  • Big tide at Bondi beach, the waves fill the Icebergs Club pool. The sea wasn't even that rough. 3:47 shows what it's like normally [a week later]. Bondi Beach, Sydney, Australia, 8 Dec 2013.

    Engineering blunder?

    • @jellyfishbones0
      @jellyfishbones0 5 років тому

      I used to work at that pool, the surf is rarely big enough to crash over the side like that.
      Most of the time the ocean and the pool water don't meet and the pool water is calm like any outdoor pool.
      Once a week when the pool water is drained out, the surfaces cleaned, and then the pool is refilled by pumping in seawater.
      The pool was built maybe 75 years ago, and it really gets hammered in storms, so Engineering success I think.

      almost every beach in Sydney has an ocean pool, Bondi has two. They are filled with sea water replaced about once a week and usually the waves aren't big enough to crash over the side like in the video. It means people can swim in very safe water with no waves or currents (e.g. old people and kids).
