    This was all in fun guys! I even said that Candito is a beast at deadlifts. This was to be entertaining for you guys and to PUSH Candito and myself. Looks like I have some work to do!

  • @CanditoTrainingHQ
    @CanditoTrainingHQ  11 років тому +6

    Thanks man. It was a great challenge. I literally did nothing after that because I just was laying around for 20 minutes trying to recover. Btw you still have a better pull than me since I'm about 180 morning weight. Keep pulling some serious numbers so we can help push the boundaries of what is considered to be strong for a natural lifter on youtube.

  • @CanditoTrainingHQ
    @CanditoTrainingHQ  11 років тому

    I think people can tell I just edited it to zoom in with no actual jump in terms of time. To be honest I don't really care that much if anyone didn't believe it. This was just for fun, my actual competitions which I train for are IPF/USAPL meets.

    Yes both of you guys are strong. I weigh 180 and have been building my three lifts for about 4 months and can barely pull 260 lol but that's a lot better than the 135 I started at. Thanks for taking time to interact with your subs.

    • @horacecarter2081
      @horacecarter2081 9 років тому

      Monte Matheson im a DL newbie do you mean not dropping the weight going down? educate me

    • @Biglennyjunior
      @Biglennyjunior 9 років тому +24

      Sean Carter haha he means conventional deadlifts. Some people frown upon the use of sumo because they feel like because the range of motion is shorter it is cheating.
      Honestly pick which ever style you prefer :)

    • @montematheson1517
      @montematheson1517 9 років тому +14

      I don't think it's cheating, raggedy doctor. I just think it's lame. Much like shooting free throws granny style. And it's not going to be as effective for MOST (not all) people. It's not beautiful and majestic like conventional.

    • @Biglennyjunior
      @Biglennyjunior 9 років тому +1

      Monte Matheson Haha i know what you mean. I honestly kind of assumed that because many people do.
      I know a lot of people get pissy about this but i feel the same way about benchers with huge archers. Do i think it is cheating? No. Do i consider it as impressive as a bench with a natrual to mild arch? No because you are lifting the weight over a much shorter ROM. Similiar situation with sumo but i don' think it is as bad IMO.
      I train for general strength and i am much stronger in the position so conventional for life.

    • @montematheson1517
      @montematheson1517 9 років тому +1

      Absolutely, and narrow range of motion doesn't always mean you'll do more. For somethings you wanna coil up under. That's how I feel. It just seems everyone is attributing all of Johnnie's power to his switch to sumo, and I really don't see it. I mean yes he's progressed, but so has Garrett Gonzalez, and Johnnie was a pretty powerful conventional lifter.

  • @CanditoTrainingHQ
    @CanditoTrainingHQ  11 років тому +2

    Thank you man, it was a really good challenge. It was actually surprisingly fun, I might get into challenges more in the future. It def seems to be able to bring the youtube community together through some fun good competition.

  • @CanditoTrainingHQ
    @CanditoTrainingHQ  11 років тому +1

    Thank you. Yes I've been experimenting with my stance just a bit narrower. I watched the video of me competing at nationals, where my deadlifts felt great, and realized my stance was at around this narrower width.
    My hips are lower a bit intentionally for this challenge to avoid lower back/hamstring fatigue. But for a max pull, It'd still be relatively high.

  • @jreid100

  • @puddiah11
    @puddiah11 10 років тому +31

    Honestly everyone knows Candito is stronger than Chewning no matter what lift it is, so this wasn't even worth responding too

  • @CanditoTrainingHQ
    @CanditoTrainingHQ  11 років тому

    That's a whole video topic I have planned. The answer depends on a couple factors. But overall I do have leg drive in this, the answer just has to do with the extent of it. As I said, I really cant explain in the comments, the vid will make it clear when I make it.

  • @16drowning
    @16drowning 11 років тому

    I keep coming back to watch this video. This guy's got so much style. Forget about the pulling which is simply phenomenal- the video is just so simple, no hype, no bullshit, and that beat- god damn

  • @RHaniff
    @RHaniff 11 років тому

    You're the template for what every deadlifter should look like. You destroyed this challenge, bro.

  • @CanditoTrainingHQ
    @CanditoTrainingHQ  11 років тому

    More than that. I've already done 500 x 6 for 2 consecutive sets after a 3 x 6 squat workout with 440. That was also a while ago too, so I'd probably pull about 525 for 6 now. I have never done high reps before, I am guess I'd be able to go over 20 if I gave it another shot or trained for it a bit. But this was just for fun to mix it up.

