Halo's appeal is too straightforward for corporations to understand. The mindset pretty much everything in the series post-Bungie has been that the series is about its marketable characters, when really the success of the franchise came from its broader concept. Yes, people liked the characters, but the main draw of the series was the scale, spectacle, and concept of a massive war against aliens. It's a super-straightforward idea whose success came from the execution; but Microsoft doesn't get that. The attitude the show was written with was that character drama, by sheer virtue of being about a recognizable character, was everything viewers and critics would want. Infinite is the same way; just writing the entire UNSC out of the story so the entire campaign can just be Chief and a Cortana lookalike trying and failing to make you nostalgic.
Microsoft can't wrap their head around people enjoying the series just for the spectacle of its high concept.

5:14 when the Spartan picks up the DMR the camera focus and his gaze both shift to the covenant aircraft - the spartan quickly refocuses on the task at hand, there is a sense of urgency that the UNSC no longer controls the airspace especially if the space battle has gone downhill, whatever this team of Spartans need to do they know they are running out of time and need to do it soon

What I love about this is all three infantry groups work. The marines are the meat of the battle, holding the line and pushing where needed. The ODSTs are the squads that take out troublesome targets. The Spartans are the shining beacon of hope in the desolate warzone, always turning the tides of war. No one group is more important than the others.

The best part is that all of these is us following one assault. How much tactical ground the covenant just lost during this series due to both ODST and the Spartans support is incredible and puts into perspective why the coverant called the greatest spartan master chief a literal Demon.

How the combat flows, specifically the Spartans, feels exactly how I would imagine they would fight in a combat scenario, causing mayhem and really being the forefront of the battle. The ODST's dropping out of the sky and really putting the shock in ODST was really cool, also how they function like actual veteran soldiers in combat and not in a movie. Really great work!

    • @firebeardlongfellow5295

      I freaking love these details.
Especially near the end where the ODST's and Spartans form up to fight the Brutes. Moving in as a column seamlessly. Both ODST's and Spartans are the literal gods of humanity in the Halo mythos in terms of their skill, valor, heroism, and tenacity. The Covenant literally refers to the Spartans as demons and the ODST's as imps for context to anyone not too deeply knowledgeable of the lore.
Anyway what I absolutely love is the seamlessness in how they put the Spartans up front. Literally bigger targets equipped with the best armor and shielding humanity has ever made for human frames beyond a mechanical Mantis mech suit. Immediately followed by the best regular human soldiers humanity has. All without having to check in, talk, or size up. All of them effortlessly know how to freaking square up, and understand their roles instantly. Big Spartans up front and center, and ODST's taking the rear.
From a lore viewpoint concerning the Brutes perspective this is a literal procession of 2 leading demons followed by their devilish imp entourage to cause destruction and death wherever they go.
*I freaking love how lore accurate and downright epic these animations are its insane*

    • @Milesamanjaro

@@m4_sherman741 And I would have been okay with a new approach, a la Netflix's Cowboy Bebop. But Paramount's Halo is just not a good show structurally; Halo themes aside. Pacing is inconsistent. Dialogue is mediocre. The plot exists because plot. It just doesn't feel like anyone cared. If the existing franchise didn't exist, I still don't think this show would have performed well...but because this franchise does exist, it makes these fumbles even more noticeable because of the larger audience who has preconceived ideas of how certain elements of the show "should" be.
There are studios on UA-cam which could have knocked this out of the park if given the opportunity. I can think of several show samples from DUST, which range from 10 minute to 30 minute clips, that have more draw than whole episodes in Halo Season 1. Not putting-down those shows on DUST, but they're just good!

This is the theatrical, combined-arms humans vs aliens Halo warfighting experience I wanted to see on the big screen. Great work. I really appreciate that it strikes that difficult balance between 'these are our heroes who must win' - with the canonical power of the Spartan soldiers - and the backdrop of 'our heroes are barely holding' - with the ambience of the occupied urban setting, speaking soldiers that die shortly after, and feeling of technically superior hardware of the Covenant. Those Pelicans need better AWACS though, hah!

God it's the small details that make the frame. I love the weapons functionality, weak points on certain vehicles and armor, and the love and craft put into the tactics and use of Spartans. But beyond all that you showed humanity fighting as one hand, one heart, and one sword against the Covenant. That's the one aspect of beauty that I think only Halo CE and Reach could show was that the marines, airman, ODST, and Naval men were just as important as the Spartans.
The orbital dog fight transitioning to landfall and then to urban combat. Just everything, I hope your proud of your craft my good friend because we all sure are.

And when the shields on a spartan go down from a brute shot they immediately move to cover and the spartans start dealing with them more tactically instead of just rushing through like they did all the fodder. They treated the brutes as a proper threat. This is animated a lot like how Halo actually plays. You wade through grunts and jackals, usually end up running over Elites if you can, and have to play it smart around brutes because they always show up in places it's hard to get a vehicle into as well as usually having the ability to flip your vehicle anyways. Only thing missing is grenade action. Plasma and frag. Also helmets not popping off but that's an SFM limitation and if I remember right this is in SFM

One of the things I appreciate about the scenario is the use of the Spartans as assault troops. It's something I've thought about myself when considering how the crappy Halo show should've really used them, with UNSC troops doing most of the fighting, ODSTs akin to modern special forces, and the Spartans being something that doesn't directly translate to modern warfare - they have shields, armour, speed strength that lets them literally walk into enemy fire, something no infantry today can do.
They'd very likely be used as infantry-sized tanks, creating a miniature armoured spearhead just like tanks do on a larger scale, with regular troops as infantry support to prevent them getting outflanked, and that's more or less how they're used in the second half of this video!
