Shooting Feral Pigs & Foxes || Pulsar Thermion 2 LRF XP50 Pro Thermal Scope || 308 Winchester Rifle

- This shooting trip I'm out hunting invasive feral pigs and foxes on private property. I've got the ATV Quadbike and my mate Rodney from RJM Hunting Australia. Lets go shoot some pigs !!!
There's plenty of action packed killshot footage video with the thermal scope !!!
These feral invasive animals don't stand much of a sporting chance with this type of pest control / shooting / night hunting. But that's the idea......... Critters on the deck and not killing native animals and damaging agriculture is the aim of the game !!!
I'm shooting the following rifle in this video:
* 308 Winchester - Ruger American Predator 18". Fitted into a MDT Gen 2 LSS chassis and running reloads with 150 grain Hornady SST projectiles. My thermal scope is the new Pulsar Thermion 2 LRF XP50 Pro.
Call to action - If you would like to see the continuation of UA-cam channels like mine or others. PLEASE consider joining Patreon for further support.

Great work as usual Nathan, congrats to both of you 👏👏👍🏻

The image through that pulsar is amazing!! Definitely following your channel. Love the night shooting the thermal optics!
Great stuff mate. There's a heap of this type of shooting if you dig around. It's what I do 😁
Great to see you back. Keep the videos coming.
"Pig-mist" Down Under...I dig it. Nice work with the shootin irons fellers.
Thanks mate
Brilliant, loved the one that got hit by the AGM-88 HARM up the jaxie!!! cheers from Ireland.
Thank David 👌
Nice work as always fella, good to see the new scope getting a workout!
Cheers Mark 👊
Well done Nathan. Your usual humane feral control. Keep up the good work making up for us that don't have the ability to do anything like this.
Cheers Michael 👌
I really enjoy this shooting with the aid of the Thermal scope and some accurate shots too, of course.
I also enjoyed that 'pulled pork' shot there at around the 2:00 mark. Geez who didn't!
Made a bloody mess 🤫
Absolutely splendid work there Nathan. Had quite a few chuckles.😂👍
That's the ticket mate 👌. Glad you enjoyed it.
Always great to see you culling pigs mate !!!! The .308 is a magic calibre for that job !!!!
Thanks Paul
The Kennedy shot... pink mist... nicely done
Thanks mate
Fantastic follow-up shots.
The way the ferals are breeding, you guys will never be out of a job.
Another excellent video Nathan, well done mate.
Geoff.
Appreciate it as always Geoff
Top notch footage both in quality and content. Love seeing ferals getting wiped out, keep up the good work 👍
Appreciate it mate 👌
@@MyChannel-b5f Sat down with dinner, thx for the tact
Its amazing to think how many of the buggers are roaming the bush, well done in trimming the number...
There's a huge amount around ATM unfortunately
Great shooting mate.good old miss Piggy turns to bacon.
And Peter rabbit is no longer hahaha.
Cheers mate 👌
First time commenting love the channel fellas. Me, Australia and our farmers thank you for you're service👍
Really appreciate the effort and comment Mick 👍
He seems to make due though..yes?
Magnificent mate, exploding pig was amazing. Another professional shoot!
Thanks Russ
Nice follow up shot on the fox. Your videos got Pulsar another sale.
Great to hear you like the shooting mate, and enjoy 👌
Good on ya Nathan. So many pigs, so little time. 👍
Yeah they are busy nights that's for sure.
Great shot mate that went everywhere a bit unexpected but Well done they got smoked 🇦🇺👍👍👍👍
Thanks Steve
"Pest control" is my favorite sport, with which you can get rid of pests, and you can also shoot for fun! 👍 By the way, the thermal scope is excellent -- it's so clear, and reticle is so fine (it's $6,000!😲👍).
Thanks mate 👌
Awesome work guys
Thanks Craig
Outstanding effort as always mate!
Cheers mate 🍻
It was interesting video. Thanks!
Nice Guys great shooting those Thermals are just unbelievable.
Thanks for sharing your hunting videos great to watch them & not be freezing cold going ( what the hell am I doing here ) thanks again
Stay safe love your gear awesome
Thanks Cheers
Do you guys wish you could have semi-autos like AR-15’s/AR-10’s or are you content with the bolt guns?
I'd run a semi given more freedom of choice.
The L96A1 is an Accuracy International-produced sniper rifle and currently the sniper rifle of choice for the British Army.
