    Being a very serious graded silver dollar collector, what surprised me the most was last year when I started buying rarer ASEs and when getting ready to purchase this 1995-W Proof ASE I did a comparison between PCGS AND NGC and you won’t believe the difference between the two in grade level 69 and 70. I’m so glad I started with PCGS years back.

    I've been collecting coins for about 6 years now. I really started in 2020 with quarters because I knew they would be rarer and worth something eventually. I recently bough three PCGS graded state quarters that are silver proofs and I've been put at ease that they're genuine. I would have to take a hammer to the cases to get them out. And like you said, a genuine grader uses sealed cases, and the ones I received are very sealed. Great video. Thank you for helping me learn more about my hobby.

    Thanks for the video Silverpicker, very informative :)
    Its always good mentioning that NGC, by also being into the Ancient Coins market, does NOT guarantee its authenticity. They wont slab a coin they think is fake, but there have been multiple instances of fakes being slabbed, and NGC does not take responsibility for them.
    At the end of the day, numismatists need to remember they are buying the COIN, not the plastic. To be a good coin collector, you need to understand a lot about coins. Grading companies are not a panacea and shouldn't replace studying numismatics.

    • @Silverpicker
      @Silverpicker  Рік тому +1

      Wow that's really interesting. I didn't realize that NGC doesn't guarantee ancients. That said, I've heard most ancient collectors don't want the coins graded at all

    Have you ever submitted to Anacs or ICG? Anacs is pretty tight with grades and often times crosses up a grade to PCGS. ICG can swing 2 grades either direction... But both give great service for the money...

  • @philipraimondo
    @philipraimondo Рік тому +5

    Will try not to rant too long… But truth is each company also has categories where they do better than others… or specialize in. Example, ANACS is best for ancient and errors/varieties. They recognize more errors than all the others. PCGS is best for retailers and those that sell coins. Plus they are best for Morgan’s and ASE. NGC is great for collecting and selling but also great for all coins. Finally ICG is a great company and those that think they “Over Grade” I beg to differ and have seen many times a cross over some back higher than the original ICG holder. THey are also newer and only been around 25 years or so. Started by some former NGC graders. They are in Tampa and NGC in Sarasota. They are best for modern coins and collections. They are also great for not having a membership and getting a lot of coins graded for a good value. If I was selling coins then I would not use ICG as much. ANACS was started by the ANA… they invented grading and slabbing coins. They were the very first and know what they are doing… I love PCGS and have a ton of their slabs… same with NCG but What I hate is the pricing and the control they have on population…. YES! They control the population and YES they purposely give coins a grade just to make sure there are not too many in the highest grade… If you just want to get a coin validated and you plan on keeping it then go with ICG and Save some money….. same with ANACS.. and if you have a cool error or a special variety then go with ANACS… My opinion… I know but it is a fair comment.

    Footnote: slabbed ancient coins are NOT certified. Only graded. They won't slab one they think is fake but they do not guarantee the coin at all.

    I feel that you are doing a disservice by putting ICG above ANACS. ANACS is the oldest coin grading service and a great option without having to join a club as with NCG or PCGS. Now NGC and PCGS are better services, but ANACS is the 3rd rank service over any others.

    On INB. I work at a coin shop and one day a guy came in with a bunch of stuff we were willing to take, but not worth a fortune. I remember there were some Roman coins in INB holders, they shook
    around which isn’t entirely shocking for an ancient coin, just not the best look for any grading company in general. It seemed authentic, just one of those ancient coins that really just has value to that one person looking for an old coin. Anyways, the main guy at my shop has a page of slabs from counterfeit companies, so both he can see which ones not to trust, and to show others who may not know. I recommend doing that for anyone in a similar situation.

    ICG and ANACS have their place when it comes to authentication, but when it comes to grading, particularly grading above MS64 or a where a single grade point can be a $1000 jump, I avoid - the modern ones anyway, as I do like what I see with the old soapbox slabs. I've also seen enough obviously dipped Morgans in ICG/ANACS holders with AU50/53/55 grades, looking dead with no luster to avoid those as well.

    I just went over to whatnot and the first live auction that came up was an individual selling coins in that really bad coin appraisal company. That gave me a bad taste real quick. I will not use whatnot. I’ll stick to stacks and bowers.

    I have 5 meteorites in INB slabs. When I scan the bar code, it takes me to a bunch of random sites in India.

    Please, @Whatnot sells allot of garbage tha is either poor or harshly cleaned (92). That is why you have a 30 second time limit to look at the coins. Not enouth time to make an intelligent decision. FYI, AVOID @WHATNOT
