I have some great memories playing Power Stone 1 & 2 with my HS friends back in the late 90's and early 00's. I was the only one in our circle who had a Dreamcast, so that's what everyone wanted to do when we hung at my place. We absolutely loved it.
One day it will be set free if Capcom gives a care for its lesser IPs but man what i wouldn't give to play it as a kid but never got the chance I even had a Dreamcast then
Same - I was 13, preordered a Dreamcast, saved any money I got for about half a year, got my dad to take me to the local game shop for the midnight launch... and they hadn't had their shipment of Sonic Adventure yet - the one launch game I was really looking forward to! Could have been a disaster, but I picked up this "Power Stone" thing that I'd never heard of and ended up playing it absolutely to death. Love the game to this day!
Anyone actually under rating it? It died early, but it was mostly bad business decisions post Mega Drive that hurt it the most, and it was too little too late.
Got to say, I'm very happy to see you talk about this series! Definitely one of the most underrated Capcom franchises of all, and one that desperately needs a sequel (or at least, a HD remake on modern consoles) and some representation in the _Capcom VS._ line. I used to main Ayame (best girl!), myself!
My local arcade had Power Stone 2 in the 2000s, it was one of my favorite games to play there growing up I have yet to see a cabinet for either Power Stone game ever since
I'm such a Power Stone freak that i unlocked the First Person mode and knew all the levels better than the back of my hand that it was no problem playing and beating it in that mode countless times. in my top three fighters of all time : )
Oh, damn… back at it with tugging on my nostalgic heartstrings. I have a history with this game. Late teens, one of the few games my parents got for me, and they knew nothing about the franchise. I spent SO many hours mastering this game, and introducing it to the rest of the family.
I remember wanting a Dreamcast specifically because of Power Stone. It seemed so cool and such a great compliment to the frantic gameplay of Smash Bros on the N64! But I never did buy a DC as at that time I had a TON of life firsts that ate up all my spare money until after the console had been discontinued. Little things like getting married, buying my first house, buying my first & only brand new car (after driving various beaters for several years,) and having my first child all happened in between the time the DC was first released and when it was discontinued.
First time I knew about power stone was an back ad in tips and tricks magazine codebook. Full page ad. Saw the Capcom logo and instantly knew it was going to be a classic.
Such a shame. Power stone 1&2 are some of my most favorite fighting games of all time. I got my buddy into them like 10 years ago on an emulator. They’re so much fun
Reasons why we haven't had another Power Stone: Monster Hunter Resident Evil Devil May Cry Street Fighter Even getting a new Mega Man game out of Capcom is difficult.
10:47 The "Great Chicago Fire" is just another summer to us present day southern Californians. Not sure if California's Fire season (we have three seasons these days, Spring, Fire and Colder Spring. We used to also have Hurricane between Colder Spring and Spring but that seems to no longer be a thing, least not here in LA) was a thing back then though.
You put all this work into the "complete" history, ending with an ask for Capcom bring back Power Stone - and 3 months after you publish they announce they will re-release both games as part of the Capcom Fighting Collection 2 in 2025. Maybe someone at Capcom watches and decided oblige :D ... or they are trolling you by making sure your complete history videos need addendums :o
I found out about power stone 2 from a pirate seller of games. Since back then everyone had a way to play burnt disks. Me and my friends would absolutely love to play this game any chance we got. Had an absolute blast . It was a weird fighting game but man it was always a good time
Great job on this! I love Power Stone! These games also have a hidden widescreen mode using original Dreamcast hardware which is nice for the 4 player mode if anyone wants to have a party with them in 2024 on your 16:9 screen in full glory!
It's my favorite fighter and I've been looking for a game that catches the magic of the first game. Still got my 2 power stone games, with tech romancer and project justice. Love both games, for different reasons. Hopefully we will be seeing a collection soon!
