  • While it may cost significantly less than PCGS and NGC, I think submitting coins to ANACS is a huge mistake. Even if the coin graded one or two points higher, more often than not the coin trades for less than a PCGS coin of the lower grade.
There are many great coins in ANACS holders, but the liquidity and market confidence is just not there.
    Do you agree?

I have to respectfully disagree this time brother. Yes it depends on the coin but I’ve found that on coins valued under $125 Anacs is a great option. When all payed on I’m at nearly $30 grading/ship/ins for Pcgs but as low as $13 for Anacs w the right special
    I’ve had monster upgrades form Anacs : 1835 1/2c from Xf45~ Au58 Pcgs and 1898 IHC Au58~ Ms64 bn
Every coin deserves its own determination.
I’ve had coins that just barely get dinged with details grades and those go in the Anacs pile. Ms63 Morgan and peace dollars also go in the Anacs pile
I don’t think there is a blanket consensus as per coin/ series about any of the 3 services that I would make. There’s too much nuance coin to coin
ICG is shit and I don’t include them in this conversation

I am a long time collector of nearly 60 years. The Walking Liberty Half Dollars is my favorite series of all time. From my experience, and in my opinion, ANACS has tightened up their grading standards in recent years. In 2007, I sent several coins to ANACS that in my opinion came back slightly overgraded. One of those was a 1921-D Walking Liberty Half Dollar. They gave it a VG-8, but in my opinion, it was no better than a Good-6. Last year, I cut that coin out of the original ANACS slab, and sent it to ANACS a 2nd time. This time it indeed came back a Good-6. However, I also have seen circulated key date Walkers in PCGS and NGC slabs that I also consider overgraded. For example, in my opinion, for a WLHD to qualify for an extremely fine 40 grade, the breastplate on Lady Liberty must be full and complete, and the feathers along the eagle's neckline must begin to show. However, I have seen XF40 WLHD's graded by both PCGS and NGC that don't have those two grading criteria. However, we are all better off WITH grading services available rather than NOT having them around at all. Still, to a large extent, it is a crapshoot no matter where I decide to send my coins to. It's just that the more expensive items should be sent to NGC or PCGS. And I feel safe sending coins to ANACS if they are worth less than $100-$120. Just my 2 cents worth for what it is.

I agree, there are a lot of UA-cam videos that I have watched where people are sending their ANACS graded coins in for crossover to PCGS and they are crossing over at the same grade and in a few cases jumped up a grade. A few have dropped a grade. For the most part they crossed at same grade. I hope ANACS gains more acceptance in the coin community as they have better prices and no membership, I also like their new curved holders. In any case PCGS and NGC have just become ridiculous with the fees they charge, especially for first strike or first day labels. 18 dollars for a label is just raping the collectors wallet, not to mention all the other outrageous prices for other services that take very little labor on their side to justify the price. They also grade Norfed Liberty Dollars which is a plus! PCGS and NGC will not grade these, just another disservice to the collectors community.

ANacs will attribute things that the other companies won't. They will also give a number grade on a details coin so there are reasons to use their service. I personally don't send coins in for grading to anyone.

I will always send my coins to ANACS regardless of public opinion. Why should anyone pay for expensive memberships and coin grading costs attributed to PCGS and NGC marketing? Obviously, the marketing has worked and they've managed to persuade public opinion but I will not be a participant. And if I sell a coin, the buyer can simply resubmit for a crossover evaluation if they wish. Stop buying into the hype people.

  • @numismaticstacker

I love ANACS however, you have to understand the Caliber of the coins you submit. For an example Abu Franklin half dollar you pay $20 for and it gets full Bell lines mint state 64 worth $45 you have a $13 grading fee and there's enough room for-profit and you can sell cheaper coins with ANACS holder's. Coins that are in 2 by 2 flips are uninteresting to buyers. When I have more expensive coins I like to send those to pcgs for sure

  • @derikmccarty1210

I think there’s several reasons where ANACS is an adequate place for collectors to send coins. But if you’re strictly referring to the premium a coin will bring in the “current” marketplace, then PCGS & NGC are you’re best options.

You're kidding dude, a 65 Morgan is NOT going to end up in an Anacs 67 Holder. Even finding a for sure 67 Morgan is a rarity itself. A 67 would have to be a super kick ass coin to end up in a 67 holder, an a 65 is not accidentally going to get a 67 grade by Anacs. Do you even imagine the financial liability for the Anacs guarantee to make an accident like that? Wouldn't happen.

I agree ANACS doesn't bring in as much as PCGS & NGC when selling but I can also say as of late my PCGS coins have been overgraded. Also seeing coins pass thru PCGS that should have had "Details" on the label. Not sure if due to PCGS being overwhelmed and backlogged or intentional for more business.

However when catch a auction on EBay that has a MS65 or higher but it’s only in a NHC holder I will still buy it. I would love to see Anacs start catching up with these two aforementioned companies in the sold listings. So far that isn’t happening. Enjoyed the video because I seen a new coin. @bignubnumismatics I just got a look at this video and let me say that I enjoy the content. However, I disagree with your statement that everyone decent left ANACS. You might find that many people at the other grading services would disagree with that sentiment as well. You might take a look at the reputations of JP Martin, Michael Fahey and John Roberts who makeup the Senior Staff at ANACS. I think you will find that they are very well respected by most of their peers in the numismatic field. I might also include that the graders at ANACS have been there for many years. I’m not sure where you were at 20 years ago, but much of ANACS’ staff had already been well respected members in the numismatic community even then.

Wow that square coin is awesome! I've not seen that before. Is that authentic or a restrike? Authentic at that price. Cool piece. So my overall PCGS costs for sending in 10 coins is $38. My overall cost for sending in Anacs was $16... so for any coin worth less than $100, I really don't see the purpose in spending the money for PCGS (plus 4 weeks wait for Anacs vs. 4 months for PCGS) is reason enough to not wait. To each their own, Anacs is what I consider to be the best value for the money. I also don't agree that Anacs grades "easier" but I know they have a reputation for it, I just haven't found it to be true. Great looking coins, thanks for sharing!

They graded one of the British Music legends coins as a PR68DCAM! I examined the coin under a microscope and I detected zero flaws! I cracked it out of the holder and sent it to NGC, it came back as a PR70 UCAM.
I send my coins exclusively to ANACS now. I've saved hundreds doing this. ANACS is the oldest coin grading company in the country and they do a fine job of grading. So quit your bellyaching brah.
