Fishing like this without a wire trace is not on mate. Especially after catching pike. You can get some super thin wire. Instead of leaving fish with hooks in their mouths.
How many bite offs and pike do you have to catch before switching over to at least a light wire trace Dan in an obviously pike infested river is the big question ?
I'm using 12lb or 20lb fluorocarbon as a trace for small Jack's, seems to be working well. The problem is sometimes when you put a wire trace on it puts them off completely, as long as your using single barbless hooks the pike seem to have no problem spitting the hooks.
Have you seen the pike spitting the hooks I doubt it I only ever use a wire trace where there are tons of pike because I care about them I wouldn't like to think that a pike has a weighted hook tethered in its mouth whether they can see the trace or not I put fish safety 1st my catch rate 2nd ..and that wasn't my question was it I'm still waiting for a comment from Dan as he said he was going to change to wire in his video because of the amount of pike and still didn't
@@mattgoodchild8215 yeah I've seen pike spit weighted jigs out, I've even caught them on the next cast! I've even had to move away from a swim because the same pike kept hitting my lures after catching it twice! How do you dropshot fish with wire traces?
People like you and Dan should take a leaf out of snagged bros or ginger fisherman's book their fish care is exceptional and the gear they use ....Dan the pike killer !!
@@mattgoodchild8215 you'd love to live near me! I live on an old hunting estate, people used to come from hundreds of miles to fish the loughs around here, this past 5 years we have seen a huge rise in Eastern Europeans emigrating here and they kill every single fish they catch without any sort of permit, every fish! Pike, perch, roach, bream, every fish, my local waters have been destroyed. I now have only 5 loughs I can fish, and the only reason there's any fish left in the private loughs is farmers threatening to shoot them!
It's not easy to do theses videos week in week out ,and be open to scrutiny,we all try to keep the pike safe ,I suppose sometimes we can all make a mistake,I don't think calling Dan a pike killer is fair. So I suppose a learning lesson for us all ,re traces and making sure our set up is always strong enough to be safe. So Dan keep the videos coming and don't be disheartened.
Honestly I love your videos but after the first bite off you should've switched over to a wire trace, complete piss take to leave that many hooks in fish not a good look for LMAB.
a trace wouldn't even affect the presentation of the craw you were throwing from how you set the rig up, literally no excuse for not using one here mate...
There is plenty of knottable wire out these days, no excuse anymore. There all at it, just watched a fox rage perch vid. Fishing light fluorocarbon with a twin treble jerkbait, wtf??? New anglers watching will think its the norm coming from "so called" experts!
You should be using some type of a trace Dan, you could have potentially killed 3 pike there. Not a good look for trying to conserve pike stocks, especially when they are under so much pressure from "the Eastern European locusts" who seem hell bent on destroying my sport!

Try thin 1*7 Titan when fishing for perch in pikewaters. I fish ultraclear lakes... Not a problem