Dreamcast to this day is the only console I ever bought on Launch day 9/9/99. My first games were Sonic Adventure, Soul Calibur and House of the Dead 2. I later bought Tony Hawk 1, Crazy Taxi, Shenmue, Resident Evil: Code Veronica, Worms: Armageddon, Chu Chu Rocket, Space Channel 5, Virtua Tennis and Seaman. I also had the "Gleem" Disc that let you play PS1 game Gran Turismo disc with hi-def graphics. That was the sickest collection of games I'd ever bought for one console. I did get a couple duds one was Dreamcasts first RPG "Evolution" which was trash. Also another Survival horror game called Blue Stinger which was garbage. I'm sure I'm missing about 5 or 6 more games I just forgot over the years but Dreamcast lineup was spectacular. PS2 bullshit hype killed Sega and it's tragic for gamers.
Powerstone is pretty much the only fighter i ever enjoyed playing.. Shame there wasnt more of them Powerstone 2 was the most played game in our office at one point.. 4 player funness!
@@slopesgameroom that weird as I kinda enjoyed the first SC too.. maybe we are both fans of fighting games which aren’t for hard core fighting types? Perhaps not though, as I’ve tried to like smash bros, and hate that too.
Looking at the comments, I’m seeing a lot of people proclaiming how the second game is better than the first as if it’s some kind of hot take. It isn’t. Most people feel this way and although I don’t agree with this assessment, it’s completely understandable. PS2 Added a lot of cool features such as the set piece filled stages, hundreds of new weapons and items, new characters, and most importantly, four player mayhem! Make no mistake Power Stone 2 is one of the greatest games of its kind. All that said, I still prefer the first game over the second for one simple reason: it just plays better. I feel that the moment to moment gameplay in the first game is faster, more complex, and more satisfying than the second game. In the second game, everyone runs much slower and the moveset of every character has been stripped down to the bare essentials. In PS1 characters could combine their punches and kicks into a variety of combos, as well as perform unique throw animations both on the ground and in the air. Each character also had access to an overpowered dive kick maneuver. In PS2 all of these techniques were removed except for the throws, which can now only be performed with a partner helping you. The more homogeneous characters and stripped down movesets made PS2 feel more like a party game than a fighting game. I can understand why they may have felt they needed to slow the game down to make way for the bigger stages and 4 player action. But I don’t get why they removed the character specific moves. If PS2 played just like PS1, but with all the new items, characters, stages, plus the 4 players, (and maybe a nerfed dive kick)I think it would’ve been the perfect game. As it is, PS1 edges it out by virtue of the gameplay alone. But that’s just my personal preference. I totally get why people love the second game more, but I will always be a champion for the first. To this day, no other game makes me feel like it does.
6:02 Well that was pretty much par the course for Sega. The Triforce even has modified Gamecube hardware and ultimately they just started sticking entire computers with the operating systems locked down by 2-factor USB keys (in such a manner that only one game could run on a normal boot up and nothing else, not sure how exactly it works) into arcade cabinets.
Didn't hear my name on this one, guess it released after I had to reduce my monthly support due to being laid off. Either way, I'm glad for the time I was able to support at more than I can currently, but will continue to share your content to everyone I know that is into this.
I really hope for another Power Stone game (especially a possible remake), but we'll never know for sure. This series and Smash Bros are my favorite platform fighters in the late-90s. Rouge was scrapped as playable character in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom & Marvel vs. Capcom 3 respectively. Three characters had cameos in different games like Falcon & Rouge in desert and London stages of CvS2, Rouge & Ayame in Felicia's ending of CFE/J and Rouge alone in Felicia's ending of MvC3. And Ed. Falcon had two guest costumes in Dead Rising 3 or 4 and SFV respectively. Then again, Power Stone still needs to return after many years ago especially some of my characters/mains like Ed. Falcon, Rouge, Accel and (my girl) Ayame that I wanted to see again. Great video btw.
Man I miss these games❤ kids these days dont know how good the 80s & 90s games were. They probably didnt have advanced graphics like games nowadays but they made us appreciate the simple & clean games...I wish games wouldve stayed like this
I Love Power Stone! My Dreamcast was exhausted with Power Stone and Project Justice but sadly Capcom is on the Monster Hunter and Resident Evil business. Look at Mega Man dead again even if Mega Man 11 became the highest selling Mega Man game ever.
