Thanks for the review. My husband wrote this song and it’s based on a true story. Chris was an awesome person and good friend. He was definitely the real deal.
Cindy, I have to tell you... as a 16 year old kid growing up in Nebraska, this is the song that really pulled me into country music. It proved to me that country music can be badass and poetic at the same time. I'm 37 now and still listen to this song, it'll always bring me back to a bonfire on the sandbar of the Missouri river, drinking beer with some of my closest friends. Jake was a big part of my childhood and I didn't even know it.
I got to meet Chris when I was a young boy. He was such a nice person and he let me carry his rig to the mounting area. He climbed on the rankest bull I've ever seen and he pulled off an 8 second ride. As he came off he gave me his cowboy hat. I still have it today.
Chris was one of the very few country singers of the last few decades who actually walked the walk. He was never truly mainstream because he stuck to his roots in Wyoming and never really played by the rules in Nashville. But he’s quite possibly the most popular “independent” country singer of all time and is beloved by the community. His son Ned is carrying on his legacy these days.
yep... saw him 5x in concert, he was always amazing and one of the most entertaining performers that were was and never got the real recognition he deserved! RIP Chris

Chris Ledoux was a real rodeo badass. He was champion cowboy and began singing to entertain his friends on the rodeo circuit. He was basically only famous around the rodeo. In 1989, Garth Brooks released“ Much too young to feel this damn old” There is a line in the song where he mentions “ a worn out tape of Chris Ledoux, lonely women and bad booze seem to be the only friends I’ve left at all” people who’d never heard of Chris Ledoux wanted to know who he was. Chris had only one wife and several children that they raised in a log house that Chris built himself. Sadly in 2005 Chris lost his battle with cancer. In a side note Chris Ledoux wrote and recorded the song “Amarillo by morning” a song that George Strait had a smash hit with a few years later.
I grew up on working cattle ranches in West Texas and around rodeos. I remember when the only place you could buy his albums was in feed stores and western wear stores. Chris was part of my early music loves. He didn’t write Amarillo By Morning. That was written by Terry Stafford and Paul Fraser a truck driver from Amarillo.
Y'all knocked me out reacting to Chris Ledoux. I loved that guy. He was a total original, and wrote very personal songs. One of my favorites you might try is "Western Skies", where he directly answers "why won't you just act like all the other country stars?" Thanks. This was a good experience.
Chris Ledoux!! Loved this video. Chris was a world champion cowboy as someone said earlier. He got started in music selling tapes of his songs out of the back of his car at rodeos. He did get a small record deal before this guy named Garth Brooks mentioned him in a song. "Much Too Young To Feel This Damned Old" which is a song about the life of a rodeo cowboy. Chris was driving down the road one day and heard the line "A worn out tape of Chris Ledoux, lonely women and bad booze, seem to be the only friends I've left at all." and nearly drove off the road. It was then that his music career took off. He used to ride a mechanical bull/buckin' horse in his shows and was very entertaining live. He and Garth recorded a song together called "Whatcha Gonna Do With A Cowboy" and after his passing, Garth recorded a tribute song called "Good Ride Cowboy, Good Ride." Thank you!!!

Chris LeDoux is one of the most authentic musicians that ever lived. He lived the lifestyle of the cowboy life that he sang about from competing as a professional rodeo cowboy and selling his own tapes out of the back of his truck to supplement his rodeo career. He finally won the gold buckle as a champion bronc rider in 1976. He then retired from Rodeo to focus on his music career and raise his family on a ranch in Wyoming. He was an independent artist for nearly 20 years. It wasnt till late in his career that he finally signed a major record deal in Nashville after he was name dropped in Garth Brooks's debut single "Much to young to feel this damn Old". Alot of the songs he recorded were recycled songs from his independent days. At the same time that happened Chris had just recruited a new band that he named "Western Underground" who would be the ones responsible to creating the rodeo rock sound that LeDoux is known for today. His live shows were high energy and often concluded with Chris riding a mechanical bull and lots of pyrotechnics. Garth Brooks has admitted that he pretty much stole Chris's live show for his own. Chris's oldest son Ned LeDoux started playing drums for the band in the late 90's when their original drummer KW Turnbow was injured in an accident. When KW returned they performed with two drummers. Also at that time Chris battled liver cancer and undergone a transplant but eventually the cancer would eventually catch up to him and he'd pass away in 2005. After his death Western Underground continued to tour with a couple different front men to keep the spirit of Chris's songs alive. Then in 2015 Ned stepped out from behind the drums to fill his dads boots and has began his career with Western Underground backing him. Ned performs alot of his dads old songs and has also released an album of all new material. Some of the songs were written from some unused lyrics his mom found when cleaning up Chris's stuff. I suggest you dig some more into the catalog of Chris LeDoux and check out the new stuff his son Ned has put out. Ned sounds so much like his dad its scary!
