I never even thought he retained his Ziggy Stardust look by this period until I saw this video. I'd always thought he'd moved on to his Young Americans/Station to Station look by this point.
My father, Pierre Llinares (viola) plays on this song with the electrical string quartet, Michel Ripoche (1st violin), Pierre Louis (2d violin) and cellist Hervé Derrien. The sessions took place in Château d'Hérouville recording studio on 29th of july 1973. The strings recording session was on night time at 3 am...
That’s so awesome! I was so jealous my father saw him during this era of his music. I got to see him twice live and even had a small interaction with him before his passing. I’m so blessed and lucky to see one of my favorite artists before they passed.
I think I was about 15 when I bought this single and like many teenagers going through tough periods with a father who liked to dish it out - in those times when I could this song brought me some sort of relief even though it is sad - on a brighter note I can remember being 17 and at last free of my strict parents and dancing to golden years with a beautiful American girl in Penzance .- that is the great thing with beautiful scripted songs they truly can leave strong impressions on you and a time and place in your life.
What a sad loss for the music world. My whole world was totally shattered when I heard the news of David Bowie's passing. He was not only a great singer, songwriter and musician but he was also a great actor too. Thank you so much for posting this legendary performance. David Bowie's musical legacy will live on.
I'm only 19 and only recently discovered his 70s period only a few years ago. Honestly I wasn't alive for Ziggy Stardust but I've become a huge fan of that period and years after. I'm still in shock, RIP David Bowie
For the record, this girl is a French disco singer from the 70's, Amanda Lear, she was an egerie in London at the time! What an exceptional period that must have been... :) Thanks for sharing!
he was so extreme at times that he allowed our extremes to appear almost normal. sort of like how nothing on the cat walk ever really makes it into retail fashion. he enabled an entire generation to express themselves and acted as a decoy time after time.
This stage set, the checkerboard, "pieces" being moved by "Lady Love" is perfect. Not to mention the cameo sax treatment. Just a perfect set and perfect song, one of the best of the 1980 Floor Show.
yes Jack Grattan, that sums it up perfectly. Sorrow. The world won't be the same without David Bowie in it. A musical and creative genius whose music will live in our hearts forever. RIP David Bowie
Lynne Huff Some weird challenge where a group of people strike a random pose, one person films it for a little time, ten secs or something, it was a random trend back in 2016 that to this day I'll never understand.
One of best recordings I have ever heard, the arrangements are near perfect Drums, bass, Violin etc and Bowie's voice is real smooth, love the Sax break it's spot on, hard to find songs as good as this and recorded as well these days!
I love this song, actually I love all his songs. What a great loss to his family, fans and the world of music. I am thankful I grew up knowing who David Bowie was from Ziggy, Thin White Duke and David Jones such a talent he will truly be missed. I still cry when I think about the whole thing. RIP David you are LOVED AND MISSED!!!
I will never forget when I found this album in my brothers drawer 10 years old 1973 and heard this song for the first time. Life changing for a future gay man from northern part of Sweden. Thanks David!
One of the rare artists that could sing live even in his videos (backing track assisted with harmonies & instruments) - what a talented singer etc. I get this song stuck in my head so often. Yay
SORROW LYRICS With your long blonde hair And your eyes of blue The only thing I ever got from you Was sorrow Sorrow You acted funny trying To spend my money You're out there playing your high class games of sorrow Sorrow You never do what you know you oughta Something tells me You're a Devil's daughter Sorrow, sorrow Ahhhh, ah, ahhhh I tried to find her 'Cause I can't resist her (I tried to find her) I never knew just how much I missed her Sorrow Sorrow With your long blonde hair and your eyes of blue The only thing I ever got from you was sorrow Sorrow Oh-oh-oh-oh Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh With your long blonde hair I couldn't sleep last night

Watching the sunrise, drinking XO Cognac and thinking of David Bowie. Surreal. What a great loss; and yet we were so blessed to have his company for the time we did. A Rock God!
Jack dude, Bowie will never rest in peace... The Star-man came from the stars.. and to the Universe he returneth.. aahh Men.. tune in.. The planet Earth is sleeping under a bed of stars...actually, Bowie is still the greatest show on Earth.. at least he was in my time.. 50 in April.. he always kept me dreaming.. and he still does.
Amanda Lear, Lear began her career as a fashion model in the mid-1960s and was also a muse of the Spanish surrealist painter Salvador Dalí. She first came to the public attention as the model on the cover of Roxy Music's album For Your Pleasure in 1973. In the mid-1970s to the early 1980s, she was a million-selling Disco Queen, mainly in Continental Europe and Scandinavia with hits such as "Queen of Chinatown", "Follow Me", "Enigma (Give a Bit of Mmh to Me)" and "Fashion Pack".
I couldn't think of a more appropriate song to play yesterday and today, and maybe tomorrow, with the sad, sad passing of Keith Emerson of Emerson, Lake, and Palmer.
I am a huge fan of Bowie...although I wasn't alive when he started to make the ingenious music and movies that he does, but am thankfull that I can hear him now and see him. He is still the sexiest man alive to this day. I love him!!!!!
I remember walking into a record store when Diamond Dogs was first released...they had the Diamond Dogs art and the album displayed everywhere...up until then I didn't have the balls to buy a Bowie album (anyone from back then knows what I mean..the other kids in your class saying 'oh! that fag' etc.)...but after experiencing the awesomeness of the feeling I got from that album cover and art...I said screw it and bought the album...I'm soooo glad I did!!!
I just couldn't think of a more appropriate song to play today. RIP.
+Jack Grattan if you notice he wore one of these costumes in his last video Lazarus.
+Jack Grattan INDEED....Sorrow

Wow, that must have been amazing. I really love this song and the arrangement.
That’s so awesome! I was so jealous my father saw him during this era of his music. I got to see him twice live and even had a small interaction with him before his passing. I’m so blessed and lucky to see one of my favorite artists before they passed.
this was the first single I ever bought from my pocket money.....he touched so many lives...RIP David, so sad
one of the soundtracks of my life when I was a teenager. it holds a special place in my heart

Loved this song through and through. Typically Bowie. The very emotion I feel at the minute.
he was so extreme at times that he allowed our extremes to appear almost normal. sort of like how nothing on the cat walk ever really makes it into retail fashion. he enabled an entire generation to express themselves and acted as a decoy time after time.
Perfectly said
That’s a very nice way of putting it, I’d never looked at it like that
This stage set, the checkerboard, "pieces" being moved by "Lady Love" is perfect. Not to mention the cameo sax treatment. Just a perfect set and perfect song, one of the best of the 1980 Floor Show.

SORROW LYRICS
With your long blonde hair
And your eyes of blue
The only thing I ever got from you
Was sorrow
Sorrow
You acted funny trying
To spend my money
You're out there playing your high class games of sorrow
Sorrow
You never do what you know you oughta
Something tells me
You're a Devil's daughter
Sorrow, sorrow
Ahhhh, ah, ahhhh
I tried to find her
'Cause I can't resist her
(I tried to find her)
I never knew just how much I missed her
Sorrow
Sorrow
With your long blonde hair and your eyes of blue
The only thing I ever got from you was sorrow
Sorrow
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh
With your long blonde hair
I couldn't sleep last night