I wish they'd port the PowerStone collection to modern consoles. I spent so much time playing the first one with my roommates in college on my Dreamcast but to this date, the most recent release was the PSP collection :(
Power Stone 1 is basically SF2 in 3D with it's own 8 world warriors. Since SF4, I really wanted a sequel or a remaster, its one of the best Dreamcast games to me. Since Capcom has ported near every arcade game or playable, I'm holding out hope for a 3D arcade collection or whatever because this, Rival Schools and Star Gladiator are still missing and never been ported for a long time. If they were generous on porting near every Darkstalkers game why not those?
Couldn't agree more. I always wonder if nostalgia gets in the way of a good game... But that's not the case here. Power Stone is still excellent fun, I couldn't stop playing whilst making this video
I miss power stone, it is one of my favorite dreamcast games of all time, along side Psychic Force the fighting game, which if you did do a video on discussing Psychic Force as is another hidden gem on the dreamcast in my opinion, that would be great
Still got my physical Dreamcast copy of the first game, wish I would have held onto my PSP collection though and/or gotten a copy of Power Stone 2 for Dreamcast before the price shot way up.
Sounds like Power Stone 2 was to Power Stone what Guilty Gear Isuka was to Guilty Gear XX. Maybe the developers should've designed the game emphasizing 2-on-2 team battles, supporting both competitive and cooperative play.
At an anime festival in summer 99 I played Power Stone on a Japanese Dreamcast and I was like "oh PLEASE tell me this will be a US launch title." On 9/9/99 I got my Dreamcast, MK4 (sigh), Soul Calibur (perfection), and Power Stone (perfection).
8:44 ...Wait WHAT?! Japan always gets the cool stuff. Shame it was underulitized though. From what I read it was a key feature of the Virtual On arcade game where you could use a Dreamcast disk to customize a robot, not Dynamite Baseball though?
Its still a Travesty that Ed Falcon wasn't included in MvC Infinite. Ed Falcon using a Power Stone (one of the Infinity stones) just writes itself. Siiiiigghhhhh smh
Some of these IPs might come back. I've heard that Itsuno himself would like to make a third and final installment of Rival Schools, to give the series a proper ending. Who knows? He's now busy with updates and patches on Dragon's Dogma 2.
Rival Schools with all the school sim elements that it contained in the Japanese home releases could be popular worldwide now. Persona has worldwide appeal now
@@robbyrobot3303 If a new Rival Schools game was to be made, that'd probably be the way to do it. Persona, but fighting. Plus the school/life sim mode.
Is this the series that had an antagonist called Valgas? For a long time I thought they were mispronouncing (or Japanese alternative-pronouncing)the name of Vargas from Final Fantasy VI, y'know the one you take out with a fighting game input combo? Anyway, whoooa it must have been quite the scavenger hunt for you! And I'm shocked that even still information was pretty scarce! I'd have searched whatever I could have from my old gaming magazines in LA Spanish, except, well... I'm pretty sure I didn't even know the Dreamcast existed, and I've already given away all my non-Club Nintendo ones, sorry. Still, I think you gave an amazingly detailed rundown of its rise and fall, thanks for another grand video, DJ Slopes!
16:18 Ah yes, who could forget the Ancient Egyptian Egg Walker (Tails' final boss in Sonic Adventure, not the smaller one in SA2) in the game where you collect chaos emeralds? I jest but come on!
Great fond memories, didn't buy it at launch (I had only money enough for Soul Calibur and Sonic), but played it on the DC demo disc...then got power stone 1 and 2. 🙌
Hey, Slope's Game Room. You should definitely do the complete history of Ridge Racer in a future video. Would you mind doing a video on the forgotten racing series?