My old man bought one of his tapes out the back of his truck wish we still had it sadly it was lost somewhere between home and one of his duty stations
Ice T said that the the thing country and rap artists have in common is that they both wear hats and jeans to the Grammys and they tell stories in their songs.
@@KurNorock Nah, there's still storyteller rappers out there, you just have to look a little harder to find them because that stuff doesn't sell records like the "lifestyle" trash that's on the radio today.
Have you heard any of his son's music? Ned Ledoux has been traveling with Western Underground. He sings some of his dad's songs, but is a good singer in his own rights.
Did you know Chris LeDoux actually recorded that song before George? Obviously George took it to great popularity, but y'all should check out Chris's recordering of it, if you've never heard it.
Excellent video, gentlemen. Chris is definitely one of the best of the "Cowboy Crooners". FYI - "....rope an ol Blue Norther..." A Blue Norther is a fast-moving cold front that causes temperatures to drop dramatically and quickly. Common characteristics are a dark blue-black sky, strong winds, and temperatures than can drop 20-30 degrees Fahrenheit in a few minutes. While Blue Northers can occur in other parts of the country, the phenomenon is commonly associated with the Texas panhandle.
Chris sang with such ease. His voice is so soothing. Such an amazing artist, a true cowboy. He lived the life he wrote about. Thank you guys for the incredible reaction.
Lisa Marie Hanson Absolutely. 1976 World’s Champion Bareback Bronc rider. The guy that sang You Just Can’t See Him From the Road. A real dude, for sure. Dang, I love Mr LeDoux, God rest his soul.
I am not a "Big" country fan although I do like a fair amount of country music, The writing and vocals, especially the harmonies, are consistently amazing.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for listening and reacting to my late husbands favorite country artist. 💕 My husband died 2 years ago, November 5th. He spent years trying to get me to love all of Chris' music and there were only a handful that I ended up really loving. This Cowboy's Hat was one of the 1st that I fell in love with. I love the message, the tempo, the way Chris has with words. I think my husband is happy I was a part of getting more people to listen to Chris Ledoux. 🤠
Let me start by saying how much I respect that you guys, regardless of knee jerk reactions on how you think a song will be, keep open minds and really listen to the music. It is surprising how much truly good music there is out there. I am a rock guy at heart, but when I listen to country I listen to Chris. His songs are always really deep or just plain fun. You should check out either "Photo Finish" or "Billy the Kid" (my favorite song by Chris). Another interesting factoid, he was best friends with Garth Brooks, and after his death Garth came out of retirement to perform a tribute to him called "Good Ride Cowboy". He uses titles of Chris Ledoux's songs as the lyrics all throughout it. It is a really good song as well. You may want to check that one out as well.
Just for record... Chris Ledoux was the real deal. He was the cowboys cowboy. He rode rodeo in real life and was a cowboy first singer second. Garth brooks got his ideas and live style from Chris and also famously drops his name in his hit song. Alot of times record labels create a image which is fine you just enjoy the music thats what its all about. But if Chris said dont touch my hat and you proceeded well...then you probably should prepare for a ass woopin.. Not a poser the real deal god bless and RIP CHRIS LEDOUX.
I met him several time and have an autographed copy of Gold Buckle Dreams. He was SO the real deal. Kind and friendly, took a REAL interest in his fans. Took time to actually talk to us. I loved him so much
For Veteran's Day -- Letters From Home by John Michael Montgomery, 'Til The Last Shot's Fired by Trace Adkins, and Travelin' Soldier by the Dixie Chicks.
