- This contracted shooting trip we are out hunting invasive species - feral pigs and the odd fox. Things get a little wild, and I'm running my mates 300AAC (Blackout) rifle hard fitted with the new new Pulsar Thermion 2 LRF XL50 1024x768 HD thermal. There's plenty of action packed footage in this video in both daylight and after the sun sets. If you're seeking a video with bulk shooting footage and no bullshit (maybe a little), this is your happy place !!!
Access into this area is with my mates Polaris XP1000 side by side ATV buggy. This machine is purpose built for his contract shooting business and works amazingly well in the terrain type for pest control. Big thanks to him, my unnamed mate "Bucket" for the call out seeking assistance on this control program. Yes this is "work" and we are out shooting from late afternoon nearly right through till dawn. But hot damn, we do have some fun in the process.
We are not shooting pigs for human consumption on this trip, it is purely pest control of invasive species in Australia. These uncontrolled animals are an environmental and agricultural menace, often carrying bacterial and diseases like brucellosis. Pigs are left where they lay as carrion, nothing generally lasts more than a week in the Aussie bush before it's just a few scattered remains.
I am a vertebrate pest control - contract shooter in NSW. For those wondering about the equipment being used, both my mate and I hold the necessary permits and licences under contract in NSW to do so. If seeking information regarding that, please check the FAR webpage for details. All shooting is performed on privately owned farms, with exclusive permission granted in writing for paid services.
Call to action - If you would like to see the continuation of UA-cam channels like mine or others. PLEASE consider joining Patreon for further support.

Tool of choice was chambered in 300AAC. I was using Winchester 150gr Deer Season XP but I was hugely underwhelmed with the performance on pigs. Before anyone flames the cartridge choice, I've seen this in action using faster 110gr ammo and it's a whole other tool with projectiles which expand acceptably on game.
My thermal scope is a Pulsar Thermion 2 LRF XL50 and for the scanner I'm a Pulsar Merger LRF XL50 which is also 1024x756 resolution !!! Daylight scope, I'm using a ZeroTech Vengeance 1-6x24mm SFP RAR, must say I really liked the reticle.

Nate , As a hunter myself , I am always amazed at the accuracy of your running lead shots at so many distances . Good on ya man keep shootin !
Thanks 👍
What's the furthest distance you've ever taken down prey? I really admire hunters like Nate and you
So used to seeing one-shot drops with your 308. Interesting how projectile speed, distance, and too hard a round changes everything. Great shoot.
Yeah same, was very different indeed. Fortunately I could get back on target quickly.
Really enjoying your videos and thanks for protecting the agriculture
Thanks for watching!
You are an incredible marksman and conservationist. Thank you for looking after your piece of the world, and for such incredible footage of you and your mates doing what needs to be done. Inspirational mate.
p.s. watching your channel is like Xmas everyday.
Appreciate it mate 👌
Couldn't have it better myself.
I asked you delivered!! Damn that was customer service at its finest!! Rack and stack, baby!!
Crying shame you have to justify the work you do...🤔😎🇦🇺👌
I've been stung lately with a few demonetised videos, just trying to stem that with context for the reviewers 🤦♂️
Feral pigs are not typically considered a barrier species. Barrier species are those that, through their presence or absence, significantly affect the structure and function of ecosystems. They can act as barriers to the spread of invasive species, facilitate the spread of native species, or directly impact ecosystem processes.
Feral pigs, on the other hand, are known to have destructive impacts on ecosystems. They are considered an invasive species in many regions and can cause significant damage to native plants, animals, and ecosystems. Their rooting and foraging behaviors can lead to soil erosion, damage to vegetation, and disruption of native habitats.
While feral pigs can certainly alter ecosystems, their impact is generally considered detrimental rather than beneficial or neutral. Therefore, they are not typically classified as a barrier species.
I'm saying this as I hope others can learn that the work you do, is actually protecting ecosystems. Keep up the good work.
Thank you Nathan for another fine demonstration of pest eradication.
Thumbs up before the start of the video because you always deliver the goods!
👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Appreciate it mate 👌
Really appreciate the difference in the lead times for the different rounds. You did super well to make the adjustment that quickly. Great vid. Keep them coming!
Much appreciated!
Impressive aim, and leading, I cant hit a tree from 50 feet ! Helping out the land one slug at a time .
I'd like to thank your patrons too. Skint old bloke - grateful to see this incredible work. Apologies for freeloading. Thanks.
Much appreciated!
Holy crap! You need that 300bo semi in every video!! That was insane!
my fault I looked at film and see that bullets where hitting the mark I love watching your channel keep it up
that just shows what and why you need a semi with better ammo as well
great clip keep them coming
Good job,
Watching you adjust your shooting style to this ammo was a learning experience, thank you sir ❤
Mate love it. And you threw in a somersault too boot You give me a great laugh in the dark. Ta
As someone who doesn't shoot, but absolutely understands why it needs to happen. I really appreciate how you explain what is happening. I was starting to scratch my head with the way the rounds were 'missing' but as you explained they were hitting but not working as intended. I suspect an explanation video is upcoming?
I still get shocked by the sheer volume of feral pigs/deer/ etc that are out there. Do you see many goats out your way as I have heard they're a problem in some area's too
Your comment reminded me of something I read in a book about powerful rifles and what makes them powerful.
In war, jacketed bullets are more likely to pass through personnel and are more likely to wound rather than kill. This isn't for humanitarian reasons, it's because a wounded soldier ties up 3 enemy soldiers vs 1 dead soldier. More efficient use of ammo in war. This was part of the reasoning for militaries' changing from WW2 era 7.62 to 5.56mm - a definite reduction in power.
These pigs would probably die but they don't just stop immediately. As you said this could be an issue with the ammo.
Did a little digging and the projectile was designed for 308. While winchester claims they will still perform down to 1500fps that is well below the velocities these were designed to expand at.
@@ThePaulv12 the reason we use FMJ ammunition isn't this (legendary) "ties up three not one" idea-- it is because the Hague and Geneva conventions banned expanding ammunition as it breeches the principle of "humanity" within the law of armed conflict (LOAC). Intentionally causing more suffering with expanding ammunition isn't sport.
Thanks for all the great content all the best for the new year mate
Same to you!
Absolutely loving your content thank you for sharing with us
Glad you enjoy it!
semi auto would be the way to go for me, love the traditional bolt action for single long shots, but your vid has convinced me of my belief of a quality semi auto in the right calibre is just the job, nice one.
cant have in ozzie
cant have in ozzie
Thanks for another great video, Nathan. Compared to your .308 you will have to convince me further that the Blackout is a suitable calibre for this style of shoot. Keep up the great work.
The calibre will never be a 308Win. But it's suitable so long as you don't expect 200m plus kills. The issue in this instance was the ammo not expanding.
Just jaw-dropping the numbers that are out there mate .... always great to see you getting amongst 'em , even if the 300 was a bit shy on killing power with some !!!
Another outstanding outing and results. Congrats on the Semi !
Thank you very much!
Another excellent production Nathan. Great stuff.
Thanks again!
Great shooting and great commentary and banter once again!
Cheers 🍻
Great content, great marksmanship! I ve found the Sig 120 grn elites do the trick . Copper is king with the 300 BO . None the less thanks for all you do . Happy Holidays .
I'd have loved to run other ammo, it's just hard to source at the current time unfortunately. My mate loves running 110 VMaxs.
Now that’s a decent session on the porkers. Even better to get a few deer. Some nice eating there. Well done Nathan and Bucket. Hope you guys had a great Christmas
*EDGE of the OUTBACK* Hay fellas always a pleasure to see the both of you. Thank-you sir for taking the time to bring us along. GOD Bless.
Our pleasure!
Great shooting as always...hope you're having a great Xmas 😉🎄🎅🎁🍾👊👍
dont blame your new ammo , your the expert Mr KFC Hollywood . Love your vidios keep them coming
You are a Magician with that Rifle 👍🏻
Make me dream, thank you Nathan for sharing such a video ;)
Glad you enjoyed it!
