- I can't believe this stupid bait caught soo many big fish in the flooded conditions. I hit the bank this session with my hopes pretty low as we'd just had a cold front come in the night before. With that in mind I decided to "go for broke" and use a bait I'd never used before and a style of rigging called the "Stupid Tube" In the hopes of getting one or two bites and putting maybe one or two good fish on the bank. The sessions couldn't of gone any better. Enjoy!

Little story about the Thumbnail for this video. I did actually catch a pike from inside that pipe during the video, but when it came to transferring the files that clip as well as about 5 others corrupted and I lost the footage. After I caught the pike I decided this would be the thumbnail and was the only thumbnail I took this session. So even though the footage wasn't in the video we're stuck with this thumbnail. Tantalizing story 😂. So how'd you like the video?

@@brandsthatcreatelitter1648 realistically how much plastic bait is left in the water or banking as apposed to all the other shite floating about or dumped on the banking. Fisherman really don't want to lose lures but seems people don't give a crap about throwing that bottle away

Got to say, its so good seeing a UA-cam angler doing well thats not fixated on carp! There’s so many just hauling known fish out of over stocked lakes, its great to see some actual angling skill, water craft and verity on display in your videos. Keep it up mate 👍🏻

Good session Chris. Shows how knowledgeable you are at reading the areas to fish. Glad that you stopped the bike in time otherwise I guess the base over apex video would have given us all a laugh.!
Have you consider laminating a 50cm marking on to your net handle? Means you would always be able to measure the fish if you wanted to and seeing you use the net to land decent sized perch, it would always be immediately to hand.

You can also just use anthropometric data, which is what ancient measurements systems were based on. i.e Cubit the length between elbow and fingertip approx 18" (460mm).

@@The_ginger_fisherman You can also mark your rods with tape strips or permanent marker. I marked my rods every 10cm, the rest is guessing, and who cares about millimeters anyway?!^^

I found in flood on the ribble the chub were around minnow sholes we used to get the minnows going on maggot then use a big bunch on the hook for the chub which threw up minnows n maggots ,, great video will have a go with some lures for them. 👍

Just a bit of advice and cool way to fish all year round, In the rapid like area where you caught the perch at 7:30 In the video, I grab a small 5 or 6cm micro crankbait, I mainly use the rapala bx minnow or smaller, flick it out at the top of the rapids and let it flow down and let the fast water make the action for you, just don’t let the lure got too far and you’ll catch chub, perch and pike

I live in north central US and cracking tubes for river smallmouth is a way of life. Such an overlooked technique, but it always produces fish!
Tubes are a fantastic classic bait here in the states! One of my stanby's. Not flashy, but very effective. Put part of an Alka-Seltzer in it and hop it on the bottom is popular.
Dunno about use but I appreciate the little talk b4 u start fishing nobody usually tells good info about tackle and what to use

It is not surprise for me 🙂 winter jigging for chub is a classic. One of my favourite ways of fishing when the weather is cold and they have stopped to chase all the other types of lures
Tube bait is commonly use in North West Canada, especially those mini one that pair with 1- 3g jig. It is extremely effective, and all fish like it. You shell give a try.

Seem to be hard to find on the river calder where i fish. Would love to know what rivers/canals you fish, they look very productive and so clear in the summer!

Favourite moment 4:02 with your excitement at the first chub and landing it. For an angler that catches a load of really impressive fish Chris I really enjoy how you retain that “big kid” feeling when hooking and landing fish. I’m guessing these “stupid” soft baits also have an aroma/taste? I’ve used some similar for perch here in the Netherlands and they have a salty crayfish scent - meant to be great for perch but I’m a little bit behind your catch rate I must admit! Tight lines

Brilliant little bait and a great video with some stunning fish just a suggestion why don't you mark your landing net handle every 5cm so you can measure your fish without carrying any extra tackle
Nothing stupid about tube jigs.perfect crayfish imitation. I've caught many species on them . One of the best smallmouth bass lures of all time !

Been watching your vids for a while now and i really enjoy them but i keep getting the same question popping up in my head and that is, how do you go on getting all the permissions to fish all of these different locations or do you only fish known free waters? Keep up the good work.
Tube jigs are deadly multi-species baits here in Ontario , especially through the ice. A proper jig head imparts the best action and garners the strongest bite since the shank of the hook runs within the jig so the fish feel nothing but a big juicy chew.

in those conditions i find running a egg fly with some shot 3/4 foot up from the fly along the bottom of the slack gets the chub every time
I haven't seen those lures for years. My dad used to use those for pike fishing in the 80's/early 90's
Must over 30 years when I last used them, they were all the rage for a short time, might have been a shopping channel thing, I had a nice box full of the heads and the soft jellies, no idea where it went, probably used them and never saw them in the tackle shop.

You could try using a tungsten weight from a texas rig inside and then a 2/0 weedless hook. Might work

The only stupid thing in this video Chris is you trying to ride your bike over the deeper than you thought frozen puddle.😆 I'd say that stupid bait worked sublimely for you. In cold weather like that it's often quite surprising how Chub respond to an artificial bait. And they were all magnificent silvered winter fish too. That slack where you caught the smaller Perch always seems to be a banker peg for you. The Perch at the end though was absolutely magnificent. What incredible colours in the winter sunlight and what a beast. You should think about taking your scales and tape again because you have definitely caught bigger specimens earlier in the season. What a fantastic video mate. Red letter day!😀🎣

That stretch you was fishing for Perch, last summer I caught a 3.90lb Perch near the same exact location in the video, the fight it gave felt as if I had a pike 🤣
But yeah that whole stretch is my go to area for Pike/Perch my friend caught a 15-20lb Pike on the same stretch.
Do you use a wire trace when going for pike? Do you swap between wire and mono for other fish?
If I'm targeting pike in 90% of situations I use a wire trace unless I'm throwing really big baits then I use 80-100lb fluorocarbon. If I'm targeting perch with soft plastics I almost always just use fluorocarbon usually between 8 and 15lb depending on the conditions

Yes buddy especially this time of the year almost all my perch fishing is just dragging the bait across the bottom. They're really not moving much this time of year.
