 points on tests/quizzes/homework if I wore pink floyd or classic rock shirts. She said she was instructed to “help” students get their grades up and curves was the only thing they could do. We had seniors in high school that could barely read/write; if they eliminated curves and make-up tests then half our class would have failed history. Oh, and I had a teacher who was also a coach who would read the test out loud and tell you the answers and let you write them down. I loved it then but holy hell that was sad. Last I heard he still does it. I know the military has to hate it. You got to have at least some common sense if peoples lives are on the line. And all this was in 2006-2010

@@stanktatiousd7732yeah curves was crazy the average score on one test in my biology class was 66% also that used to be a D but now its failing ( when I was growing up they changed the grading system a 59% was F now its 69%), but anyways because of the curve everyone got like Bs because like a few people out of all of his classes got As and everyone else failed I got a 78 nothing to particularly brag about but I ended up with an A
This is an example of how some schools only teach students how to be an obediant servant in a school/job/prison (all the same thing) institution.
Gender studies is really paying off for them.
Blame horrible parents just as much you would the schools. They didn’t instill any responsibility in their kids and they don’t care to pay attention at school. We DO learn this stuff in school, but you can look around at your fellow students and see for yourself just how many don’t care to learn.

I’m 17 and homeschooled. I could have answered all of these 7 years ago. My sister (14) can also answer all of these without hesitating. So sad to see the world my generation is going to live in :(

They look at the 'race', 'gender' and 'gender identity' and if they match the 'diversity index', they are hired.
The way things are going, my guess is the hiring manager boasts an IQ only a few points higher than these folks. Fast food places don't mess up orders all the time because they're a well staffed place.
as a former GM of several retail locatins, I would ask this question. "In front of me is a sealed can. Inside that can are the traits that best describe you. The label on the can says (the candidates first name) and I want you to tell me what is inside this can?" Holy Crap the answers I would get. I actually had one person tell me "Cristal and pot".... lol. A black female (dressed very provocative) replied "Dark Chocolate and Strawberries so you can eat me up" and then slid her tong across her lips. I would end the interview with ridiculous answers 99% of the people who answer with Honesty, Integrity... etc I would hire. I got to the point during a holiday build up and on the spot interviews I would have my admin assistant take each candidate into an office to "verify" the paperwork. She would call. me and I would walk in, apologize for the interruption. I would then ask how the "interview" was going and then ask the question. Depending on the answer, I would reply "Robin has a few more questions for you or Robin will need to get just a bit more information so we can offer you a job and get you started." It was the easiest holiday season ever. I'll admit I was actually asked that question back in 1994 by someone who hired me for me first manager job.