This was new to me, and really impressed me as well. Besides the meaning, I loved the poetic chorus. Those lyrics reminded me of that old country/western classic "Ghost Riders In the Sky", which was beloved by a dear friend of mine because her dad loved it so much. After her dad died, we'd occasionally hear it somewhere & she'd say "That's Dad letting me know he's thinking of me." Now she's gone, way too young at 52, and that song always makes me miss her. So did this song in a way. Really enjoyed your reaction, guys. And love you, Cindy, wherever you are.
My sister used to sing country music professionally, so we used to go to a lot of her shows for moral support. One regular show had an amazing banjo player who'd sometimes take requests for Ghost Riders in the Sky, and it always gave me chills. To this day, I sometimes put it on just to get that good, shivery feeling. I'm sorry for your losses and don't mean to take away from that at all. Just glad to see someone else loving songs I love, though for very different (much better) reasons.
So I've showed my friends your cast and they can't stop watching because you guys are true to the channel. Your open to good music and that's evident. Your reactions are classic! Your bridging the great divide between music stereotypes and we all appreciate your contributions. Keep it up!!
Chris LeDoux, another under appreciated artist. Garth Brooks thinks highly of him. Another under appreciated artist you guys need to check out is Radney Foster. His album Del Rio Texas 1959 has a bunch of great songs, Went for a Ride, Louisiana Blue, A Fine Line, Closing Time, Old Silver, etc.
totally agree with Coward of The county. In fact that song came to my mind listening to the reaction comments about this one. Coward of the county is like a mini movie in a song.
This is one of those songs that I just find it so hard to believe that not everybody has heard a million times. I can’t imagine life without growing up without the music of Chris LeDoux. R.I.P. Chis LeDoux and thanks for all the great memories.
I'm not sure that they would, since they don't really know Hank Sr. Hank Sr. and Alan Jackson are two of my most favorite artists, but I never really cared much for Midnight in Montgomery. It's a good song, but not one that I care to listen to.
No, Midnight in Montgomery and George's Who's Going to Fill Their Shoes are two songs I'd never suggest a reaction to. The whole meaning of these songs is knowing all the allusions and references they contain. If you don't know the history of Hank or Country music in general, they don't make much sense. Same with DAC's The Ride. Great songs, but not for this purpose.
Thank you!!! This really shows y'all are so open minded. Chris LeDoux was not a country singer really. He was a cowboy singer and a real cowboy. He lived the life he sang about, rodeos and ranching. He died in March 2005. He started out making his own CD's and selling them at rodeos. He never fit the country mold and wouldn't cave to corporate radio as to what his music should sound like, and to this day he is not played much on main stream country radio. He is one of the best story tellers and has countless songs that are amazing. If y'all react to more of Chris's songs, check out "Riding For a Fall," "Songs of Wyoming," "Powder River Home," and "The Ride," just to name a few.
@@dantelabella9753I'm guessing you're saying western is greater than country? And western is cowboy songs? If I'm reading that right, then I agree. I love country, but cowboy poets and singers are a lost art nowadays.
I want to say thank you for this review from the bottom of my heart. It made me look into Chris Ledoux more, and find some songs that really resonated with who my Dad was and the way he went about life. Specifically the song "(I used to want to be a) Cowboy" and how I can see the ways my own Dad went about life now and how's that's reflected in me in the few years since he's been gone.
Chris LeDoux has an interesting story, he was an NFR Saddle Bronc Champion and sold self produced tapes on the rodeo circuit while competing. The CMT documentary on UA-cam on him is good.
