Why did my power steering go out when pressed up against a curb. I had to force steering into the curb and then after that no more power steering. I already changed out the pump.

Could a pipe leak result in a leak from steering shaft inside the cab?
I had a slow leak that I just topped off for over a year, only going through 1 quart the whole time. Then decided I should get it fixed. My mechanic said it was a very small leak in the rack & pinion and started going about replacing it. But they said there was rust and they were worried about removing it and not being able to put it back. So decided to put stop leak in it and refill. A week or so later I had to add a whole quart. I got a different brand stop leak which seemed to work for about a month. Then I drove it and when I exited the freeway near my destination it was difficult to steer. It had leaked out again, this time some of it inside the cabin.

@kevinhancock4064 after I stated that, coincidentally I ran into a Scotty Kilmer (1 of best Master Mechanics) video, stating the main issue with them is when faced with moisture, and that is the reason Toyota stuck with hydraulic power steering in their trucks because it lasts longer.

      mine does too.
Solution: keep the level topped off, if the noise goes away. It is a leak in the hose. If the noise persists with fluid, bad pump.

They say to do both CV axles at once because the other one will typically go bad right after. But typically they will make a telltale clicking noise when making sharp turns if they're bad. I'd check out suspension components. Seems like maybe something is allowing play in the wheel. Jack the car up, wiggle the wheel around and feel for play. There are videos on how to do this

I had this problem turns out my steering rack had 1 bolt out of 4 holding it up. When I would hit grooves on the freeway my steering wheel would go left to right as it pleased. I also replaced the main control arm bushings at the same time, but I'm pretty sure the tie rod play was what was causing this.

Sounds like your outer tie rod ball joint has likely failed, It happened to my vehicle. This is a part that is relatively easy to replace yourself. Look for UA-cam videos on this topic for diy or bring to a professional mechanic. Important part to replace to avoid an accident and damage to front suspension. Vehicle must be aligned after installation- good luck!
