    Some constructive criticism, if i may: The music takes away from the infomercial content in the video, and it would be easier to understand and take in if you outline some of the keywords, kind of like how Omar Isuf does with his videos, check em' out. Great content and i love the articles on your site.

    This was the same type of story of how I am good at deadlifts. I used to at 8 years old go to SEARS with my family and pick up 2 50 pound dumbbells with each hand. I thought I was strong lol. When I first entered the high school weight room I deadlifted 300 weighing 150 as a 14 year old freshman and failed 315 after. Then 3 years later I started lifting for real. I went from a 365 to 585 deadlift in about 11 months. I made the most gains when I deadlifted 5 days a week for 3 months going from a 475 to a 585 pound deadlift. The grease the groove is the best way like you said. To master a lift you must practice it multiple times.

      Its a pun. Its supposed to sound like "string theory" which is a theoretical framework used in particle physics, but his website is "strengtheory" which combines the two words "strength" and "theory" so it becomes a portmanteau playing off of the phonetics of "string theory." Its also a double meaning vis a vis his channel being the framework for how to heavy weights.
      Do you even pun, bro?

    I can't wait for teh high frequency book. Every time you do something big (ie book like that or large article) it seems to be right along the lines of what I'm needing in terms of guidance for training.
    And as weird as it is, you're one of the few people that has the ability to skew my opinion on training.

    Useful feedback. Deadlift is my 'weakest' pull having done deadlifts once a week for about a year going from 185 to 285. Meanwhile squat is now 285 and bench is 190. Gotta learn to commit any maybe more focused posterior chain work.

    It's amazing how strong kids with an active lifestyle can be, sadly too few of them these days.

    • @sergiotl7378
      @sergiotl7378 9 років тому +3

      Jim Giant This is also a cultural issue. In the US and other countries there's the healthy tradition to lift weights in high school and college. Here in Spain the heaviest thing I lifted when I was in high school was a football. Sad but true.

    • @JimGiant
      @JimGiant 9 років тому +13

      Sergio TL I live in the UK. when I was in school parents/teachers were quite anti-lifting. They had no problem with kids doing pressups and pullups or throwing each other on to a dojo floor at 70mph but they seemed to think that lifting an empty bar is magically going to stunt kids growth or injure them.

    • @sergiotl7378
      @sergiotl7378 9 років тому +4

      Jim Giant Yeah man, when I was a teen it was common knowledge that you would be a midget if you were to lift weights.

    • @scrumpoxjnr
      @scrumpoxjnr 9 років тому +7

      +Jim Giant So much truth here. For reasons unknown to me British people are more than comfortable with kids doing push ups and pull ups, but are convinced that as soon as a child picks up weights that's it, they're never gonna grow above 5'2 and they've ruined their spine. lol. As for the active kids thing - one of my best friends (who had a very active lifestyle throughout his teens, did farm work, played rugby and so did some push ups etc but no weights) first time he ever did a deadlift, aged 17, managed to pull 200kg, which was pretty incredible. Since then he's been fucked over with an ankle injury from playing rugby and barely been able to squat or deadlift, but we've both just turned 19 now and he's up to 135kg on bench press. I've been lifting weights a lot longer than him and my PB is only 120kg on bench. Genetics and an active childhood can work wonders.

      It's a cultural issue too. Here in Spain there's a great tradition of playing football at school, but none of strength training.

    Deadlift feels pretty unnatural for me, when I first started lifting I had way too much trouble getting into the proper position due to poor mobility. And later on I inflamed my hip flexor (non lifting related) which is now like 95% recovered but still makes it hard for me to keep the back straight once the weights get heavy. Do you have any tips on how to strengthen the hip flexors?

  • @davidsirmons

    Attention to form, consistency, only maxing out every 2nd or 3rd week, and mixing up sets of 10 and 5 in weeks between maxouts. Oh, and actually generating 500lbs of force.