  • @CanditoTrainingHQ
    @CanditoTrainingHQ  11 років тому +1

    lmao! It is funny because a lot of people are saying it was so easy, but I literally was just laying around for 20 minutes afterwards. I dont know if that is a testament to my ability to hold proper technique or my complete lack of preparation to handle such high reps haha.

  • @CanditoTrainingHQ
    @CanditoTrainingHQ  11 років тому

    UA-cam friend. Maxx is cool. He posted this as a friendly challenge, and he actually compliments me in the original vid. I just edited it to hype it up a bit lol. I wouldn't respond to a troll. He actually is a really strong puller especially considering he's 160 while I'm 180 and has competed so he's earned my respect.

  • @SavSci
    @SavSci 11 років тому +1

    Jonnie, thanks for saving my knees brother lol. I hit 4 plates on DL last week for just a couple reps and my knees were not feeling too great afterwards. I read one of your comments on staying on your heels through the lift and realized I was curling my toes and lifting mostly on the balls of my feet. I stayed on my heels today and I was able to rep out 415 this week easily, no pains! :)

  • @CanditoTrainingHQ
    @CanditoTrainingHQ  11 років тому

    I do not do them, but that is actually because I don't have the equipment necessary. If I had access to bumper plates I would definitely do some cleans for some power training. I wouldn't do them as a primary movement though, just on the side for fun.

  • @ThisDudeIsHungry
    @ThisDudeIsHungry 11 років тому

    Props for being humble, much respect, shows good character and says a lot about an individual. Keep up the good work.

  • @CanditoTrainingHQ
    @CanditoTrainingHQ  11 років тому

    Thank you that is all I could hope to provide!

  • @CanditoTrainingHQ
    @CanditoTrainingHQ  11 років тому

    No honestly when I get focused I don't care about little things like that. Keep in mind I haven't ever done this high of reps so it is going to make it look easy until I just slam into a wall. And I have trained myself to never break form too badly so that's why I didn't grind anymore up.
    I'd say if I wanted 20+ the main thing I'd change is not going to slow on the negatives at the beginning. It definitely started to feel much easier the quicker I was letting the weight fall.

    See my video "how to avoid overtraining". If you are just mentally burnt out, switch rep ranges, usually moving higher to avoid CNS burnout as well, but keep intensity high. However, if both mental and physical (joint pain), then deload is needed.

    johnny, you are a win in and of itself. beastmode right there.

  • @CanditoTrainingHQ
    @CanditoTrainingHQ  11 років тому

    No, if you only have 2 workouts a week just do this. One leg workout, 3 sets, 6 reps each set on squats. Then 2 x 6 for deadlift. Next day, upper. 3x6 for bench. Other upper body exercises just work up to a peak set of 8.
    I'll actually have a linear program based on 2 heavy workouts, and 2 light ones. And what I just wrote is the general outline for the 2 heavy days.

    I think when people say in the fitness community, they just mean of people who post videos regularly discussing a variety of topics. So guys like the Hodgetwins, Chris Jones, Elliott Hulse, Ogus, Brandon Campbell, Omar, ect. Rather than strictly strength athletes who only post lifts like Clarence.
    At least that's how I've always seen it. Clarence is definitely an awesome athlete.

  • @CanditoTrainingHQ
    @CanditoTrainingHQ  11 років тому

    No absolutely not. Olympic lifting has no degenerative effects if properly performed. It is just not a max strength movement. So unless you are an olympic lifter, odds are you are going to want a heavier more basic movement to be the main focus.
    If you improve your squat, your clean will improve. The other way is not always true. Always prioritize what has the most carryover if gen strength/athleticism is the goal.

    Pete Rubish is an absolute monster, but this challenge was from Maxx. You could go on Pete's videos and say Magnusson could pull more. It is just pointless unless the person is claiming they are the strongest ever.
    In terms of absolute strength, height plays little to no role. Actually more record holders regardless of wt class at above 6 ft than under (ex Brad Gillingham). It only helps to be shorter when considering bodyweight/relative strength.

    The last vid deadlift with perfect form is going to be the best full video on it. The other smaller details will always be in separate videos. I already say to start squeezing the glutes from the beginning in that vid. But I can't go over every possible little mistake in one video. It would be far too long and hard to find the important details.

    nevermind I read some of your comments on your deadlift tutorial vid and it made a lot of sense. You mentioned "What is likely happening is that the bar is too close to your body relative to your stance. So simply try starting with the bar slightly more forward" . Could you make a video explaining why many people push the idea of bars touching/scraping the shins? Thanks a lot!
