Excellent video! So glad I watched it. I have an 06 CRV with a new compressor replaced last year. During the summer it was cooling so well it would absolutely freeze me. Oddly enough I noticed on a warm day in December it wasn't cooling. I assumed the coolant had leaked out and got one of those DIY kits from WM to put some coolant back in it. To my surprise, when I hooked up the hose to the low side, I got high pressure in the red range on the gauge. Now, I at least have a clue as to why the low-pressure side is high. I did not have the expansion valve replaced when I had the new compressor installed! What seemed like sorcery and rocket science before now kinda makes sense! I'm going to my guy and have the expansion valve replaced. A/C starting to make sense. This is scary, but fun! 1000 thanks for a great video!!!

Thanks man! this helped me diagnose a bad wire that was intermittently turning off the fan. I noticed the high pressure would increase all the way beyond 300 as I filled in freon, even with 4 oz in the system. I thought it was a clog or something, thought the expansion valve was bad. If I just knew a little foundation to the AC system I would of known instantly the fan wasn't cooling the condenser, duh!. Thank you!

I have a mid engine application with the condenser in the standard position in front of the radiator at the front of the car, and an electric rad fan pulling air through the condenser and radiator. I really liked the way you showed different readings and explained the issues. My 2007 Honda Accord's AC is acting funny. Readings are good, compressor engages and blows cool air. After about 10 mins of the compressor cycling on and off it goes off and pressures change. Low pressure goes to 50 psi and High pressure goes to 100 psi and it starts blowing warm air. If you turn it off and let sit a minute and then back on its fine for awhile. any ideas?

    Great video!
If I got my vehicle's AC system completely evacuated (via a Refrigerant Recovery Machine), do I need to put the full amount of oil back in?
Also, is the amount of oil to put back in based solely on how much oil the compressor requires, according to the service manual?

Temp was about 90 deg outside. I drove the car around about 20 min, and didn't find any leaks with the uv light. A shop charged my a/c system last summer. but now A/C just blows hot air. Temp at the vent is a100 plus.

I'd say the HVAC ASE is far more extensive and actually requires a solid understanding of the entire HVAC system. 608/609 is simply for EPA standards. 608/609 is easy to get and doesn't cover all that much TBH. Get your HVAC ASE! Get all your ASE's while you're at it 😉

Would you explain how(or if) that machine tests the vacuum before you charge the system. Is it automatic or manually done? I took my vehicle to a shop, told them I replaced the compressor & Accumulator and asked them to "check it and charge it". They said the machine did not report a leak but 3 hours later dye had leaked out. Just want to understand what happened. Why did they not detect a leak.... Should I have said "Test it, let me know if needs repair." instead? I wanted a shop to do it in case I needed to use compressor warranty. Now I am doing it myself because they charged it with 16 oz too much and probably Denso won't warrant it anyway. Your answer is much appreciated. Thanks.

Why would a newly refurbished ac system in 9 months, when I first cranked the car and turned on the ac, it blew oil and refrigerant out of the compressor, almost like a rupture disc blew, but can't fid a rupture disc. Once I turned off the ac, you could hear like a valve closing. Hooked up my gauges and I still have refrigerant and low pressure on both high and low. What do you think might have happened? Thanks.
