  • Episode 6 of my series covering home repairs to my Audi A4 (B8) model 2008 - 2016.
    In this episode I add a can of "O" ring conditioner and then a can of R-134a refrigerant to the air conditioning system.
    If you tackle this job it is important to note that it wont work if there is a major leak in the system.
    My air conditioning only recently started playing up but it still had pressure in the system so I knew there was not a major leak before carrying out this procedure.
    If in doubt, have your system professionally tested before refilling.
    Disclaimer.
    This video shows how I did the job. It is your responsibility to keep yourself safe if you choose to tackle this job. If you dont think you can safely complete the job then please contact a professional.
    I cannot be held responsible for any damage you cause to yourself, your car or anybody else.

    Hey it’s been a little hot lately here in San Diego so I’ve been using my ac and It was great but recently it just started blowing a little warmer air and isn’t cold air as it used to a couple of days ago would this solve my issue ?

    • @AstonishingGlasgow
      @AstonishingGlasgow  4 роки тому +2

      Sounds like what my AC was doing so it would be worth a try. Definitely run a can of leak fix through the system as well as you might have an O ring thats drying out and causing a small leak.

      I have not encountered that fault with my A4. If it happens as you pull away in 1st it may be your clutch or flywheel.

      A shudder/shake in first gear could also be caused by worn or failed engine mounts.

    Great video, no chit-chat, no daft music just straight to it as it ought to be of course. Let me know if you experience any problems with your A4 as i've done most jobs on it over the years.

    never use this shiiiit cans please...,
    you dont know how much refrigerant left in system, and how much you add to the system.
    It could be overcharged now, or still low on charge, even A/C work good !! ( i mean you feel cold air blow inside) especially on Variable Displacement Compressors.
    Remember - Variable Disp. Compressors in combination with Expansion Valve will at all costs make the system work properly !!
    If you are low on charge VDC will try to work at full open displacement, but there is no refrigerant. No refrigerant = very low/no oil flow, oil stacked in evaporator and you burnt compressor due to no lubrication. If you overcharged system when pressure rise really high ( especially hot days) expansion valve will try keep flow to a minimum, a huge amount of subcooled liquid refrigerant "stay" and "wait" before expansion valve, waiting for pass thorugh valve.
    This causes a huge increase in pressure and temperature in the system.
    Not to mention even that these cans do not contain true HFC refrigerant.
    There ist just a Hydro-Carbons blend like a propan(r290) and isobutan(r600a) isobutan doesnt work/mix with pag synthetic oil !
    also remember that gauge LP(low pressure port) indications do not really give anything, as I wrote above, the expansion valve will try to work and maintain the set parameter, it is controlled by Superheat (superheated vapor), the operation of the system is controlled by many parameters, not only the pressure from LP port. Don't be mad at me for writing this, a lot of people don't know about it, they believe this fake seller just to sell any bullshit for a few bucks. I am writing this only for information, and I have a lot of experience in A/C systems, and I saw a bit of AC compressor murdered because of these cans. Greetings!

    Do you need both cans? Some just sell as one refrigerant can

    • @AstonishingGlasgow
      @AstonishingGlasgow  4 місяці тому +1

      You can use just one can but if you need to top up the system there is a chance you have a small leak anyway so leak fix and system lubricator cant hurt.

    Nice video. Well made and very informative. Noticed mine was blowing warm today. Had it off for winter so don't know if it's a catastrophic leak or just a slow one. How much is the kit?

    • @AstonishingGlasgow
      @AstonishingGlasgow  2 роки тому +1

      Cheers. When i bought it I think it was around the £10 mark for the fill gauge and around £40 for the leak fix and refrigerant. Not had to buy it for a few years now so prices may have changed.

    • @AstonishingGlasgow
      @AstonishingGlasgow  2 роки тому +3

      It didnt go above 45psi while filling and at a guess the system was at about 35psi while not filling. The psi is less important than keeping it within the blue sector on the gauge.

    I had a used gmc jimmy as my first vehicle. I remember at times having to pull over, open the hood and bang the motor with a crowbar in order to get the ac pumping again. Ah, the good old days. This was interesting, all the different camera angles help make the video more interesting. Naturally, when most folks watch they don’t realize it, especially when it’s done right. Oh btw, the no look toss in the trash lolll. Literally, very cool... Nice work!

      Thanks Nick. As I live in Scotland the AC is only necessary for about 2 weeks of the year but its nice to have it working. Im glad you found all the shots interesting and I hope the process made sense? I try and keep the videos to the point rather than lots of talking with no action so its sometimes a challenge to tell the story with pictures rather than words.

    Didn't make clear what was in first and then second can. It also warned about not overfilling but didn't say how this was achieved. A link to the hose to fill would be nice. Other than that nice video.

      Sorry if you missed it, there is a close up of the cans at 1:58 showing that the green can is "Stop leak, O ring and seal conditioner" and the Blue can is the refrigerant gas. To prevent over filling, turn the tap off before it over fills, the gauge is your friend for this. Hose available in many places, I bought this one on Amazon.

    hi there? I have an A4 2014 B8.5 1.8 model TSFI... I have a problem with my aircon. when you switch it on. It blows air, but the air only comes from the underneath vents by the feet and by the windshield vents (sufficient airflow by the way). But NO amount of air flow is coming from the side vents of the dashboard and the middle vents of the dashboard by the radio. what could be wrong? thank you for your suggestion.

    • @AstonishingGlasgow
      @AstonishingGlasgow  Рік тому +1

      Sounds a lot like you might have a faulty air control motor. You will be able to diagnose which one is faulty with a good fault code scanner or by removing your glove box and working through the heater controls and looking for the motor that is not activating.
      I have a similar problem myself at the moment with colder air on the driver side than the passenger side but replacing that motor requires removing the steering column so Im not looking forward to that job.

      If it needs doing I will try and fix it myself. Your issue could be something a lot easier. Removing the glove box is only 6 bolts and you will have access to most of the flap motors to see what one is not working.

    after you fill with the leak stoper dont you have to empty before you add the gas replacement ?

    • @AstonishingGlasgow
      @AstonishingGlasgow  3 роки тому

      Not in my case as I had lost some gas from the system. I suspect an o ring is very slightly weeping which is why I added the leak stopper before topping up the refrigerant. My aircon is still working fine now and it is almost a year since carrying out this repair.
