- In previous videos I converted this Honda ATV with a dead engine into a battery powered rocket ship, using old recycled hub motors and controllers.
One of the hub motors stopped working due to a damaged hall sensor, then a controller failed.
In this episode, I installed new Fardriver controllers and got it running at its full potential and tested on the Abandoned Highway..

Love how the abandoned highways in NZ are better than most of our country roads in Oz.
Love how quiet this thing has become! :)
A powerful mode of fast travel that only requires running water to recharge? Sounds like every gold-panning prospector's #1 wish come true :D
The Pelton wheel idea seems like an interesting proposal
My goodness this is such a cool project, and with your hydro power you have created a 100% “free” form of transportation.
Minus the cost of equipment of course.
I’m astounded by your ingenuity and envious of your skill with electrical engineering.
So dang cool man.
Nice little electric buggy you have there! The truest test is of course strapping the Old Iron Recovery Kit to her and see how she does going into the bush.
Those controllers are looking much better than the old ones, certainly goes well.
Much better.. Controllers have come a long way in the past decade, the motors even sound quieter on the new controllers
Where did you buy the controllers?

All Hollywood's post-apocalyptic films show people using big V8 vehicles when in fact what you have here is more likely.
Fun project.
Yes definitely would be interested in the Pelton wheel video.
Hey! No more motor noise. Even at high speeds I think that I was only hearing tire noise. That is really a top notch project.
That abandoned road is amazing! Im jealous, I need somewhere like that to enjoy my toys
I love the trick shots. 15:58
Yeah Marty definitely interested in watching water power feeding the ATV.
Yea we want to see the water power the battery… you don’t even need to ask!❤
I love all of your projects! The way you go into a repair is like a programmed assassin - failure isn't an option. Thanks for sharing it all with us.
Another great aspect is the bike is quiet. So not to Disturbed wildlife. A brake would be proper addition. All this fun from falling water.
I really love seeing these. Electric drive is going to keep older cars, trucks, ATVs, etc, going for years to come
NOTE: don’t watch this episode in a coffee shop because if you don’t have EarPods people WILL BE UPSET 🤣 due to the loud beeping from the Diagnostic results BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!! Thanks Marty for adding spice to my day ❤️💪🏽💯😎
Your skills just simply amaze me Marty. You are such a modest and unassuming guy yet you don’t seem to be afraid to tackle anything. From Hydraulics, to engines and even electric motors and controllers. I never skip a Marty T video. Well done Mate. Oh, you live in a very rugged yet beautiful area. A far cry from big city life in San Antonio, Texas.
watching from sa too! howdy!
My wife call you the tractor guy, we both look forward to your videos, so diverse, please keep them coming Sir. Greetings from the great state of Texas.
I believe diesel electric locomotives call it Dynamic Braking and it works exactly like your ATV very cool and regenerative is the proper term for what’s going with your ATV because a lot of locomotives just dissipate the heat and don’t use the electrical power just the braking effect.
Again very cool.
Very enjoyable three part series. Thanks , you made it look easy but I know that was quite a technical effort. What a result!
I love the electric tinkering. Have hoped for years that you would do this project. Don't get me wrong, I'm awe of your proficiency when it comes to troubleshooting and maintaining ICE mashines, but given the whole free power from the creek and sun this makes so much sense.
When thinking what smaller appliance could be electrified next I feel the woodsplitter could be next given it's so noisy to work with. Truly appreciate all your videos!
You read my mind 😆
Indeed. And now a shed for the eATV with a roof from solar panels, for charging the batteries. And also a outlet-socket on the shed, with power FROM the eATV to the socket for tools etc. Use the eATV as a power source. Multi-purpose!
Ah… posted my answer before I saw all of your video… Haha, at the end you practically stated the same! Have fun tinkering, and happy holidays! 🎄
@@mishahendriks3020 Haha yes I've been busy building a dry shed for it
@@MartyT Excellent! Cant wait for the video as Christmas present… 👍🏼
You are the most amazing person I have never watched on any video anywhere. Congrats on another great build. now...don't forget the hand brake.
Love it! Add a roll cage so you can put a solar cell on top.
we would all love to see the Hydro powered 4 wheeler....it's laugh out loud engineering and absolute genius!!
