Jesus that 1917 type one, 63FH looks like an undergrade to me. Maybe the slightest amount of pvc but frankly i dont think i care. absolute stunner

1891 cc spitting eagle....and IMO the scratch is a staple scratch from removing from holder.
I just purchased a 1921 Peace Dollar in an ANACS holder from a Dealer and it is "AU 50 Details Cleaned" For the Life of me! I cannot see how this coin was cleaned! It's a beauty, nice tone no real scratch's, a few small dings from other coins. I'm very happy with it but again I cannot see what the grader saw!
When you have a coin that is PL, they should tell you whether the coin missed on the PL or the number grade.

you should crack out that 1917 and dip it to see if itll take the pvc off and straight grade after?
Excellent video. Thumb's up! Question pls...I noticed that on (none) of the coins' attempted crossover to PCGS, was it brought up to: place a minimum grade, one point below, the current ANACS' grade. Had that been done, wouldn't it be likely that many more would/could have crossed? (and that raises the question: Is the coin more valuable, for those that didn't cross and didn't have damage, to be a PCGS at one point lower?)
Yes turning a coin upside helps immensely in getting a more accurate idea of grade - why? The light hits the devices differently and what was once shadowed is in full light. Therefore, you can detect additional scratches, bag marks and hairlines.
I consider myself a novice coin collector. I think I liked every problem coin you showed. Those full head quarters were a.azing. and I don't even have any or interest. But maybe...
I like the toning and look of the 1865 CN3C. The clashed dies look interesting.
Why doesn’t the grading company explain in short term why wasn’t a coin excepted?

It is important to consider the 'guarantee' that goes with a PCGS slab. Consider that if i recieve a coin PCGS slabbed and graded F 12 and i spend $14K on it and after careful comparison with PCGS's photograde detemine the coin is an F 8. The difference in the PCGS price guide between 8 and 12 is nearly $10K. If i send it to PCGS for 'resubmission" and they agree it is an 8. They must either purchase it at $20K or give me a check for the difference, (10K) and reholder it with an 8 grade.
No other grading service will do that, and i think it explains why PCGS is slightly more conservative then ANACS and NGC.
Interesting point about grading with the coin upside down. Once again Coin Geek University comes through with a useful tidbit.

I don’t know how many times I’ve seen a “cleaned” coin graded by PCGS that… I just don’t see any evidence of cleaning. I guess that’s why they’re the experts and I’m not.
Morgans are a really beautiful design and they are very popular.For myself, I have never been able to look past those ugly dark bag marks that are found on so many of them. Personal taste.

What is your opinion on NGC and PCGS when grading 2023 coins? When they get a flood of Silver Eagles, do they really examine them or just grade them at a glance? Thanks.

Several of these are just one grade too high. I wonder if it would be advantageous to accept a one-grade downgrade to cross it over to PCGS. I used to think old soap box ANACS were conservatively graded .... apparently not!
Grading, beyond authenticity, is voodoo to me. What’s the point of trying to cross grade?
Anacs are seen as less reliable/consistent so buyers are reluctant to invest in them without in person evaluation

Does NGC have the same service, where they don't cross over if it doesn't grade the same or better?
Let's hope our crossover project does a little better with the "cross at any straight grade" submission. But I understand not wanting to downgrade from a soapbox holder. Nice show!
Hi Ben, may i ask what brand of you camera?
I find this whole process an exercise in vanity. The grading companies seem to be more interested in their reputation rather than the grade of the coin in front of them. What difference does it make of a coin crosses or not? Is this an attempt to get more money for a coin? Do collectors care about this? I have over fifty Morgan's in mint state, but I am discouraged about trying to obtain more because the difference between AU and BU is hundreds to thousands of dollars. very discouraging.

i think most of these would cross at any grade. it's better to have a pcgs 62 than a anacs 63. who cares about anacs soap dish holders.
