These are great songs about fathers but building on that theme you can't leave out Coal Miners Daughter by Lauretta Lynn or Reba Mcentire's The Greatest Man I Never Knew
This song always gets to me. When we buried my dad’s dad, I watched the strongest man I’ve ever known break down inconsolably crying for the loss of his dad. I did my best to stay strong for him. After the funeral, when I got into my truck, the first song that came on the radio was “That’s my job”. It destroyed me. I just sat in my truck crying my eyes out listening to it play. Still, to this day, anytime I hear it, tears will well up in my eyes and that sucks because I absolutely love this song. I guess that’s the nature of the beast.
Damn it guys! I haven't heard this in years. And I sit down to watch with a picture of me and my son when he was 5 hanging on the wall in front of me! I couldn't stop the damn tears!! He is 16 now but I always see that 5yr little boy needing daddy's help!
When in my 30's....years before my Daddy (a big black man who loved Conway Twitty..Charley Pride...Tom T. Hall...Johnny Cash..) passed, we were jokin' n teasin' as we often did and I suddenly thought...what would I do without him? And I was overwhelmed...and said it aloud. Daddy hugged me and kissed me and admonished me all in the same breath..."gal you'll be fine...you won't have no choice...you got a family depending on you just like you depended on me!" I said okay...maybe..but I tell you now...I WILL NOT be at your service. He said, " that's okay baby...I'm only gonna be there cause I have to....". And he tickled me like when I was 5. My dad did his job....made the hardest day of my life easier.....cause the day I found out he was gone forever....I was immediately comforted by the memory of hugs kisses and a serious conversation that dissolved into laughter and love. Gotta 💕 real country. always keepin' it real.
Awwwe Thank y'all very much .....it felt a little like an over share.....but if it encourages parents to prepare kids by reminding them they will love them forever....even when they've become angels, then I'm ok with it.😇
Conway Twitty is not talked about enough in country music today. he truly is one of the greatest. another artist not talked about but is great is eddie rabbit. some of his best are, "driving my life away", "I love a rainy night", "someone could lose a heart tonight", & "step by step".
Gage Griffin omg I love that song. I thing a raw recording is the only thing that exists and I love it. He was amazing! I love the catchy Miami, My Amy.
I always say when I hear Maddie & Tay’s, “Girl In a Country Song.” “Conway and George Straight never did it this way.” Ha. Clearly they ain’t never heard, “Tight Fittin’ Jeans,” literally about sleeping with a married woman!
My Dad is still alive (early 60s), but every time I hear this song, I'm reminded of his mortality and it makes me sad to think about a world without him. I'm sure I'm not the only one who goes through that as we (and they) get older.
I'm right there with you, my dad's in his early 50's but i know he'll be gone someday and that crushes me to no end..i hate this song but I love it so much more just because of the way it makes me feel.
My mother absolutely love Conway Twitty. I grew up listening to him. She always said he had bedroom eyes, never knew what that meant until I got a bit older. 😏 He has so many great songs! Happy to see this. Love you guys...devoted fan. Js!
I shouldn’t have listened to this today. I put my daughter and three month granddaughter on a plane to North Carolina this morning at five am from Spokane. Her husband got a job with the tar heals. Letting her grow up and being with her man, guess that’s my job. Still sad. Wife came in and caught me crying. Lol that’s my job too.
I know your pain brother. Four years ago my daughter took her one year old daughter and husband and moved from Colorado to Savannah, Georgia. And then had my grandson. I see them only once a year. Stinks, but it's my job.
This was my song to my daddy. He was an amazing man. I lost him almost 10 months ago. I was a daddy’s girl and I miss him so much. He was everything to me.
I've love this song since I was a teen (20 years ago), it's always held a place in my heart. The older I've gotten, the more times my dad has saved me, has been there for me, held my hand, cried with me... the more it means. I cry everytime I hear it
I know I'm late to the party on this, but I'm so glad you guys did this song. Love your channel btw. When my Dad passed when I was 20, I listened to a lot of music to help me cope and I heard this song for the first time. I've heard a lot of songs of love for loved ones passing away, but never for a son/father relationship. It spoke to me on so many levels as I had similar experiences as a child and conflicts with him as a teenager. This song holds a special place in my heart and I'm just very appreciative of you guys for reacting to it. God Bless!