Love your channel. Free power is always a good thing, especially without the VAT. Keep the vid's coming. We here in Canada are about to enter a deep winter stasis, so watching a warm climate is always heartwarming.
3:58 Magic. Straight magic. And 20 times more powerful than my ebike!
Absolute genius, would fit a hand brake 1st or a bike stand before fitting the Pelton wheel, don't want it going for a walk. 😂👍
Definitely would like to see the quad turn into a hydro power station. Very cool.
Love to see the water powered quad!
Just to wish you Marty and family a very happy and peaceful Christmas. I have just started watching your videos and I particularly enjoy how you approach each task in a very calm and methodical manner. Great to see your family involved as well. You’ve inspired me to attempt fixing and reinstalling things that I otherwise would not have attempted. Looking forward to 2024.

Wow, what scenery!! Had me thinking I would fall off the edge! Great country side. It looks completely empty of humans wandering around. Beautiful place.
That is the COOLEST thing! So much quieter than a petrol engine, this would be great around the property.
Marty most of the big controller have an "e brake" you can use to lock the wheel.
Some might advertise it as an alarm lock.
It uses a bit of power to do it but you could use it for quick stops.
awesome project.
quick note about the battery level lcd display. it works its percentage off of the battery voltage linearly between its max and min voltages.
this doesnt always match upto how the batteries voltage represents its remaining charge/ah.
you will usaually find with lithiums it will drop the first 20-30% of charge a lot quicker than the second 20-30% of the same charge as the bulk of a lithiums actual AH capacity lies within the middle range of its discharge.
i.e. if you get about 20km out of the first 40% of charge(60% left), taking it down to 20% left will get you about another 30km.
the mobile hydro idea is brilliant, would love to see that experiment. nice work
Pelton wheel video, hell yeah Marty, thanks in advance.
Highly successful and so quiet.
The only channel that gets me to hit like, before the intro or recap has even started.
Man I wish I could live in NZ it is so beautiful!
Pelton wheel? YES!
That is not an ATV, thats a starship!
Can’t wait for the pelton wheel episode. Onya Marty!
Yes please I'm very interested in how you made water to power to run your mountain home and how you know all to do those mechanical projects, there are two other UA-camrs i watch that do the same as you do but not as much as you do, you bring old things back to life once again thank you Larry
Very cool and it's so quite...
Merry Christmas 🎄 to you and your family Marty.
Excellent.
You could fit a line lock on the hydraulic front brake for a park brake bro.
Bloody hell, Not one for Mrs Marty or kids. I am assuming that it can go faster but with a higher use of power. Uses for the unit as a power plant are endless. What a clever project. Thanks for the vid. Every day is a school day as they say. 👍
As always, another awesome video.
17:42 hell yeah if you're prepared to do that that would be great, very interesting.
😱if that thing had wings it would take off … super cool Michael Uk 🇬🇧
Very nice! I hope electric ATVs become the norm. A lot of people use these things for running around the farm, so battery limitations wouldn't be a problem.
You've turned another bit of trash into gold, Marty. Excellent!
I'd love to see your Pelton wheel generator idea adapted when you get around to it.
You're a genius Mart. Bob. LH.
LOVE to see you add a Pelton wheel.
Who knew Marty could speak Martian? Well, it might as well have been for we oldies, ie. whatever he was explaining about all the intricate details of programming the controller.
Much admiration and respect, I hope the quad bike companies have been in touch, apparently this is the future.
Always good for a watch Marty
I am curious about that abandoned road. I am from Nelson and have never have heard of it. Great program. Cheers John
Geez Marty, you have some awesome drop offs on some of those roads mate. Reminds me of the Cobb River days going in and out of the power station..
It would be interesting to see if you could get useful generation with a Pelton wheel or similar. The hub motor, controller and battery are already set up, so it would just be the water handling and turbine that would be needed. Pelton wheels generally need quite a lot of head, which could be difficult with a portable setup.. maybe a Turgo turbine would be a better match. It would be a fun project anyway.
Merry Christmas to you and your family, and thanks for the entertainment, education and inspiration during 2023.
That is a really great ATV and so clean, And yeah i'd love to see the ATV power generator video...
Yes I'd be very interested in that.
Thanks Marty!
Bob from Virginia USA
Very smart thinkering 😉
Merry Christmas Marty T. That was very impressive adaptation and conversion to electric motors.