Y’all oughtta react to Charlie Pride, you will be really surprised of his story and that he was even relevant in country considering the time period and racial issues that were present 👌. I feel like a lot of the black community don’t even know about Black Country artists that existed and still down country without listening to the older music. It’s pretty cool
Some of the countries people i know were old black folks hanging around fellow white folks, when you live in a small street town, racial issues where never a big problem they were there, but everybodys just trying to survive and live
Devin Mccurry it wasn’t meant for us small town country people , cuz I totally agreee with ya, I meant more of the newer generation that hear all the false shit on the media that translates to them hating on the small town country folk like us

So rare to see, you give a lot of joy to people guys. Keep it up. I'm so happy that you react to various kind of music, let's take Metallica ( I've been always the biggest fan, going to gigs and stuff), I'd recommend to go to their live show, you will get a new appreciation to their music. They just hit you with huge metal hammer in your balls, and you're happy like a kid... I'd like to recommend you some European older stuff, for example The Cure - Disintegration or one hundred years - it's british dark wave of the 80', Depeche Mode - I'm taking a ride with my best friend, or try walking in my shoes, or finally something hardcore - The Prodigy _ Firestarter, Poison and the best of Massive Attack - Unfinished sympathy. These songs were huuuuuge back in the 80' and 90' on EU scene. keep up the great work guys, hope to visit Las Vegas someday. Greetings from Poland
Chris Ledoux was always my favorite. He was a real cowboy and sang what he knew. It made his songs sound genuine, which is something often lacking in music today. I almost didn't click on this video because I didn't want to see someone making fun or being disrespectful of who he was and, with reaction videos, you never know what you're going to get. After seeing the way you handled this one, I went back and watched some of your other videos. I just clicked subscribe. :) Keep up the good work guys and thanks for being so open minded.
Chris was not so much of a radio star but a rodeo legend. He was the embodiment of western in his life and his music. Some of the best concerts I have ever been to were his in a rodeo arena after getting my butt kicked by a bull.

If you like this react to George Strait - The Chair. Similar monologue story but also the greatest pickup line in the history of mankind you will not be disappointed
Good job guys. As an FYI...Chris Ledoux is Western, not country. Country, western, blue grass, and folk music were condensed under the umbrella of "country" as a category by radio stations because it "simplified" the genre. There are a lot of musical differences between these groups. In today's era of country, there are a lot of hybrids now that encompass all of these different styles, but I can say that Chris Ledoux is pure WESTERN and he never wanted to stray from that. On a side note, I'd like to hear you all react to Mr. Bojangles by Jerry Jeff Walker, or Dixie Chicken by Little Feat.

I am SO happy you finally did this song!!!!!
R.I.P. Chris, missing your music still.
Have you heard any of his son's music? Ned Ledoux has been traveling with Western Underground. He sings some of his dad's songs, but is a good singer in his own rights.
I hope they do Letters From Home by John Michael Montgomery for Veterans Day!
Simply Adventures good song and idea
👍👍
Yes, my favorite song
Yes that’d be awesome
Please letters from home
George Strait - Amarillo By Morning
Yes please @lostinvegas
Did you know Chris LeDoux actually recorded that song before George? Obviously George took it to great popularity, but y'all should check out Chris's recordering of it, if you've never heard it.
Yes! That song is the embodiment of country music
Or 8 second ride.
Yes. Yes. And yes. That’s my jam with my sister.
R.I.P. Chris LeDoux! My all time favorite country artist.
Excellent video, gentlemen. Chris is definitely one of the best of the "Cowboy Crooners".
FYI - "....rope an ol Blue Norther..."
A Blue Norther is a fast-moving cold front that causes temperatures to drop dramatically and quickly. Common characteristics are a dark blue-black sky, strong winds, and temperatures than can drop 20-30 degrees Fahrenheit in a few minutes.
While Blue Northers can occur in other parts of the country, the phenomenon is commonly associated with the Texas panhandle.
They're also known for dumping large amounts of precipitation, hence the "milk it 'til it's dry" line as well.
My husband died 2 years ago, November 5th.
This is a great choice guys. Great reaction.
Chris wasn't a poser ... he was an honest to God Rodeo star - RIP Chris
I loved him so much
For Veteran's Day -- Letters From Home by John Michael Montgomery, 'Til The Last Shot's Fired by Trace Adkins, and Travelin' Soldier by the Dixie Chicks.
and 8th of november by big and rich
Another good one for veterans day would be tim mcgraw's "if you're reading this"
Touching a man's hat is like spitting on him...whether it has sentimental value or not.
You got it!
RIP Chris LeDoux
This song was just MADE to be reacted to.
Randy Travis - Three Wooden Crosses
Ya'll do a great job at breaking these things down, man, and we sure do appreciate it! Hell of a job!!
Seven Spanish Angels - Willie Nelson and Ray Charles. GREAT SONG
33 or 45 degree angles ? :)
@@mrtips2175 Haha I was thinking 90 degree angles actually! I fixed it, thanks, that was just a test to see who was paying attention 😂
Excellent choice on the song. Still waiting to see you review Chris Knight - Down the River.