Yes a great outing. Good job done 👍
Thanks 👍
Bloody hell, Nathan, you got a great cricket score in that session. Trust the land owner filled a truck with carcasses for the Salvos to distribute to the poor and needy
If only game meat regulations allowed that.
Another top hunt Nathan. Job well done by you and Mr Bucket cobber.🤠
love your videos mate, keep up the great work.
Thanks, will do!
Some cracking pest control there. Some of those running shots are world class, very tidy and humane..
Cheers 🍺
Great show as always not to sure about the blackout hope you and your family have a great calibre of a new year
Same to you!
Very nice work on the bacon.👍👍
Unreal work mate. You are a fine marksman. Gday from Melbourne!
Thanks 👍
For the 300BO, try the Hornady 110 v-max or the Barnes 120. Both will have much better terminal performance than those Winchester 150s.
Love your vids. Recent subscriber.
Absolutely would have been running 110gr VMaxs given the choice. Unfortunately finding the more mid range weights in Australia, in bulk is really hard ATM. So 150gr Winchester was it 😞
Mate, you have some of the nicest toys, I'm jealous!
Incredible shots my man!
😮 In the USA 🇺🇸 I had one of those blackouts. It didn’t do it for me. Gave it to a gun friend he did go sub and silencer. Your new 6mm is a colorful. Hope to see more. Still 6 BR is good for me. Always a pleasure to get to see your content. Hope 24 will be great for you. Following from the envious arm chair. 😊
Cheers mate, we shall all find out together 🤔
I also got rid of mine after 20 yd headshots didn’t out them down. Went back to my .300 WSM and never looked back
Love the video 💪
Glad you enjoyed!
Awesome as always! Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year to you and your family bro.
Thanks! You too!
Enjoyed the video 🙂👍
Awesome, thank you!
Great video as always Nathan 👌👌👌
Thanks 👍
Commented before end of vid well done man👍
gotta love the auto great video and have a great christmas M8
Thanks, you too!
Great night out.
just great work as always
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice bit of diced bacon there Nath! Top job
Thanks 👍
Fantastic yet again! I’d love a rundown of your vehicle scanner setup on the Polaris because that laser looks like a fantastic idea and just what me and my mate need to avoid the constant “I can’t see him, where are you looking?” convos
Gotta say, Love ya work
I remember when the 300 Blackout was called the 300 Whisper. Back before, it was tweeked to fit in AR magazines and magically renamed the Blackout, as if it was something new.
I used the Whisper in a suppressed, short action HOWA 1500. Pigs & deer did not keep going when whacked by 220gr hollow points. 🤠
Yeah the subsonic ammo is much better suited to projectiles which expand.
merry xmass mate may your aim be true
thanks for the hrs of videos this year
Happy holidays!
Good stuff.
Glad you enjoyed it
so many opportunity's to slip the fence wire, however it seams that you managed to miss em all :D
Nice clip, and shooting
Cheers
Jim
I did hit a wire when sighting it in 😂
Well done lads
Need More of these Semi Auto Vids!!! would be great seing you rip through some of those mega sized sounders with one of those!!! love your work mate, keep it all up.
Noted!
Great work shagger.
Kentucky flied chicken just right for the occasion.
Nice work Nathan, lots of piggy pancakes taking a dirt sample. I find 115g in the 300 works great for me, stay safe over the break.
Absolutely would have been running 110gr VMaxs given the choice. Unfortunately finding the more mid range weights in Australia, in bulk is really hard ATM. So 150gr Winchester was it 😞
Absolutely brilliant video
Glad you enjoyed it
Hey mate awsome video. great editing, so much effort goes into these vids.
Thanks a ton!
Should be getting 15-1600 FPS out of that factory cartridge. Used to load a bunch of these. I have went to the 300 hammer now. The 300 blackout lacks in range and power to expand bullets unless you use a 110 or a 125 grain bullet. Still a great video. Keep up the good work.