🌏🌲
I can literally see you parking in a stream with a waterwheel-shaped hubcap to recharge this thing...
😂😂😂
Thx for showing!
👍👍👍
Great job and I wish you all a very happy Christmas and new years ahead to you all and your family and friends mate
Great idea
Try using Tyre shine on the plastics it will bring them back it also makes them water proof look car polish.
Just did my modified powerwheels ford ranger
Hi Marty, awesome job , what a guy! Many thanks from UK.
Love how quiet it is. 👍
Keen to see a pelting wheel conversion
Nice, now here's tinkerers idea. Add a pot sensor to the steering, integrate in into the throttle, to bias faster turning speed for the outside wheel :)
What an amazing piece of property you live on, that track is not for the faint hearted, and I love this project. Electric motors have been a fascination or mine since childhood.
Yes, please. I'd LOVE to see you add a Pelton wheel, too.
G'day again from across the ditch,
Sadly i don't have a mechanical bone in my body, let alone any electrical/electronic ones, so i happily live vicariously through your tinkering.
Now if you could invent a cricket bat that can hit an underarm bowl for 6, we can finally put to bed the biggest quarrel between our nations 🤣
Yes to camping power pack! Add one more battery and it’s the house backup .
You have some geography going on there my friend. I live in south east Michigan U.S.A. Flat as a pancake.
That sounds a fine idea. Please do!
Pretty cool Marty. Those would sell like hotcakes here in the USA. Marty’s EV wheelers. I will take two 😁
Nice job, wow that things got some power, I hope you can de rate the thing when your kids are old enough to start learning to drive it 😁
Yes output is fully adjustable in these controllers, I can even make it 3 speed with 1st gear walking speed
YES to the pelton wheel option! Bloody good idea.
I always enjoy watching everything you do. You're a very smart guy. I'm always learning something new.
It's just amazing you could figure out how to do that conversion. Good job!
Save products, m8. Just an efficient cupped paddle wheel. It's easier to cart around when camping.... 😊😊❤
Wow! What fun!
The old girl seems to be running very strong covering alot of ground.. Need to build a cargo box on one or both of the racks with sturdy solar panel lids.. Always nice to have it charging when its parked in the bush for a few hours or a few days..👍👍
You're the man who powered things using a washing machine. How? Yeah, we want to see the.
The regenerated
the kids are gonna' love that thing when you hook a trailer up to it for them to sit in, lol.
fair play to ya' fella'. another piece of machinery saved from a skip or dump... 👍
Put a clip over the lever in the handlebar for a brake or a chain with a hook on to the wheel.
Amazing the talent Marty has for taking old clunkers others consider scrap and turning them into useful equipment. 😊
It’s a bit sketchy not having a rear brake, handy to have in some situations.
That's awesome! Would love to see the hydrobike Powerstation mod.
that is pretty friggin cool....i knew that old hwy would be a great spot to use it....good stuff marty
Marty you are a genius. How are you trained mate? You have such a huge range of knowledge. But we'll done.👍
Self trained backyard tinkerer/ shade tree mechanic ;)
@@MartyT#8 wire man ✌️
Only way to go.
those laser temp guns r good

I can't speak for Marty obviously but I find the best way is to jump into a project and give it a go, you quickly work out what works and what doesn't. Plus with the internet these days, you can learn a great deal from others experiences.
Brilliant upcycling project!! Looks a blast and the abandoned road is definitely your personal racetrack!
Quite a drive way you have. Being a retired electrician and working a lot in industry with relay logic, plc's etc. your converting this ATV to electric was quite interesting.🎄
Yes very interested in seeing that function. Thanks for your time; nice work!
You can add solar panels to it recharging the battery when camping. Great project and very motivational
Now that you've got it figured out perhaps it's time to mass produce them and become a multi-millionaire. Or just keep having fun with what you've got. 😇 👍👍👍
For a handbrake just get a Velcro strap that you leave dangling around the handlebar and then tie down the front brake with the strap as needed.
Fair balls to you, Marty!
It would be totally awesome to see a mod made with a pelton wheel to make it a portable generator - just bring it to some running water with some drop/head, run a pipe and have a go at it! Great work, Marty! Thanks so much for sharing your handiwork with us! You satisfy our internal self-sufficiency module 100%!!! 😊