This was my personal weapon of choice in the British military over a 20 years service period
I still have this rifle in my collection which is chambered to fire the 7.62x51mm NATO, plus I have my grandfather's Lee-Enfield Mark 1 chambered in .303 second world war rifle.
My side arm of choice is the The SIG Sauer P226 chambered in 9mm get more rounds in the mag.
By the way great lead on the targets...awesome shooting mate ⚔️🍻⚔️
Nice hunt mate, Thank you for sharing!
Cheers mate
How fun are those thermal optics on the .308!!! I havnt got to take down any pigs yet, but damm do they turn bunnies and foxes inside out like a treat!
Big time 💥
I see you use the MDT Chassis made in Canada I love mine... great video...
Cheers 🍻
Some great shots love the thermal
Cheers Anton
Nice
Thanks
Old googly eyes that's gold mate.
But seriously well done great content good work.
Thanks David
Definitely in the books to buy this scope
Nice work guys,I think you can safely say you blew the s**t out that pig.The imaging with the thermal is as a clear as day light certainly a great bit of kit.thanks for the vid.
Appreciate it Paul 🍻
What 308 ammunition you using?
Reloads mate with 150gr SST's
Nice work, Nathan.
Thanks Paul
Some very good shooting, I said it, in a comment on Robs deer shooting video that you pair did, that you should do more of these, and keep some of the Aussie banter in it, can't wait for the next one, keep up the good work 😎
Thanks John. I'm working on my footage from the deer hunting now 🤞
Well done getting the Pulsar deal Woody,😜
Loved it bro 👌 top shooting
Was a bit of a shit show shooting on this trip. Big days chasing deer then we did this stuff at night. Burned the wick at both ends for sure.
@@MyChannel-b5f haha gotta do what you gotta do bro 👌
Great video mate 🤙🏼
Cheers mate
Good shooting and content as always.
Cheers mate 🍻
Great shooting both of you.
Thanks Keith
Have you ever done a clip on your tripod set up? I'm interested in getting one to assist shooting where the bipod is too low
Yes I have if you dig back. This I is just a cheap Innorel but I'd recommend something better if you get a CF tripod. Mine hasn't held up very well at all.
What is the tripod and interface brand name you are using? Are they costly ? Do you think it increases your follow up hit rate??
It's an Innorel RT80C. I did a UA-cam review and walk through on it all last year if you have a dig.
Would you use any other bolt action 308 over this ruger predator in an ideal world? I might buy the exact same for wild boar night shooting, (might be some rain) but keeping the standard stock..
Anything in 308 will work fine. This is only a budget rifle but in the chassis it is extremely accurate. Anything cerekoted is ideal in wet weather IMO.
2:00 ish, always wondered how they made pork mince😂😂
Just like that 😜
Top shooting…!👍
Cheers 🍻
Nice shooting Tex & Rex. 😜 Is there an issue with the audio on the new Thermal Scope?
The audio I believe will be refined with a firmware update. It's a bit sensitive ATM.
@@MyChannel-b5f , cool, it just sounded a bit muffled as you were working the bolt. 😀👍
Ripper shooting.
Good shooting!
Cheers 🥂
I have just got back from a shoot a couple of day ago did a lot of walking on the first afternoon to no joy second day was a total nightmare riding in front seat rifle in back seat come round a corner an a deer jumps up an I jump out of 4x4 grab rifle an the ammo was sitting on the floor 😅 so that was a lesson well learnt .did get a hine that evening so made up for it .keep up the good work mate 👍
Thanks Phil. We live and learn for sure 👌
@@MyChannel-b5f one day you should come to New Zealand we can still shoot with semiautomatic .22 for how long is going to be the question 🤔
I've been to NZ 6 times. Awesome over there 👌
Haha dayummmm, well done
Thanks Sam
Please tell me what you blow off the last shot that looked like it exploded 😂
Sorry can't remember 🤦♂️
Do you prefer to take the boars out, are they more destructive?
No, we will target large sows on pest control programs as it disorientates the mob periodically. We can potentially get higher numbers.
What is the farthest that you could comfortably shoot with the xp50 scope?
Many factors in that. I know people shooting foxes out near 400m, but personally I'm a sub 200m thermal shooter. It's passive, just move closer 😊
What chassis is your Ruger American Predator in ?
Full details in the video description 👍
what kind of range are you reaching out to with your thermal gear on your 308?