I wasn’t (and still not) interested in fighter games, but Powerstone 1 & 2 were my go to game for Dreamcast. Especially Powerstone 2 which really ramped things up. Kind of wish there was a Powerstone 3. I can only imagine how awesome that would look. …..or bad considering the current state of games are 😒
I got a Dreamcast for Christmas in 2002 when the used PlayStation 2 I got originally refused to work. I had a friend who knew how to play burnt/bootleg games for the Dreamcast. I played powerstone and marvel v. Capcom 2 for the first time. I only feel slightly guilty.
Since we're talking arena fighters, i feel i need to mention Mighty Fight Federation, its a solid indie arena fighter that has been getting updates and characters brought in since release, including guest appearences from Yooka and Laylee as well as Kunio and Riki from River City Ransom. I havent played it in a while but i hope the online community is still alive
Man these games was fun back then, I wish games stayed how they was & didnt get as advanced like games nowadays...I miss the SIMPLE & CLEAN games❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love power stone 1 and 2 need a 3 when the dreamcast came out I bought it on the day of and all the games too still owned them but I play them all on my computer now using a ps4 controller
This couldve been a great rival to super smash brothers. Fighter megamix, capcom vs marvel/marvel super heroes and king of fighters paved the way for super smash brothers, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale and powerstone.

@0:55 HAHAHA, I'm sorry.. that made me laugh.
The style, the look, the arms.. not what I was expecting to see today XD
I wonder if you'll talk about the past acquisitions from Infogrames/Atari, including the Intellivision brand (they didn’t scoop up the Amico though)
I use to rent Power Stone 1 & 2 alot on Dreamcast. Unfortunately I never bought it.
Some of these IPs might come back. I've heard that Itsuno himself would like to make a third and final installment of Rival Schools, to give the series a proper ending. Who knows? He's now busy with updates and patches on Dragon's Dogma 2.
F-yeah, i loved rival schools!
I got it as a pack in
Absolutely mind-blowing.
Great pack I
I play BOTH games! Each stand out in their own way.
I agree mate
POWER STONE IS BACK MOTHER TRUCKERS
The game that made me buy a dreamcast. Still play it with friends. It really needs a switch release. I’d pay $200 to own a physical switch copy.
Hey, Slope's Game Room. You should definitely do the complete history of Ridge Racer in a future video. Would you mind doing a video on the forgotten racing series?
Yeah for sure, ridge racer and rage racer both need to be done
Power Stone is one of the most fun fighting games ever made. We need a Power Stone Collection Remastered, not remake
It really is so much fun
great video i was gona play this yesterday now u did a video on it lol awesome man
Ahhhh that's awesome thanks mate
The entire reason I wanted to get into game development was to make a spiritual successor to this game.
Power Stone and Bloody Roar were my Jams😊
Since we're talking arena fighters, i feel i need to mention Mighty Fight Federation, its a solid indie arena fighter that has been getting updates and characters brought in since release, including guest appearences from Yooka and Laylee as well as Kunio and Riki from River City Ransom. I havent played it in a while but i hope the online community is still alive
Bro, how can you make a game set in our time sound so old?!
It's older than SpongeBob SquarePants :D
I love Power Stone 2. Played it soooo much. Part one was cool too, but I prefer the sequel by far.
Great video brother.
Used to love games like this, Spawn In The Demon's Hand & Virtual-On.
I seem to remember you mentionning it on patreon.
Man these games was fun back then, I wish games stayed how they was & didnt get as advanced like games nowadays...I miss the SIMPLE & CLEAN games❤❤❤❤❤❤
Don't believe the naysayers, Power Stone 2 on the Dreamcast with 4 players is the most fun I've ever had in a multiplayer game.
I love power stone 1 and 2 need a 3 when the dreamcast came out I bought it on the day of and all the games too still owned them but I play them all on my computer now using a ps4 controller
It never fails to amaze me that there is a whole region of people who say “FREEDEE” instead of 3D
Not to mention “SAYGER” instead of SEGA
The best KOF came out in 1996.
It's the most influential one.
This couldve been a great rival to super smash brothers. Fighter megamix, capcom vs marvel/marvel super heroes and king of fighters paved the way for super smash brothers, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale and powerstone.