I have stage 3 colon cancer and gotta go through 6 months of chemo twice a month and I pray God pulls me through this so I will have more time with my son !!!
Can’t listen to this song without shedding some tears. My Dad used to sing this to my sister and I when we were kids. Now as I am expecting my first child I’m starting to really understand this song a little bit more, it really hits home. Conway is a legend.
Just stumbled upon your channel tonight and applaud you to being open to all genres and so glad to see this song reviewed. Soo, I have a Dad, who didn't have to be one, if you follow, and even though he grew up in the city...he's more country than my mother's family who actually is from a small town. So at the same time my dad was teaching me to drive, I was listening to all the country legends like my dad's "girlfriend", Loretta and of course Conway. When I heard this as a kid, it of course brought me to tears because of every little thing my dad did (and still does for me) that he didn't HAVE TO do. It became our thing....Dad would do something and I would say, "Thanks Dad!" and he would reply...and of course still does, with, "hey... that's my job, that's what I do". I've always been convinced since my dad came into my life that he would rope the moon and give it to me...because of how dedicated he is to his "job". Ironically, in all the times I've heard this song, never until here, did I fully understand that in the last verse that was the son saying it was his job, he was doing what he does (for a living) to respect his dad and keep him close, so thank you for opening my eyes to that. As an only child, when my parents do recognize something I have done that didn't have to, or even in general, I of course respond with "that's my job, it's what I do" :) Mad props to all the Dads who put in the time and the effort, because that's what THEY do, and especially to the ones who CHOSE that job. (and btw I think this may have touched yall more than you want to admit lol.) Thanks for the smile.
That song reminds me of my son and husband. I’m husband raised my son since he was 1 now he’s 22 and he was the man in his life and took care of him so these songs just tear me up. I agree on the brad paisley song I’m also from WV like brad so that song also has a little more of meaning for us from WV
Thank you guys for playing this. Lost my daddy in 2018. This is my mom and dads music. Made me cry. I am still grieving over him being gone. But I was a daddys girl. This song is how my daddy was. He was such an amazing father. Lol im crying as I'm tying I did fight him over what I wanted to do when I grew up. He new better of course lol.
Check out Conway's last recording, Rainy Night in Georgia with Sam Moore. Y'all have got to react to Alan Jackson- Here in the Real World, Someday, Wanted, Midnight in Montgomery...
I don't usually post a comment but you both are genuinely exploring outside your genre box which is cool. You like a great story line listen to Diamond Rio " I Believe.

Joe Diffie.. "Ships that Don't Come In"
I love the way ya'all explain the lyrics of the song from your own points of views. Your explanations are an eye opener. Great job! ❤
Can’t listen to this song without shedding some tears. My Dad used to sing this to my sister and I when we were kids. Now as I am expecting my first child I’m starting to really understand this song a little bit more, it really hits home. Conway is a legend.
Don Williams “I Believe In You”
I've been wanting them to do Don Williams for so long now. I hope it happens. "Good Ole Boys Like Me" is another great song by Don.
never heard a bad doing by don williams

Conway Twitty - Louisiana woman Mississippi man!
Such a classic Duet with Loretta!

Yes!!!!
"Cats in the Cradle" (1974) by Harry Chapin is another father/son song, although this song has a bit of a sad message to learn from.
John Anderson - Seminole Wind
Adam Price Absolutely

"Wish I would have been there"
Adam Price All day EVERYDAY!
Love John Anderson

That song reminds me of my son and husband. I’m husband raised my son since he was 1 now he’s 22 and he was the man in his life and took care of him so these songs just tear me up. I agree on the brad paisley song I’m also from WV like brad so that song also has a little more of meaning for us from WV

He was such an amazing father. Lol im crying as I'm tying I did fight him over what I wanted to do when I grew up. He new better of course lol.
You know its a great song, talented voice, and powerful storytelling when the 2 reviewers just listen, smile, and nod their heads.

I just discovered y’all! Love your commentary! There are many country songs that shine lots of love on dads. My dad was a farmer and died in ‘99. Ironically he didn’t listen to country. His favorite band was ZZ Top. Keep up the great work and God Bless!
This is the song my dad has for my ring tone. Makes me Cry when I hear it... Love my Pops!
Oh my gods, I'm crying. Dang country music.