Absolutely would have been running 110gr VMaxs given the choice. Unfortunately finding the more mid range weights in Australia, in bulk is really hard ATM. So 150gr Winchester was it 😞
Love my little 300 Blackout. Little HOWA Mini Action in a cheap little chassis. It seems to like the 125’s to 150’s. Haven’t had a chance to stretch it out yet; just walking around close stuff, but it’s absolutely perfect for that. Its physical size makes it a breeze to carry around. Still a work in progress, but I think we’ll get there. Anyway, good vid Mate. Hope you had a good Christmas and have x Hsppy New Year. Cheers.
Definitely stick with the sub 125gr ammo if possible 👌
@@EDGEoftheOUTBACKAgreed. All of the heavier stuff is designed for much faster rounds than the 300BO and so they fail to expand properly in my experience. 110-125grn are the G O for the Blackout.
Loving the semi-auto AR15 action. Congrats on getting access to that.
Thanks!
Well done Mate! Keep the videos coming.... Excellent work s always.
Thanks 👍
Awesome video..!!
Glad you enjoyed it
Love your work, lots of stuff we don’t have in tassie.
Damm its crazy how much more effective you are with the semi! some awesome shots there!
Nice to not loose the time requiring a sight picture.
Very nice work, as always. I'd like to see you do all this and more, but with a .300 Ham'r.
Great stuff, mate! All the best for 2024.
Thanks! You too!
YAY the Dirty bird is back love it lol
Yeah love or hate it 300 blk is a niche all it's own. Don't care for it myself but to each their own. Happy Festivus & merry new year! Congrats on your autoloader license btw, funny how I'd asked about that not 2-3 weeks ago 😂
Everyone's been chasing that answer. If only people understood how hard it is to get.
As a new subscriber I love what your doing Nate keep up the great work .... Your an awesome shooter bud😊
Cheers
That Winchester ammo is the absolute worst ammo ever. It goes right through deer like a target round it doesn't even open up. I love my 300 for deer hunting but I have a friend that loads my ammo and it's great. Here is the southern US we don't have to shoot the distance you have to. Great video i love your channel 👍
Cheers mate 👍
Please post more videos
Gave em a fair touch up mate👌👌. Nice work👍
And a big grin most of the time
@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK I bet 😂🤣😉
Huge count on this contract Nathan, no bonus cats unfortunately, but another great video.
Nice work lads. Happy new year Nathan and family 😊
Same to you!
Another great video nathan.keep up the good work .
Thanks, will do!
Top stuff mate, a semi, someone has gone through the ringer to sort that, good onya mate cheers Yogi ✌️🤙
Huge process indeed
Love your videos - Greetings from South Africa
Cheers mate 👍
Every time I watch your videos i go out shooting, unfortunately I'm running out of rabbits. Great show you guys.
Glad to hear it motivates you
Spoilt for choice 👍good stuff
I love how you call them 'customers'. I used to call the crims that registered with the police as 'customers'!
Merry Christmas to you and your family mate stay safe
Same to you!
Well done bruv, & merry xmas to you!!💪💪🍺🍺👍
Same to you!
I had a very similar experience with those projectiles but in 7.62x39. They behaved just like a FMJ.
Whatever the reason was, IDK. I used the remainder of the box for plinking and not hunting.
It's nice seeing you using a SA.
Yeah would be similar speeds in that cartridge too. I'm getting a fair few comments of people really not liking them 😞
If you had no issues with shoulders collapsing in the Blackout causing light strikes then that's half the battle in an AR. Top job as usual 👍
Didn't know that was a thing, have to read up on it
Love your videos mate. It would be the most epic job. I went hunting with my dad a bit when I was younger out Cobar way. What I would give for a time machine to do one of those trips over again and be out bush and crusing around. Keep up the amazing work 👍
Cheers, will do
I think you’ll be back to this property with the amount pregnant sows that you are seeing 👍🏻🐗
Absolutely 👌
Hi guys, Merry Christmas. Hope you had a wonderful day. Good Onya knocking few want to head keep up the good work Cliff from Logan City Queensland Australia 🇦🇺👨🏻🦽
