  • Many people jump straight in a taxi when they arrive at the airport or need to go to one. But in Singapore there's a brilliant alternative for journeys between the city and Changi Airport. The extended MRT system makes travelling a pleasure, and it's also cheaper and often faster than a taxi.
    That's a couple of reasons to take the train already! But in this 5 minute video you'll find 10 reasons why you should consider the MRT when travelling between Downtown Singapore and Changi Airport.
    Let's go!

      Cheers, SG. I'd love to be known as a provider of community service. That would be great! My hope is that a few people watch a video and think, "ok, I could do that." If that happens, I'm a happy man! Thanks for your support, mate!

      Thanks, BB. I hadn't been for about 10 years. Obviously, a lot has changed, but I still love it. If only I could afford to spend more time there! 😀

    I used the MRT to go everywhere in SG. It was cheap enough. The only downside was that it was pretty crowded. Definitely one of the best subway systems in the world.

      Many thanks, David. I'm not sure if they've increased capacity or I was just lucky - but I didn't find it particularly crowded. But then again, I'm probably comparing it to 20 years using the London Underground and 10 years using the BTS Sukhumvit Line in Bangkok during rush hour! MRT was surprisingly cheap compared to taxis in Singapore, which was a real bonus!

    That looks like a smooth way to get to the airport. I noticed a sign on the door saying Caution No Standing, and yet there were several people doing just that. And they have those hanging handle things that suggest that standing is allowed!

      Yes, very convenient way to get around! There's a lot of rules in Singapore, so I'm always worried I'm going to break one! I guess with the no standing rule, they mean in front of the door or leaning on the door. Something like that? Otherwise, I'll be getting a fine notice in the post anytime now!

      Thanks, Jimmy. I found most things to be so much more expensive than Thailand, but Singapore is a great country to visit, I think. The only exception to the "much more expensive" rule seemed to be the MRT system which was just as reasonable as Bangkok. Give it a try if you get the chance!

      Thanks, PFI. In a country that's known to be expensive, it is a pleasant surprise to find the MRT so reasonably priced!

    I agree the MRT is great in SIN. Depending on my length of flight on arrival I sometimes spring for the grab car to not have to shuffle luggage through trains and just go point to point. Especially in a group of 2-3. If I am solo train for sure.

      Sounds like you've got all scenarios covered logically there! I should say the taxi system in Singapore seems to be pretty good, as long as you don't hit bad traffic. But when travelling alone the cost of the MRT makes it a no-brainer for me 👍

    Have you done a Hotel review in Singapore? Whats your impression of the people in Singapore compared to Bangkok- a lot of old (and new) money in Singapore, but isnt Bangkok catching up.., both countries have a growing affluent middle class. Cheers👍.

      Thanks, Anders. I haven't uploaded a hotel review of Singapore so far. On this trip I "accidentally" went on Formula 1 week, and the prices were crazy so I literally booked the cheapest place that was available 😅 Then again, I have been to Singapore and you obviously the culture is different to Bangkok, but I found the people really friendly and helpful. Especially those in the service industry. I'd agree there's a growing number of affluent people in Bangkok. Equally, there's a fair few people struggling to make ends meet. I didn't see any people sleeping on the street, and certainly not people begging for money. I don't know if they have such issues or how they deal with them if they do, but it's something noticeable by it's absence compared with daily life in Bangkok.

    Hotels... trains..... what next? Where else won't a lone tropical fruit be allowed? :(

    • @balloonchaser
      @balloonchaser  22 дні тому +1

      It's persecution of the highest order! I noticed it doesn't stipulate the level of the fine for bringing durian onto the train. But given the level of the other penalties, it's not going to be cheap!