@@tyrod28 :) :)
Great song, they may have heard it though because of Ray Charles
Thanks for doing Chris Ledoux. He was a great writer and entertainer.
I appreciate your respect for both artist, writer and singer.
Country is a way of life .
El Paso by Marty Robbins!
Yes yes yes
They said they like how country tells a story. This is the perfect story song.
Big iron is just as great
This would be a great one to visit!
Yes ! Excellent idea. Needs to happen.
Radney's song Angel Flight will leave any grown man in tears.
Its a shame he passed away
It's nice to see other people who know true country
Or Coward of the County by Kenny Rogers great songs...... now I've been following y'all for a while now so please fellas keep up the good work
Great story in this song
@@robbyburnett9066 definitely and I know they would get a kick out of it
totally agree with Coward of The county. In fact that song came to my mind listening to the reaction comments about this one. Coward of the county is like a mini movie in a song.
Man, I havent listened to that one in a while. Away I go!
@@BelindaTN there actually is a movie based on the song. Same name.
I've been listening to Chris ladoux for 20 plus yrs. Good to see some new love for an awesome artist.
Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard-Pancho and Lefty
Great song. Not as good as Seven Spanish Angels with Ray Charles
I like Townes Van Zandt's version better. From the Heartworn Highway.
@@Gutslinger - Griffith did nothing wrong.
Waterboy '97 Love that song
Do some Marty Robbins, some more good old school cowboy stuff. Big Iron is my favorite of his songs.
Mr Shorty
I appreciate you guys. Three years later, we need this now more than ever. God bless!
Been waiting forever for this!!!!
George said "bicycle gang" and I about lost it.
I swallowing water and I near damn choked! Funny stuff man!
as did I lmao
He was just speaking freely and slipped up hahah, y'all knew what he meant
This is one of those songs that I just find it so hard to believe that not everybody has heard a million times. I can’t imagine life without growing up without the music of Chris LeDoux. R.I.P. Chis LeDoux and thanks for all the great memories.
React to John Anderson “Seminole Wind” great song!!
Jason Gardner Yeah id really like to see that. Amazing song.
Would be great
Amazing song.
Yes!
Yesss
Midnight in Montgomery by Alan Jackson. I feel you guys would truly appreciate the story the song depicts.
This is definitely a track they'd be into. I second this recommendation.
I'm not sure that they would, since they don't really know Hank Sr.
Hank Sr. and Alan Jackson are two of my most favorite artists, but I never really cared much for Midnight in Montgomery. It's a good song, but not one that I care to listen to.
Yesss
No, Midnight in Montgomery and George's Who's Going to Fill Their Shoes are two songs I'd never suggest a reaction to. The whole meaning of these songs is knowing all the allusions and references they contain. If you don't know the history of Hank or Country music in general, they don't make much sense. Same with DAC's The Ride. Great songs, but not for this purpose.
So great to see this. Chris was a true cowboy who sang how he felt and influenced so many people
Kenny Rogers - coward of the county, Reba McEntire - Fancy, Randy Travis - Three Wooden Crosses.
Riding with private Malone by David ball
Cw Hobbs I second this!
Yes
Oh for sure
What a fantastic song that one is. And also it's just begging to be reacted to.
Seconded! Or, sixth'ed? Whatever, i agree!
Thanks for the review and God bless Chris Ledoux!! I love your videos
@@markmiller6920 It ain't a lost art, you just can't seem 'em from the road!
One of my favorite songs by Chris.
I want to say thank you for this review from the bottom of my heart. It made me look into Chris Ledoux more, and find some songs that really resonated with who my Dad was and the way he went about life. Specifically the song "(I used to want to be a) Cowboy" and how I can see the ways my own Dad went about life now and how's that's reflected in me in the few years since he's been gone.
mama tried "merle haggard" really good song with a good story too"
Totally a great story. Yes.
Or "Sing Me Back Home"
@@scottbell5822 hall yes
Hell yeah
Indeed a classic
Chris is known not just for his fantastic bronc riding and song writing but as a cowboys cowboy.....
The cowboy hat can't just be bought it's earned
I really appreciated all you do to keep a open dialogue. You guys have a postive message, thats rare these days. Keep it out, we need each other.
