- This week we have a cracker of a video for you, its a factory tour of Dr Martens UK Factory in Northamptonshire. I went to visit Dr Martens back in October 2019 to see how they make their boots and shoes.
Not all the Dr Marten boots that are available come from the UK factory, only a select few of their line. If you are wondering which ones are made in the UK when you are in the shop buying a pair, they state it on the box. It says Made in England and I am pretty sure if they are in the a maroon coloured box, they will have been manufactured in the UK. Although the majority of there boots and shoes are not made in the UK, they still turn out over 100,000 pairs per year. That's a lot of that famous YELLOW stitch, which is actually trademarked by Dr Marten.
The video shows the entire process of manufacturing the boots from start to finish. It goes through cutting the leather, stitching the boot, forming the leather and adding the rubber sole. I have to put a disclaimer in here, unfortunately I did not follow a single pair through the entire process. That is due to the batch manufacture process they use and therefore following a single pair wasn't possible at the time. But the procedures are the same for all the boots.
Thanks Dr Marten for letting into your factory to film and to Steve for showing me round.

I work in a UK Dr Martens store and I own lots of the MIEs, it's so cool knowing these are the people who probably all worked to make my shoes!
It's really cool to see how they're made. Dr Martens has been one of my favourite factories I have visited.
Do you have a 3989 Cherry Red VINTAGE MADE IN ENGLAND BROGUE SHOES?
@@chaddy7714 I do but they're a size 5!
@poppy rendall uhhhh. I'm a 10.
Thank you for that. Great to see. I have a pair of 1460 made in that factory. I would love to see how they are made in the Asian factories, but have not found any on youtube. 👍
Glad you like it!
Craftsmanship at its very best

British precision achieved using German sewing machines. Nice.
I didn't know they were German machines, nice pieces of kit!
Rivals in WWII, when together they should have conquered the world! 😀
Doc martens "made in england" 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏👏👏👏❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
All I know is that every pair I’ve had that said made in Vietnam, was defect… not just Dr. Martens, but every brand, defect if made in Vietnam. Even the China pairs are higher quality. Always the shoeeyelits, never symmetrical. Always uneven on one or both shoes, one shoe being taller than the other, and it seems it’s how the upper is being comnected to the sole that’s the issuebaw to why it’s crocked or not symmetrical, and it’s realy visible!
Brilliant minds 👌
Wow
what I don't understand till this day:
NPS shoes produced the shoes in their factory under the brand Doc Martens till '93 or '95 (license expired then?).
So: who produced them after '93 / '95 until the production went overseas?
And who exactly makes the more expensive 'made in England' now?
Are they made at NPS again...?
Nice!
✨💪💛💞✨
The Asian made pairs are horrible. I’ve had 3 of the actual Made in England pairs over the past 25 yrs. I do need another pair but the originals are getting harder and harder to find in my size (Men’s US 12) , not to mention the re-sell value is ASTRONOMICAL right now
I’ve can’t comment on the Asian made pairs but the British ones are brill. Mine are going strong after a good few years, not quite 25!
I am operator
So Easy to make. So damned expancive
Solovair are better 😎
About the same, the solovairs felt nice but somehow the MIE docs looked better on my foot so I went with them. Will last forever