I'll make the odd 200-250m shot. But generally it's all 25 - 150m stuff, that's the benefit of thermal and passive shooting. You just walk closer !!!
@@MyChannel-b5f Thanks Nathan... another great video.
Awesome brother! Simply outstanding videos here.
Appreciate it mate 👌
Providing a natural service, where pig meat becomes fox food. :)
Thanks Terry
Luvvit!💪💪💪👍
Great to hear
wish i was there
I hear you use the term "mob" in Australia for a group of pigs. In the states the term is "sounder."
I don't get too technical in the field, but yes sounder is the correct term
You’ve been running the mdt lss chassis for a while now. What do you think of that chassis system?
It works would be the simple answer. Makes my 308win about the right mass to not kick too much and the ergonomics are excellent.
@@MyChannel-b5f I recently purchased one for my Ruger scout and was curious. Still have not installed because I’m timing out my other parts such as butt stock and grip. Gotta time out my gun parts purchases or I’ll get the death look from my wife. That look can kill you deader than those pigs. Still recovering from the chassis order.
😂 Can definitely relate 😂
Hi Nathan do you have any tips on how you zero your devices
I seem to struggle anything past 50
Just bang on, hole in hole POI at 50m. Run core flute with reflective tape on a black target. Key is to angle the target up at about 20 degrees.
Amazing shots mate. Gotta love hitting the pics on the run. To bad you can't use a semi-auto rifle like we use here in US. Shooting as good as you do the population would be down a bit more. LOL
Would love to chew into them with semi auto's
@@MyChannel-b5f One time luck. 9 pigs with a 10 round clip sem-auto. Close range. 30feet. What mayhem but fun. Peace mate.
I've been playing with thermal for six months now. I don't know how you get such clear images. Mine are just heat blobs for anything smaller than a kangaroo.
What thermals are you using?
@@MyChannel-b5f It's a Pulsar Thermion 2 XQ38. I understand the resolution is lower, but it just seems such a huge leap in image quality between what I see and what the videos show.
Yeah the XP50 series with the 25mk sensor and F1.0 lens does make a big gain in image quality.
@@MyChannel-b5f This is one of those moments of regret. But... the 5k tag was already a huge investment for me. Anyway, I'm probably going back to nightvision with the new Digex C50. That worked a treat.
Is there a reason you don't run silencers on your rifles?
They are extremely restricted in Australia. I have just got my permit. Next few videos you'll see that change for contract shooting.
@@MyChannel-b5f I thought that must be the case. You will really enjoy the benefit.
My family enjoy watching your videos.
@@kurtgrunewald9808 thanks mate
You know you are really making me want to come visit and hunt for a week. How are the non-resident tags?
😂 That's the thing that always amuses me with the American impression on hunting. We have NO TAGS on any of these species. She's open season mate 🤟🤟🤟
@@MyChannel-b5f 😂😂😂 definitely 2 different cultures!
@@TheMichiganShow more information
@@gregstephens361 what do ya mean?
@@MyChannel-b5f Many States in the US don't have tags or seasons with varmints either. Open year round. No limits.
Loved the video, it's a bit of a downer that the "do gooders" won't let you show the after effects. I mean it's not like you're shooting someone's pet these thing are full on feral. Anyway keep up the good work Champ. Cheers
Thanks Michael 👌
Do you carry multiple mags or does that rifle carry enough rounds
I carry 2x 10 round mags. Normally 10 rounds and the pigs are long outta range with a bolt action.
@@MyChannel-b5f yeah I would think after 20 shots were fired you would have to call in satellite guided weapons
What bullets have you found to work best in the .308, for this type of shooting?
I like my 150gr pills in the 308Win. Have tried lighter 130-135gr and don't rate them on pigs unless they are standing broadside nicely (which is rare)
Pigs do fly
😂 Some can
Great stuff. Shame UA-cam so soft.
Is what it is. It's their sandpit 😞
Great shooting guys. I think you don't have coyotes in Australia, was that a fox at 4:16 ? Thanks.
Yes mate that was a fox. No coyotes here but we hunt wild dogs 😳
@@MyChannel-b5f I see. I just realize that foxes In Australia are invasive species as well.
It looks like you have some 7.2 million red foxes, so happy hunting.
Big issue with cats and foxes. Always happy hunting them 😁
Yippee - and just before this I got an advert telling me to vote for the Greens - isn't that fun?