Chris LeDoux was the King, George Straight is amazing but LeDoux sang about real people. RIP
I try to tell people that all the Time
Chris LeDoux has an interesting story, he was an NFR Saddle Bronc Champion and sold self produced tapes on the rodeo circuit while competing. The CMT documentary on UA-cam on him is good.
If you think George Strait didn't talk about real people you're crazy
El Rey is George Strait
Y’all oughtta react to Charlie Pride, you will be really surprised of his story and that he was even relevant in country considering the time period and racial issues that were present 👌. I feel like a lot of the black community don’t even know about Black Country artists that existed and still down country without listening to the older music. It’s pretty cool
Some of the countries people i know were old black folks hanging around fellow white folks, when you live in a small street town, racial issues where never a big problem they were there, but everybodys just trying to survive and live
Devin Mccurry it wasn’t meant for us small town country people , cuz I totally agreee with ya, I meant more of the newer generation that hear all the false shit on the media that translates to them hating on the small town country folk like us
I live in Wyoming where Chris had a home and was a wonderful person. He lived in Kaycee Wyoming ! There is a beautiful memorial park in his name . This is country underground. His son Chris Ledoux keeps his memory alive. Thank you for sharing his story he is still a legend here .
Check out David Ball. Riding with Privet Malone.
That is one of the few songs that can guarantee I will be bawling by the end. Awesome song/story.
Great recommendation! That is always on my veterans/memorial day playlist, as is Jason Isbell's Dress Blues.
What she called a Chevy was a 66 corvette
Yes
That's a really good one
All right guys! I found your channel accidentally but I've spent here like the whole day! Thanks for making this possible. I just love how you react and how huge flow of joy comes from you both.
Same happened to me. I have spent all night watching. ha ha
Cowboy poetry. 👍🏻 Chris is a king.
May he rest in peace always
Amén to you both.
Dam what a pleasant surprise never heard that song I listen to a lot of country very good song thanks for picking it
Chris was not so much of a radio star but a rodeo legend. He was the embodiment of western in his life and his music. Some of the best concerts I have ever been to were his in a rodeo arena after getting my butt kicked by a bull.
Chris was my favorite storyteller.
This song always, always, always gives me goosebumps when it gets to the chorus
Completely love your reaction to this. Y'all are awesome :-)
You Guys need to hear "Ships that don't come in"

Great review and much respect, Brothers. Met Chris in Pine Bluffs, WY at a Subway. While he was small in stature, he was a giant of a great man. RIP.
Listen to pancho and lefty by willie Nelson and Merle haggard it’s a classic and the story is great

Gary Allan "Right Where I Need To Be". Yall need some faster paced country. It's not all so slow and sad. I think you guys would dig this big time.
Apparently you don't touch a cowboy's hat. 21 years old and drunk as a sunk I asked to wear a cowboys hat at the stockyards in Fort Worth and my friends were worried for my life. Never heard this song before but the review made me laugh
You don't touch a cowboy's hat. You don't sit an a biker's motorcycle or touch his leathers. You don't kick a Southerner's dog.
@@TM-xr5ue duly noted 😂👍
"You don't tug on Super Man's cape. You don't spit into the wind. You don't pull the mask off the ole Lone Ranger...and you don't mess around with Jim". ----Jim Croce
Only person that can try on a cowboys hat is a cowgirl, but that means she’s going home with ya!! Haha.
Y'all, I swear I have learned since then 😂
So I am a white dude who grew up with divorced parents and split my time living half in the country, and half in the hood and thus has always known that “people are people.” As an adult I live and work in both worlds. I am amazingly blessed to have lifelong friends from every culture. I have loved Chris LeDoux for years one of my absolutely all time favorite artists and love you guys and this channel. This makes me so happy you guys did this song and “get it” FREE THINKERS get it. There is wisdom everywhere, I love all types of country AND can recite very word to rappers delight. Skin color doesn’t matter, people are people and great stories in music regardless of genre or race of artist can MOVE us to be better people. Thank you for breaking down walls and stereotypes!
Yessss!
OMG! I love Mr. Bojangles!
I can watch u guys all day

Great video fellas, nice to see you both touched by one of my all time favorites and a true rugged American individualist.
I highly recommend you listen to another folk take he did, called "Yukon Rose". I think you'll love it.