Pfff 😂
@@MyChannel-b5f Just wanted you to know so you could thank them for sponsoring your videos, and getting ZERO return from me. Nett loss for them. 😁
Good on you guys knock on the head, Up here in Queensland the feral pigs are going crazy hopefully soon will go out and knock a few on the head Cliff from Logan city Queensland Australia
Into em mate. Numbers are exploding everywhere
You shooting with silencers?
No, my permit is still pending 😩
How’s the bunged up ankle going?
Yeah it's on the mend now the bruising has settled. Was a bad gig to happen the day prior to this trip 😞
@@MyChannel-b5f nothing some kfc and slaying pigs won’t help fix 👍🏻
Great shooting man. A Semi-auto rifle will help you to get more
Yes it would. But they are hugely restricted / almost impossible to get in Australia 😩
The fox, not enough difficulty on the first shot
Bacon, Bacon
Definitely COVID! 😁
Are suppressors allowed in Australia?
If so why not use them
They are if you can gain the permit as a professional shooter like I have recently done. But they are highly controlled.
@@MyChannel-b5f thanks for the reply. Would be cool to see similar footage using a suppressor. I wonder how one can get into this in WA. I'm keen to give this sport/hobby or whatever you wanna call it a go. If you have some info please let me know
You won't get one in WA mate. Even as a business operator 😩
👍👍👍👊😎
some bad shooting by your standards lol but great shooting by mine your 1 hell of a great shooter
Thanks Darran. Always room for improvement and I made a few mistakes on this trip.
.308 vs a rabbit. Not much left to pick up eh?
They had very little damage with a clean headshot. Running 150gr SST's they tend to just zip through small game.
👍👍👍👍🇦🇺
There are deer in australia
Yes, and quite a lot of them.
Anyone want to buy my kidney so I can buy this scope? Lol
I'm all out myself 😩
Ok so I’m sorry Woody but in the spirt of Aussie life….. I understand you’re now a rep for Pulsar…. Does that mean you can no longer associate with regular folk like me and Rod. Rod strikes me as a normal run of the mill bloke that I could enjoy a cold Carlton draught with …. Whereas I gather Nathan has turned into a soft latte drinking, lefty that can only be seen with the high end of town….. what happened to the Nathan we used to know 😄
Seriously all the hard work both you and Rod put in to promoting feral control in a professional manner, as I’ve said before I hope you make a million from it.
I don't think anyone will ever get rich from this gig. But I'm enjoying the passion and sharing what I can 👌
Love ya vids mate but I am a bit dumb I forget things but didn’t ya channel be called something else
Long long time ago but that was several years ago.
@@MyChannel-b5f Righty oh thx for replying bra
are Foxes really a threat to you or place? trigger happy gangsta
Please have a Google on foxes and feral cats in Australia. They are a huge threat to our native animals. Leaving foxes and cats to continue killing our defenseless natives is not an option.
Why are there just so many feral pigs, have they just took off expotentially? 🤔
The simple answer - yes they have. Drought broke, bumper crop seasons and a huge amount of ground cover. Boom, ferals explode in numbers.
@@MyChannel-b5f All I can think of is high ground with IR & binoculars. ATB
Too much grass mate and I'm hunting huge areas. All sounds like a good idea until your on the ground.
@@MyChannel-b5f Would it be worth the time and effort to bait and have large traps? concentrate the numbers in a smaller area? Be like shooting fish in a barrel though.
They just have too much feed mate. Traps work, but not next to thousands of acres of smelly sourgum crops.
This was no ethical hunting. That was just killing.
Exactly 👌 What's your point? This is feral pest control.
"Googly eyes. Not feeling too well". I wonder what could possibly be wrong with it?? Covid perhaps??? 😂😂
Bigger problems than Covid me thinks 😂
hm an acute case of lead poisoning maybe
Kids are always trying to change terms.... "Boogely eyes".
The new thermal imagery is unreal, the definition is so clear. Love your videos keep it up!
That's the plan mate 👊
Imagine the destruction stopped of farmers properties if Australia had semi automatic pest control firearms.
It's very sportsman like keeping it old school with that bolt action.
I'd run a semi if possible in Australia but they are hugely restricted to own 😩
@@MyChannel-b5f 💯 PERCENT right 👍
7purse We use To have semi autos ,still couldn’t keep up with the pigs , currently about 18 million according to government figures
Great work Hollywood and congrats on the Pro-Staff partnership 🤙🏻 🔫
Appreciate it mate 👌
